Sidwell now out until Christmas - We need to have a sticky thread on who is out and for how long as the list is getting longer !
So we just need updates on :-
Sidwell
NRC
Heskey
Delph
Carew
Gabby
Petrov
-
Normally I wouldn't care, but bloody hell!
-
Bannan is at least twice the player.
Does this mean our only decent fit CMs are Bannan and Clark?
-

Yes, although it should read "our only fit CM and converted centre back...".
Next it will be Bannan to get his leg caught in a mouse trap and be out for 3 months.
-
no loss...
he is shit...
-
He's not shit as such, just does not contribute anything, it's like playing with 10 men.

Every cloud.......etc, etc.

So he's shit then.

Don't be surprised to see Gabby on the bench tomorrow.

On his own.

Is Ireland not a CM?

Yes. Mind was playing tricks as I had him in Ashley Young's position as second striker.
-
Ireland is a CM, yes.
I suppose Hogg will be in the squad then. Or maybe Daniel Johnson.
-
Don't be surprised to see Gabby on the bench tomorrow.
As predicted here. :)
Gabby on the bench according to WM! At last a glimmer of good injury news.

I've heard Benson and Hedges will be on the bench tomorrow.

John Robertson back on the coaching staff?

His performances for us so far would suggest not.

I just hope we're not rushing him back too soon because of all the other injuries. We need Gabby fully fit, not 80% fit and then doing himself more damage by playing and being out for longer.
-
When are these injuries going to stop at this rate we will have to bring our boots on wednesday.
-
Is there a sniper at Bodymoor Heath? In all honesty though, whilst I dont wish injury on anybody, in Sidwell's case I just cant bring myself to be bothered.
I think the next step is to play Collins and Clark in midfield with Cuellar and Dunne at centre half.
Thank fuck we have centre halves who can play.
Hogg is a decent enough player with a Hitz like hammer shot on him that could make him popular but I wouldnt be wanting him in the side yet under any other circumstances. The other options are Osbourne and Salifou.
If Osbourne remembered the player he should be he could be useful but he seems a bit of a waster and Salifou is just a bit hopeless.
How we could do with Delph and Gardner right now.
-
No loss, really is wank.
-
OS saying Gabby will be on bench
-
Sidwell really is a terrible footballer, but to be honest, even he is better than nothing.
Although it is a close run thing.
-
For the love of Nixon...has MON pissed on our corner flags or something?
Sidwell can now prepare to move on in January.
-
In people's opinions if G Gardner was fit where would he be in the pecking order? Behind Bannan and Clark and above Hogg, or below Hogg as well, or right in the mix with Bannan and Clark? Are Salifou and Osbourne behind Hogg, Johnson, Gardner etc and if so why are they still here? Also Weiman, if fit is he a better all round bet than Delfouneso or not yet?
-
It does make you think what we do in training !!
-
He is shit but what the fuck is going on!!!?
Whats up with him? Is it groin injury from sex or something? it can't be from playing?
-
OS saying Gabby will be on bench
Really want Gabby fit for Manure. Vidic seems to struggle against him (and anyone with pace).
-
Are Salifou and Osbourne behind Hogg, Johnson, Gardner etc and if so why are they still here?
I guess they must be, they've been nowhere near the first team all season while Johnson and Hogg have both been in recent squads. To be honest, I've got no idea why we didn't release both years ago.
And... how bad must Osbourne have got not to even make the bench with four/five midfield players out injured? What the hell has happened to him? I never saw him as a world-class player in the making but thought at the very least he'd turn into a decent ball-winning midfielder good enough to make some sort of contribution to a squad.
Salifou's just a total mystery to me.
-
Salifou is a mystery to everyone
-
Salifou!!!
Come on down!!
-
It does make you think what we do in training !!
It's because we actually train now, instead of just jog.
-
Don't be surprised to see Gabby on the bench tomorrow.
has gabby had any reserve game time?
The only reason I ask is because before he got injured he looked a stone overweight to me
-
According to OS its a re-accurance of a achillies tendon problem.
-
Does he need some surgery on his ankle ? Has he been playing through some pain ?
-
Yeah, to be fair to Sidwell, you don't want to mess about with an Achilles tendon injury.... if that snaps, that's your season over.
-
NRC knee injury not as bad as first thought.Only expected to bo out for 2-3 weeks.Might make it back for the Blose game with any luck
-
Yeah, to be fair to Sidwell, you don't want to mess about with an Achilles tendon injury.... if that snaps, that's your season over.
His season hasn't started.
-
You know what I mean.
-
You know what I mean.
Yep.
Rumours on Twitter than Delph could be on the bench.
Surely not? Maybe someone is confused with Gabby.
-
Sidwell is no loss at all- I'd far rather one of our reserves or youth team in the side than sidwell- one of the worst players I've seen for us in over 30 yrs of watching villa.
Hopefully he will fuck off in January and never wear a villa shirt again- strong words I know but the guy is a passenger.
-
In fairness, I thought his attitude seemed a bit better in recent games and he was at least doing a good job of getting stuck in. Admittedly it's the least we should expect, but it was a start!
-

Interesting that one, when he was initially injured December was earmarked as the return date. So maybe, just maybe, he's a week or two ahead of schedule?
-
He is shit but what the fuck is going on!!!?
Whats up with him? Is it groin injury from sex or something? it can't be from playing?
He has his wedding vows tattooed across his back so you imagine he'd have plenty of credit in the (sex) bank.
-
In fairness to him (and I appreciate he hasn't covered himself in glory ) he has tried to play through an injury that has probably got worse as a result.
His time here has never really got going and he's never seemed to be fully fit for any length of time.
-
Osbourne. Play Him.
-
Think he need to get fit, go out on 3 months loan to find regular football and get him sharp and matchfit. I don't know if Reading Sidwell is a good player or not. Maybe we can send him to Reading on loan when recovered.
-
I love Salifou. I dunno why, I just do. I'd like to see him appear again in a Villa shirt. He may be bobbins, but I like him.
Sidwell? Meh! Ship him out!
-
Stephen Warnock would be ideal to step into midfield. If only we had a reserve left back.
-

We could play Luke there and put in Lichaj or Cuellar at right back? I do like the look of Lichaj, actually, so it could be a decent shout. Warnock played very well in the midfield for Blackburn a few times, especially against us.
We could also put Collins in the midfield and play Dunne and Cuellar at the back - hardly a bad defensive pairing, you'd imagine.
-
Whatever happens tomorrow night we know a couple of the players will have to play out of position
-
Thank god for that, hopefully he has played his last game for Villa. Hope this doesn't affect his selling price though which must be pretty low as it is...
-

Or did you mean 'Villa career'....?
-

Though, as Clark is showing, we have a few footballers who can play in many roles and positions.
-
Clark and Bannan deserve starting places based on the Blues and Fulham games. Ireland should then be next in line, with Warnock being the best option for a holding role though he dives in too much for my liking at Fulback and fear he would do it even more and more dangerously in the centre where free kicks would result in shots at goal.
Happy to let the kids do it till Jan and then if not good, sell the dead wood and let GH get a couple in he trusts.
-
I can't get my head round why some people are glad Sidwell is injured, bearing in mind our current injury problems.
-
Another one bites the dust. Who's next I wonder?
-

I can't get my head around anyone being glad a Villa player is injured, whatever the circumstances.
-
Not happy about Sidwell injury. But seriously think Clarke with Ireland in front of him will make us a better team ........
-
What about Herd? Is he still around? Didn't he have a pretty good loan spell at Lincoln last season?
-

What??? I thought he was Bannan;s driving instructor, surely he is not still playing
-
Surely it's Clark and Bannan with the shirts, Ireland's got to do a lot more to force his way back in.
-
Christmas 2012 Hopefully
-
Hang on, has anybody seen Sidwell and Santa Claus at the same time?
-
I will remember him for that goal at Everton.
Nothing else springs to mind other than mediocrity personified ( at best).
-
Another one bites the dust. Who's next I wonder?
I seem to remember reading a thread where you went to watch the open training session at Villa Park.
Since then I can't help but notice how bad our injuries have become.
Coincidence? I think not.
-
I think we should start a thread on who is going to get injured next. Midfield and the strikers are already screwed, so I'm betting we get him in defence next.
My money is on Dunne.
-
It will be Warnock.
-

i think that is being very unkind to mediocrity...
only thing sidwell has done well, has been as a ballboy and doing the best invisible man impression never seen...

Dunne looks like hes playing injured already he sweats when he looks at the pitch. Im fairly sure Gerard would play him injured instead of carlos anyway!

True, and MON didn't half buy some duffers.

Apart from the fact that Sidwell was a member of the five man midfield with Gabby up top that most of us remember as being one of the best runs we had under MON, including that Everton game.
-
He didn't stand out in that run mind
-
Can we have him please, Sidwell would be great for us. (Stoke)
EDIT Sorry I thought it said out as in sold. Not injured. :-\ Sorry

He did Ok during that spell. Nothing much after.
When he came on v Wigan on his debut and scored a belter I really thought we'd see a future England player. Silly me.
-
I agree he has done little since, but he has been injured and in and out of the side. The facts show that when he had a prolonged run in a settled position in the side we played well and had one of our most succesful run of results in the last few years. I do think there is a plyer in there somewhere.
That said, I thought he would have grasped the chance over the last couple of weeks, particularly in the Burnley game, and it is disappointing that he hasn't - but if he has been carrying an injury, that might be a mitigating factor?
-
I do think there is a player in there somewhere, but he always stays very very central and there's no real aspect to his game, he isn't superb at attacking or defending, or dictating play etc.
-
Of course there's a player in there somewhere but he left him in Reading.
-
How did he get injured? His wallet fell on his foot or something?
-
I will remember him for that goal at Everton.

He played his part that season. Never looked the Barry replacement he was billed as, but he had a pretty decent year.
Performances home and away to Arsenal and away at West Ham stand out in my mind.

He played well in the 3-1 at Liverpool. The goals against Everton and Wigan. Ballboy to Milner. Hitting the post from a saved penalty. Just missing loads of chances.
Its just never quite happened for him and just don't think he's got what it takes to be a player in a top 6 team. I've never faulted him for effort, he just lacks the required quality.
-
How come a lot of our players are getting injured under the new regime? This fitness bollocks clearly isn't working.
-

He should be OK at Villa now then :-[
