Knee injury.
-
Ligament damage suffered in training....
-
poo!
-
I really hope this doesn't mean Sidwell & Carew on the pitch at the same time.
We might as well send out 9 men.
Useless ******.
-
Bad news, don't think we have ever had so many injuries. Gabby better hurry up and get fit.
Apart from delfounso, what are our other young strikers like? Might be time to find the next child prodigy.
-
Step up the Fonz...surely the only option if the other 3 are injured.
-
Stefan Moore on an emergency loan from St Neot's Town? :-\
-
For all the plaudits he's been receiving lately, he still get's injured a hell of a lot.
-
It looks like our injury free luck has deserted us along with MON.
It is also probably coincidental but last month some sports trainer criticised Mancini for causing injuries to his players by over training them during the week. Houllier has recently said he has changed the whole training regime and the players needed to train harder.
-
We are fucked now!
-
Certainly feels like all the luck O'Neill had over the last three years has deserted us. He is a fragile soul though.
The defence needs to play well over the next few weeks.
-
There's a lot of crap for Houllier to shift on in the Summer, I would assume he'll be amongst the clear out.
-

Useless c***s.
Yes, that's the spirit.
-

The crap that has kept us out of the relegation zone and helped us into the last eight of the Carling Cup. I know his injury record is poor but he can't be faulted so far under Houllier; I'm more worried about the demise of Carew, injured or "fit"and the prolonged absence of Gabby.
-
Heskey is finished at the top level. Regardless of his great form of late he is far too injury prone. Thought Carew looked quite sharp in his 10 mins on Sunday and another chance for Delfeunso. Along with Albrighton,Clarke,Bannan we could have 4 youngsters playing at some stage against Fulham.
-
Oh for fuck sake.
Which isn't a comment I'd expect to make in regard to Heskey being out but he's been our inspiration up front for a while now. Carew and Ash up front then.
-
how far is weiman off from being fit? and Gabby
-
Weimann isn't ready, Delf not good enough, Gabby God knows.
-
FFS
GH has really had some bad luck.. and was left with alot of overpaid shite..
So Fonz must have to step up now.. or it will be Collins up front with Carew ;-(
-
I had a medial ligament operation last year and, although this might be something different, i cant see he would be back playing in a month.

James Collins is out on loan
-
This is not what we need another striker injured could not have happened at a worst time.
-
GH is now officially down to the bare bones. Ok, Fonzie the next month or two is your big chance.
We've had plenty of over hyped strikers that have failed to take their chances and ended up being decarded and largely forgotten. It's time to take this opportunity with both hands.
If he doesn't, he may not get another chance at the Villa.
-
I think I might turn up with my boots on Saturday, with so many injured i might get a game.... ;D
-
I am sure Big John will be up for saturday, with a night out in the smoke after to look forward to.

I'm not sure it is coincidence.
-
We've certainly hit a bad patch injury wise.
Still, no point moaning about it and I'd expect Carew to start against Fulham with the Fonz as plan B on the bench. Also expect Albrighton to come back in for Ireland.

James Collins is out on loan
What about the REAL James Collins, up front in Ricky Scimeca-esque style ?
-
Another real blow and further evidence of the true quality and depth of the squad the previous manager has left us with.
-
Anyone got size 11 boots they can lend me?
-
Another real blow and further evidence of the true quality and depth of the squad the previous manager has left us with.
How so?
We've now got our 1st and 2nd choice strikers out injured, which would hurt ANY side. We needed a new/extra striker under MON and we still need him now under Gezza. If anything in highlights our present manager being wrong when he said he wasn't after a striker right away.
-
Freidel
Young
Collins
Dunne
Warnock
Ireland/Albrighton
Sidwell/Clark/Ireland
NRC
Downing
Young
Carew
Have we any other choice?
-
Albrighton? Bannan?
-
Yes albrighton for Ireland, and possibly Clark for sidwell
-
Albrighton? Bannan?
Added Albrighton.
I meant upfront. Not sure GH is keen on Delfouneso.
-
Well at least it give Gerard an excuse to play an ultra defensive Scotland formation. But at least (in the words of DO'L) we are becoming 'hard to beat'.
-
I'd go with the usual back 5 and a midfield of Albrighton - NRC - Ireland - Downing - Ash with Carew up front.
-
Albrighton? Bannan?
Added Albrighton.

I'm with him there.

I know some people rate Delfouneso, but I've been excited by him.

Thats who I meant ;-)

He should at least make the bench for Fulham

Young
Collins

Warnock
Ireland/Albrighton

Downing
Young
Carew

I think we would win with that team, just. Dont think the ref will let us play 14 players thou ;-)
-
hopefully, this will be the opportunity for delfouneso to really show what he can do...
-
the problem with that is that carew is injury prone too, and hardly likely to stay fit for a whole month - might be worth calling james collins back from burton where hes been banging in the goals.
-
"It is also probably coincidental but last month some sports trainer criticised Mancini for causing injuries to his players by over training them during the week. Houllier has recently said he has changed the whole training regime and the players needed to train harder."
Exactly, he must be over-training them. Petrov complained that he was feeling the strain shortly before he got crocked. Relegation battling winter promises unwelcome return.
-

I'm not sure it is coincidence.
From what I gather, that's the correct answer.
-
Oh dear, it really does look as though the extra training is taking it's toll on the team. That doesn't mean that we don't need the extra training though. Essentially we have three injured strikers now, as Carew has been carrying an ongoing back problem for a while. I suppose it's four if you include Weimann. Now it's time for some of our more attacking midfielders to step up to the plate and get us some goals and maybe an opportunity for Delfouneso to get a run out, I doubt he will get a better chance than this, could be the defining point of his career.
What chance we could get a striker and midfielder on loan? Can't think of anyone to be honest.
-
I know some people rate Delfouneso, but I've been excited by him.
He should at least make the bench for Fulham
The way things are going, I should make the bench for Fulham!
I could never get a look in under Martin as my preferred position is right back.
-

More like you looked at him a 'bit funny' on the training ground, so you were frozen out.
-
I hope GH doesn't decide to go with no strikers against Fulham. That didn't work last time he tried it. Perhaps it's time for Delfouneso to get his chance, though he hasn't impressed me this season. I think on balance I'd prefer Carew, if he's fit and interested.
-
Two big "ifs" there...
-
If the Fonz doesnt start on Saturday he never will.
-
Don't think the training can be blamed. Heskey can't string more than 5 games together at time. Much as he's been excellent, his biggest problem is constant injuries.
Our fitness generally wasn't good enough either, so it needs addressing.
-
Against Fulham I'd go:
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Clark
Downing NRC Ireland Young
Carew
With Ireland detailed to assist Carew with Clark providing cover in midfield.
-
Training the players harder will have an effect on those who are injury prone, Heskey and Carew are both crocs and this is probably their last season all we need now is for Owen to be signed in January and we can have a trifecta.
-
Risso I'm surprised you'd give Ireland the nod over Albrighton from what we have seen so far this season.
-
I agree - I'd be hoping for Risso's team with the exception of Marc in for Albrighton.
-
Maybe time to give Delf a go. im guessing it wont happen but he should be given the nod to see what he can do.
If we dont sign a real striker in the window then we are royally f**ked
-
Oh dear, we really are getting crippled at the moment.
-
Risso's team is the one I'd go with - saved me the trouble posting it!
Start with that X1, then we've got Albrighton on the bench to change things if we need - we can either take one of the CMs off and go with a 4-4-2, pushing Young further upfield alongside Carew, or keep the same formation and replace Downing in the second half. Delfouneso on the bench if we need another striker.
Heskey's injury is bad news, things are really biting now. I thought I'd read Gabby might be fit after the Fulham game and come back into contention - if so, that at least gives us him, Carew and Delfouneso - plus Young, who we've used as a second striker often this season - until Heskey is fit again. Mind you, by the time Heskey is back we're not far off the transfer window re-opening...
-
I think we'll be fine with Carew as long he can stay fit.
-
I know some people rate Delfouneso, but I've been excited by him.
In an Ash Webcam type way?
-
This is not good.
I expect we will see Carew getting injured soon just to compound the misery.
Just hope the Fonz gets a go from the bench at least.
-
im not slating anyone but isnt it funny that we are getting all these injuries since houllier has "stepped" up the fitness training , LOL
delfons can do a job as good as anyone
-
delfons can do a job as good as anyone
Yup, im pretty certain if he had the same amount of time on the pitch as donkey he'd hit 5 in over a season.
-
Well, yes and no... Heskey has been injured regularly since he's been with us. In fact, it's rare that he and Carew have been fit together - when one is fit the other is injured, and so on. Gabby was injured before Houllier took charge; Petrov was injured in a game (and was probably due an injury, he's in his 30s and has been played/flogged to pieces over the last couple of years). Dunne hasn't really been right since the summer.
I think it's a coincidence.
-
Gabby did light training yesterday. Not ready for Saturdaythough.
-
He should be back in contention for the Man United game and on the bench for Blackpool.
-
Also just read Gary Gardner has been given the nod by specialists to start full training again.
-

I bet you're glad you can start supporting the team again.

I'm sure you haven't.
-
This winter I am going to support my body by wrapping it up well when I go out in the cold. Except my left foot as I fucking hate it. No shoes or socks and it can freeze for all I care!
-

que?
-
It's gone from bad to worse to shit for us with injuries. Oh well, I'm sure we'll do alright with Carew but it's a real bummer as Heskey as been doing really well. Houllier will have to start playing Delfouneso now.
-
I don't think Young did badly at all as the front-runner. Granted, we could hardly have him up there to hold the ball up, but in a way this might work in our favour as it would discourage us from hoofing it, which we were guilty of against Blues.
-
Where the fook is Salifou when you need him, in fact Ive heard Collymore has gone missing too ;-)
-

Against Burnley we still lumped it up to Young/Ireland even though we knew it would keep coming back.

True, and at the Fonz when he came on against Chelsea. However, I think we can still hope they're discouraged from hoofing it.
-
Its a shame about Heskey but If the Fonz doesn't get a run now he never will
-
Am I the only one who cannot read Phil from the upper holte's user name without going into I'm just Jenny from the block singing?

Not until now. Cheers for that.

I thought Marc was Albrighton.
-
Also expect Albrighton to come back in for Ireland.
Not picking on you John but Ireland didn't play in our last game.
-
Gonna be 7 hours and a half without a goal then on Saturday. Fantastic. When you don't prepare you deserve fuck all.
-

I think he will be on the bench. We looked more like winning the game on Sunday after Carew and Bannon came on and might have done given another few minutes or if they had arrived earlier especially Carew. He looked lively and interested so he must start at Fulham with Fonz on the bench. There will be more attacking (or are we supposed to call it offensive (yuk!) intent hopefully with Albrighton back to provide ammunition for Carew and Young. But then I don't pick the team so probably neither Carew nor Albrighton will start and we'll play for 0-0 again.
-
is there any decent out of work striker we could offer a 3 month contract ?
-
We cannot use extra training as an excuse, we have run out of steam half way through the season the last couple of years. Surely this is due partly too lack of fitness?!
-
Where oh where will our next PL goal cme from...? Answers on a band aid please...
-
is there any decent out of work striker we could offer a 3 month contract ?
i think mateja kezman just had a mutual termination of his contract with some french club...
he did alright when he was last in the prem (despite what the media said)... he had a 1 goal every 2 games in terms of goals to minutes ratio...
-
He also scored 2 in 14 games in the French league for PSG, and 3 in 21 the year before. You can't be serious?
-
Am I the only one who cannot read Phil from the upper holte's user name without going into I'm just Jenny from the block singing?
I think there are too many words, Maybe if I changed it to Phil from the Holte or Phil from the Block (k5)?
-
We'll be fine so long as Carew doesn't get crocked. That's a big if though as he does seem to pick up more than his fair share.
If Delfoneso doesn't get a game over the next month he may as well pack his bags now.
-
Carew must take this chance if he has any hope of extending his contract. Last chance, John.
-
Well John, if you want to stake a claim, now is the time. That said I'd like to see the fonz start, doesn't Gerrard rate him?
-
Lol, don't be expecting Carew to suddenly turn into God. He's clearly given up. Fuck him.
-
Christ, can it get much worse, we will be fielding 11 reserves soon.
-
I think it's more a case of hoping he wants to put himself in the shop window. But he's been a good player for Villa, so let's not castigate the fellow.
If he stays fit, we'll be no worse off than if Heskey was fit.
-
I never thought the day would come when I hear on the radio Heskey is injured and feel gutted.
He's done well for us since Gerard arrived and I really have more confidence in him than Carew or the Fonz.
This season aint going too well, like everone else is saying big John really needs to put a shift in for us at the weekend.
-

He's been good for half a season. The other half he couldn't be arsed.

Not sure about that mate, I'd say he's effective on his day - don't think he's ever been really consistent or really shit. It's scattergun form with Carew. My point is that Heskey, for his improved performance, is still hopeless in front of goal. Carew is better and so long as he stays fit and is motivated we'll not be that worse off.
Neither player is good enough for a team above mid-table.

Casano from sampdoria has been released.
It's be fun whilst it lasted.
-

Hilarious. In Italy they use the word 'cassanata', coined by Capello actually, to describe selfish, team-spirit-less behaviour. The man's utterly unhinged.
-
It really does make you wonder what exactly the previous coaching staff were training the players every week and how MON picked the same team pretty much all the time.
-

i didnt know that, was the only half decent freebie that i could think of...
