0-2 Away win.
Heskey 23
Ireland 86
-
0-1 (Heskey)
-
Please win Villa
-
2-0 defeat
-
We really need a win here although they aren't bad at home.
Draw, 1-1
-
1-1
Oh how things can change in the space of a few months.
-
Can't see where the next goal is coming from, although this can't go on forever. 2-0 Fulham, hope I'm wrong though.
-
0-0
Has Albrighton completed his suspension?
Is Gabby ready?
-
1-1
-
A 1-0 defeat leading to much wailing and gnashing (though not gnasher-ing as he seems to fooked off to the ether).
-
Well, as our manager believes we are a 8-12th placed club that are not good enough to attack I expect to lose 2-0. Whats more I expect to lose every game (or draw 0-0) until GH buggers off or he starts to play positive football.
-
Fcuk it, 2-1 win. Collins and Young.
Always confident we'll get a result at the Cottage.
-
sorry lads but a 3 - 0 defeat!
-
2-0 Villa.
-
2-0 defeat for me. They are in form and, erm, we ain't
Think it could be interesting on here afterwards if I'm right...
-
Pretty sure Fulham have won one less league game than us this season, are level on points with us and before the weekend had lost their previous two league games, so not sure how they're in much better form than us.
-
It's a sad reflection on villa at the moment that every game looks like a hard one.
We need a scrappy win so we can gain some confidence back.
-
Exactly Dante. We aren't exactly going into these games with much confidence which is horrible considering where we have finished the past 3 seasons on the trot, that the fact we played so negatively at home against the scum.
We also have a long while to go yet before it even gets resolved. Think it is pretty certain that this season is a complete write off. Knew that before the season even started the way our summer was heading. Just pretty sad that we will have to actually wait a year before we can address issues that need addressing NOW.
-
Annoyed that this game is on my doorstep but I can't go to it this year. Just can't afford it.
Difficult to be too enthusiastic though on current form - I'll go with a draw. 1-1.
-
1-1.
A Reo Coke of a screamer in the 87th min to earn a point.
Er...Dempsey for them.
-
I'll be definitely putting money on under 2.5 goals in this game. Think it has our third 0-0 draw in a row written all over it. I wont be confident of winning until Gabby is back playing well. He has his faults were are terrible going forward without him.
-
I can't tell you how many Fulham will score.... but I remain confident of an Aston Villa 0 until the boy Agbanlahor returns, that's if GH fancies him as a play of course ;)
-
0-1 Villa win. Downing in 60th minute.
-
Well I'm 40 this weekend and am off to the smoke on Friday for three nights and have tickets for the game.Being 40 is bad enough. Please Villa don't depress me further.I am hoping for 0-2 villa downing 38 heskey 86.Win,lose or draw I 'm going to be pissed on Saturday
-
1-1 with Heskey scoring .
-
Fulham win. We're shit away from home and can't score at the moment, and the midfield problem will continue until we buy a decent one or Petrov or Delph are fit again. But, I still think we're improving.
-
Another 0-0.
That'll be nearly 7 hours without a league goal?
-
Can not wait for this one, my first game since Everton at home last season. Oh and not to mention a night in London without the kids!!! 1-0 Villa win, Ash 90+2.
-
It's got draw written all over it.
-
1-0 Fulham
-
1-1 , for goodness sake.
-
We won there 2-0 last season. Towards the end of January, Gabby scored twice to end a 4 game spell where we hadn't scored. They were Gabby's 11th and 12th goals of the season.
-
We will need to score 2 to win and I can't see us doing that at the moment. So 1-1 (Young and Gera)
-
I can see it being 0-0 and a horrible game to watch
-
Have been planning the route to this today.
I've established that it should take about 2 hours and 10 minutes. (108 min's train & 18 min's tube).
As for the result - I'll say 1-1.
Has anyone got an idea when we might see Gabby playing again? Has he got the bubonic plague?
-
I'm taking the boy to his first game (they're a dosile lot aren't they) so please please a good win or he may be swayed to the dark side (Chelsea).
-
Local game for me, probably the closest Prem ground and Putney is always worthwhile having a pint in after the game. Probably stay in Croydon beforehand as its not too far to travel. Looking forward to it.
-
Another bore draw?
-
Last weekend I went to Craven Cottage (entertaining some Spanish friends who wanted to see a Premier League match). Whilst Wigan were very poor and lacking in ambition, it was easy to see that Fulham are creative on the ball, like to get forward, have loads of patience and in Salcido have one of the better attacking left fullbacks in the league. And then there was Dempsey who was brilliant all afternoon, scoring both goals, one from Salcido's perfect cross. Andy Johnson also came on - first game back and did what he does, ie made a nuisance of himself and looked pretty sharp. Whilst I am sure we'll make a better fist of it than woeful Wigan, it won't be easy. I was impressed.
-
Looking at the other fixtures, we could be sitting in the bottom 3 (or 4) if we dont get decent results against Fulham and Blackpool. As close to a must win game as it gets.
-
I'm going to buck my own optimistic trend and say we are going to lose this, possibly 2-0.
I'm saying that in the hope the opposite happens.
-
Always confident we'll get a result at the Cottage
Last season was the first time we'd beaten Fulham at Craven Cottage since 1970 ( although we did beat them at Loftus Road)
-
we have a decent record down there. I think we'll just edge it 2-1. Goals from a kicked up the arse Ireland and Ash.
-
we have a decent record down there
2 wins in the last 13 visits.
-
I think we'll sneak a 1-0 win.
Friedel
L Young
Cuellar
Collins
Warnock
A Young
Reo-Coker
Ireland
Downing
Albrighton
Heskey
4-4-1-1
Young playing off Heskey.
-
3-1 Fulham i hate to say.
-
I think things are going to get worse before they get better.
2-1 Fulham with us taking the lead.
-
Ireland needs to play, it's the only way his game is going to improve. I'd give him at least an hour.
-
Interesting choice about whether Clark or Sidwell plays in midfield alongside NRC. I still maintain that the front 4 is potentially pretty dangerous, but don't have enough goals in them.
-

Yeah I know but it never strikes me as that imtimidating an away ground for an away team espeically as we'll probably gobble up most of the neutral bit.
Same for Ewood Park which is our next away game.
-
1-0 Villa, A Young
Friedel
L Young, Collins, Dunne, Warnock
Albrighton, Reo Coker, Clark, Downing
Carew, A Young
Guzan, Bannan, Cuellar, Lichaj, Delfouneso, Sidwell, Beye
-
Forgot Ireland, he'll be on the bench instead of one of Beye or Sidwell who I think are both doubts.
-
...........Big Brad
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Albrighton Ireland NRC Downing
...............Young
..............Carew
-
Is this a game where we should go and play for a point? Go for a 4-5-1?
-
Is this a game where we should go and play for a point? Go for a 4-5-1?
Play for a pont? No, its still a winnable game IMO.
451? Yes, probably no other choice.
-
...........Big Brad
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Albrighton Ireland NRC Downing
...............Young
..............Carew
Although I like this I think its unlikely given Houllier's comments about Ireland. That's a very attacking team and I can't see that midfield bettering Fulhams.
-
Quite, we had 3 offensive players at home last week, and now with Albrighton available we might play 4 this week, but I think 5 is highly unlikely.
-
I reckon he might go for:
Friedel
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Clark
Albrighton Reo-Coker Bannan Downing
A Young
-
I like that team Dutch Villa, Fonz, Carew and Ireland from the bench if needed. What we lose in height from Carew not playing, we would gain from having a big centre mid in Clark. The 4 attacking boys will need to bring their shooting boots though, we must be more clinical.
-
I have just read some bad news for Villa fans in this Premier League football article (http://betting.betfred.com/713/sport-betting-news/villa-hit-by-heskey-blow/).
Looks like Heskey will be out for about a month after picking up knee ligament damage in training.
It comes at the worst time for the striker because he has been showing some good form this season and has looked strong in front of goal.
-
I'd like Bannan to start in place of Ireland, him and Mark seem to have a good understanding of each others game and may create more chances than we've seen of late. Like Pedro says our foward players are going to have to bring therer striking boots!
I'm trying not to expect much more than a draw so not to ruin the day out, but I have a sneaky feeling we'll do them.
0-1 Albrighton with a screaming volley.
-
I reckon he might go for:
Friedel
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Clark
Albrighton Reo-Coker Bannan Downing
A Young
Playing Ash on his own as a central striker is a dreadful idea, it will just invite presure on us as we won't be able to hold the ball up.
Carew or Delfouneso in for Clark and we'll beat them.
Playing Bannan against Fulham might be a good idea, as they like to play a bit of football themselves.
-
Bosco I disagree that Fonz is any better at holding the ball up than A Young, Carew, Heskey and Gabby are but I think Fonz would play the lone strikers role pretty similarly to A Young given their comparable sizes, styles, strengths etc.
-
0-1 (Heskey)
0-1 (Downing)
-
Nathan is more used to playing with his back to goal than Young certainly is, I don't think we'd see the best of Young playing as a central striker.
-
I'd play Ash in behind Carew or potentially give 4-4-2 a go, with the Fonz playing off him. Either way, we need to ensure that we get somebody mobile around him in support. You never know, this could be the 1 in 10 game where Carew goes mental and looks like a footballer.
-
I think Dutch Villa's team is the only way to get all our form players in the team, and leave the out of form guys like Sidwell, Carew and Ireland on the bench. We don't have to worry like last week about pitting the young boys into a derby either, Fulham are a good passing side and Bannan, Albrighton etc should fluorish in such a match. I'm not a huge fan of Delfouneso from what I've seen so far but he should certainly get 20/30 mins towards the end to impress, and Ireland too probably.
-
Maybe a traditional 4-3-3 rather than the 4-4-1-1 we’ve been playing? Clacker screening the back four, NRC and Ireland central with Downing and Ash providing width around Carew.
-
I'd like to see Bannan get a go... Maybe in for Sidwell though that is a bit unfair on Albrighton.
-
I think Albrighton is a good impact player, but gets tired later on. I think its easier to bring him on than change the shape in taking him off.
-

Friedel
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Clark
Albrighton Reo-Coker Bannan Downing

You mean Carew can hold the ball up? That's a new one on me I have to say...
-

Carew can do pretty much anything he wants when he's in the mood. Unfortunately that isnt too often.
-
Scrappy 1-0 for me, Downing
Well i hope so anyway, slightly pessasmistic (if thats how you spell it) right now
-
Big John needs to get his finger out for this one.
1-1 ( Carew)
-
2-0 Fulham
-
I think you have to play Ash, Albrighton and Downing.
Interesting question about whether Ash could play up front by himself, but that feels like a risk. Carew doesn't seem to have the mobility though, so it will be interesting. I'd be v tempted to play Clark ahead of Sidwell. But I think Albrighton, Bannan and Clark in the same midfield might be a bit much. So I'd probably go with Carew and pray that he comes back into form.
We should get there in the end, but it's going to be a stop and start season isn't it . . .
-
Carew hatrick, ash dives and gets a pen for Carews third!
you never know!
Seriously though I'd play Ireland against Fulham, I think this is the type of game he could find his feet.
NRC Clark
Downing Ireland Ash
Carew
Bring albrighton on if it isn't working!
-
Lawro says we'll lose, and complains about us being "content to play on the counter-attack". He appears to have watched one of our games this season and, reasonably enough, drawn a massive conclusion for it. Honestly, someone should just put him out of his misery.
-
Under his old mate MON he could have said that but I doubt he ever did. It's far too early to read too much into ''Hotlips'' style but we are trying to keep it on the deck a lot more and place more importance on possession.
-
My team would be....
Big Brad
Young Clark Collins Warnock
Albrighton NRC Ireland Downing
Ashley Carew

If everyone played to their potential , that team would win there.. Its just getting Carew and Ireland to hit form..
-
Carew out with a calf strain according to WM . Fonz to start
-
Crikey, we really are down to the bare bones.
-
Not sure what they will score, but we will score none.
-
Houlier confirms that Nathan will start.

Houlier confirms that Nathan will start.
Edit. Well perhaps! He will be rthe main striker because there's isn't anyone else.

-
Come on then Nathan. Prove to the boss that you are good enough. This is your big moment.
-
If Delfouneso does the business tomorrow then I might change my feelings, but I don't think the lad will cut it at this level.
-
At least GH isn't considering a 6 man midfield again..................but there's
another 24 hours to go - wrap Nathan in cotton wool please
Wasn't confident of anything but defeat at Craven Cottage but in the face
of adversity you never know............we will see which players' hearts are
really in it tomorrow
Think I will have an extra pint by the side of The Thames so we might not
look that bad when the whistle goes

We didn't play a 6 man midfield. Else it would have been bloody crowded, and if you were there, it sure wasn't crowded in central midfield.
-
They had better recall Harry Forrester from loan. Oh and "Two James Collins, there's only two James Collinseses."
-
Forrester isn't a centre forward.
-
"Forrester isn't a centre forward."
Nor is Ireland, but were you at the Burnley game?
-

I wasn't, but I know it didn't work so I don't think bringing back Forrester is the best idea.
-
3 nil defeat
-
Hopefully Ashley and Downing can provide our goal threat, If Ireland plays, he's got to try and raise his game.
-
i've gone for a win
But i am struggling to see where our goal threat is coming from
I reckon it will be a tight 1-0
but Fulham will fancy their chances with our paucity of strikers
-
Draw written all over this one to be honest.
Which of course means it'll go one way or the other.
I reckon we'll nick it. Fonzie to score.
-
Nill fucking nil again
-
Nill fucking nil again
Ditto, though if Sidwell plays I can see him giving away a pen and us losing.
-

Where is Forrester out on loan too?
-

Kilmarnock, but I don't think he's made much of an impact.
Shame I thought he looked useful in the Youth Cup semi against Chelsea.
-
2-0 Fulham. Think this will be very similar to the Sunderland game.

So did I, shame he got that bad injury!

3-1 Fulham.....
-
Good to hear GH say he's been impressed with Ireland's attitude this week.

He's not been too bad for them. They seem to be pretty happy and most want him to play at the weekend.
He scored a hat trick in a bounce game apparently.
-
Good to hear GH say he's been impressed with Ireland's attitude this week.
Where did he say this?
-
On Sky Sports
-
Time for The Fonz to prove to GH that he's worthy. It'd be nice to see him play as a centre-forward. Can't remember the last time we played him in that position, he's usually been dumped out wide.
-
"Villa have scored only two second half goals this season, fewer than any other side in the premiership"
Flashes back to the days when we won 7 or 8 away games consecutively, now we'd be lucky to win 2 in a row let alone away (looking at fixture list)
We used play like we could score from any attack, looked dangerous going forward admittedly that was a while ago now but that's what we need to recapture!
Also i don't buy GH comments about The Fonz saying he needs to be patient and bulk up if the ability's there it should shine through, £7m Hernández is smaller and seems to find the back of the net with ease when he gets his chance, Plus we have no other option but to play Delf so all that waiting and be patient talk is a load of bull.....
He has his chance now, hopefully he'll make an impact him and Albrighton to steal the show tomorrow fingers crossed.........
-
Down to our bare bones, only one 19 year old striker. You know what, we are going to win 2-1 :). Go the Fonz.
-
Backs to the wall on this one. But this unites teams Fulham 0 villa 1 The Fonz ......
-
I think GED specifically said it wasn't about fonz bulking up, it was about his willingness to be physical and hold off defenders. Clearly the better your touch, the less physical you need to be. I do think we're asking a lot for a 19 yr old to play the lone striker role. I'd expect to see ash making runs down the channels as the out ball.
-
Just leaving...c'mon VILLLLAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I think we'll lose. I'm almost certain we won't score. Ever again.
-
I can't predict this one for some reason. We really need a win but it's just hard to see it given injuries, form etc...
I'd take a 0-0.
-
Greetings from Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherds Bush, my traditional pre-Fulham haunt.
Free internet, you can't beat it !!
As for the game, considering the turmoil (that word's chosen as a tribute to Danny Baker" we have up front, we should struggle. However, I'm actually and surprsingly for me, optimistic for once
-
I think this is going to be very very tough, but we really need to win or we will start having to look over our shoulder.
-
Well ive got my luncky pants on and evrything crossed that can be............We really need 3 points today with some good performances to give us all a lift
2-1 Villa
-
Can't see us scoring, so a 2-0 defeat. Fulham are always pretty good at home.
-
Fulham 0 - 4 Villa. A Fonz brace and Collins and Albrighton. Can't beat a bit of match day optimism
-
We will need to nullify Murphy in midfield if we are get a good result in this game, he pulls most of the strings for them and they look a considerbly worse team when he isn't playing. I'm going for a 1-0 to the Villa, our defence has looked fairly solid and being an away game we should have some opportunities on the counter attack, we just need to take our chances when we get them.
-
On the basis that we've lost 5 of our last 6 away games, and can't score, and Fulham are strong at home, I'm struggling to feel confident. I still believe we're capable of winning, but could see a 2 or 3 nil defeat too. A score draw would be a good result. But we're going to have to start putting some of our chances away soon. Would be ironic if we managed it with no senior strikers available!
