As we are very short of strikers
Emile Heskey - fit and in form but get injured easily.
Gaby Agbonlahor - Still recovering from his operation not been right this season.
John Carew - unfit and uninterested
Andrea Weimann - he is out injury due to Rapid Vienna
Nathan Delfouneso - Probably not rated by club management
And we can't play with 4-4-2 due to lack of options.
Have we got any more strikers in the reserve team waiting for their chance. Such as James Collins II ? I haven't watched or monitor reserve team football this season or last.
I think if we sell John Carew, and sell/loan Nathan out to lower level, we will need three new strikers this January.
Lack of spending on strikers from O'Neill era is bitting us hard.

Do you think this is the case?
I very much hoped that The Fonz was part of our future and would be hugely disappointed to think that we are looking at shades of the Moore brothers re-visited.
-
Well we are not using him much. But again I don't know what management think of Nathan. If he is any good we would use him upfront last night.
-
There has been lots of talk that his attitude isn't too good. Quite similar with the Moores when you think about it.

With Petrov and Delph injured,Sidwell hopeless and Ireland slowly finding his feet, we'll have trouble playing 4-5-1 soon!
-
I don't think Carew is uninterested and as for the talk about Fonz, where has that come from?
-
If it is an attitude problem then that would be even more annoying.
It's one thing not cutting-it as far as ability is concerned, quite another if it hasn't dawned on him just how fortunate he is to be in the First Team squad at Villa Park. With the current state of striking affairs, any youngster with half a brain would be sweating blood to make the new manager notice him - For all the right reasons. :(
-
We lack proven options, but you can't prove yourself without the chance. Given our current crop of injuries/suspensions/lack of form I'd have though last night was the ideal chance to give somebody like Delfouneso the chance. Perhaps 4-4-2 with him and Heskey might have seen us wrap the game up in normal time.
-
I hope Gérard got the message last night that playing 6 midfielders doesn't work.
If he looks on Pravda it does show which of the players are supposed to be strikers.
-
GH reasoned that Burnley were a footballing side and so we should be able to play through them, which should have been the case. Once he saw that was not going to happen, he brought on Heskey.
We need another striker, no doubt.
-
If there is a problem with Delfouneso, Sid's worked with him long enough to know all about him.
-
Reading between the lines, and when all is said and done what else can we do, GH puts a lot more store on what happens on the training pitch, where Nathan seems not to excel, resulting not so long ago in a contretemps with fisticuffs between Nigel RC and Mon, if I am not mistaken.

If I'm being really honest, he has always looked to me as if he might have a similar attitude...
-

I agree. I think Carew 'doesn't give a s**t' would be more accurate...
-
When the old manager left players out for no reason he was rightly criticised, when the new manager does it is because of the players perceived bad attitude, sounds a bit like the emperors new clothes.

Why put him in if he's not up to the job, Mon's run off now that sort of thing shouldn't happen again.

Still hurts I see
Perhaps you are right, methinks its more to do with when the old manager of several seasons who had built the squad wasting a fortune, did it, he needed criticism.
When the bloke who stepped into the shit does it after only a few games I think its more a sensible approach to see the strength of the side.
But then I don't have a Mon love in axe to grind, do I.
-
True.
But the MON hate brigade axe does get in the way now and again.
While I would welcome a good striker signing, it is unfortunate that three strikers are out at the same time.
-
It is one area we need to address is a proven striker Heskey's playing well, Gabbys injured, Carew just dont want it and the Fonz well who know's what going on there. Come january we must buy a striker but that time of year the options are limited so we will have to go with what we have got and get the best out of them.
-
Good players still move in January. Im sure G-Hou will find us a striker.

How do we know he's not up to the job. He barely gets a look in but those who watch the reserves have always raved about him. You put players like that in to prove themselves. I'd have thought Houllier might have wanted to test all the squad at an early stage. Still, I'm not watching them all on a daily basis.

As we speak (http://jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6924103&nseq=0)...

Top flight striker too :o
-
He's going to look at both wings when he has a moment.
-
Great in the air but a dirty little Fokker ;)
