Just been confirmed by Northern Irish news that O'Neill is off to manage in Saudi Arabia, he has agreed a 2 year contract worth £4-£5m, but has to speak to Villa to sort out contract issues.
;D
-
I wonder will he be able to find premier league / scottish premier league players move to Saudi Arabia as he doesn't look outside those two league.
Let hope he will buy John Carew and Steve Sidwell and Salifou for big money.
-
I think he'll definitely go for Carew. We all know MON likes to spend big wages, and those rich men over there will give me £70-80k a week I'd imagine.
-
I bet as much as the £4m, he'll like the role of King Over the Water just as much. Every time a Premier League club are in the market for a new manager his name'll be in the frame.
-
Huh, is this serious? Can't see 'owt about it elsewhere. He must look up to Dolly O'Dreary, following him in his past two jobs now (or near enough, Saudi, Dubai, oil is oil etc.)...
-
What an odd choice
Which club is it?
-
Not a great source but;
Al Hilal representatives have revealed that, ‘a contract is almost signed and a announcement will be imminent’. The appointment of O’Neill would be another step in the right direction as, ‘the club are committed to being the biggest in the region’. O’Neill has been told that he can bring his own staff across to help him work with the likes of Lee Young-Pyo, who previously played in the Premier League for Tottenham, and Brazilian international Thiago Neves.

Who's got Didier Agathe as first signing in the sweepstake?
-
A££ the b£$t, Martin.
-
Strange choice of career move, but i hope he does well.

I hope he gets the shits.
-
This is strange. All our ex managers seem to be getting strange jobs in far off lands.
-
It's Martin O'Noil now then. I just hope they are not expectin a slick passing game. Maybe they will be happy with the defenders just Camel Humping it up the pitch. Be interesting to see how the fans respond to his somewhat crude attitude towards them.
-
Strange career decision.
A Premier League job wouldn't be beyond him.

Maybe that's the problem....nobody came looking for his services.
-
Bizarre if true. I expected him to wait for the Barcodes/Liverpool jobs.
-
Fuk me he will wilt as soon as he gets off the plane.

Imagine if he signed Sidwell...

I sincerely hope Villa don't pay that tossser a single penny.
-
I hope he get's the sudden urge to shoplift something over there.
-
Aye, has been reported in a few papers in the past few days but nobody has picked up on it. I never thought twice about it until a very credible news source here today confirmed it is happening.
-
I hope he get's the sudden urge to shoplift something over there.
A bike, perhaps?
-
work with the likes of Lee Young-Pyo, who previously played in the Premier League for Tottenham, and Brazilian international Thiago Neves.
Don't know him very well do they? Wonder if he will only sign Saudi nationals?

He did say that his philosophy when working in any country would be to sign national players. :@
-
Considering his phobia of signing players during the summer, maybe the owners just think it's a good way of saving themselves a few quid.
-
I thought that the way the knives are out for Houghton up at Newcastle, it was all being set up for MON to take over. He'd do a good job there for a couple of seasons if he did go.
He may well be considered damaged goods after his last 18 months at VP though. It was obvious that his limitations had been exposed and that getting a team to 6th in the Premiership is probably as good as he can do.
-
And they thought living in Saudi Arabia was as boring as life could get.
Just wait till Martin rocks up with Bibs and Cones and their turgid guff.
-
When I saw this was happening I just thought 'What a nob, he left Villa for this?!'
-
Hard to fathom this if it's true. It's either a money-grabbing swansong or the mother of all sulks.
-
If the rumour proves to be true there will be a little irony in the fact that MON complained about Milner leaving for the money being offered by Sheikh Mansour.
In reality few people being offered 4-5M would turn down an offer if they were looking for a job.
The bit that said that MON would have to refer back to Aston Villa re contractual issues is interesting. Does this mean that Villa are still paying MON? Would MON's signing for the Saudi club mean that if Villa are still paying MON, Villa would be relieved of having to make any further payments? If that were the case my vote is for MON to start with the Saudi's straight away!
Would this mean that in future we should address MON as Sheikh Martin Hugh Michael bin O'Neill or simply Sheikhy MON ?
All joking aside, I still respect what MON accomplished at Villa Park and wish him well. At the same time I am also very happy that we now have Gerard Houllier to help us move to the next level.
-
How can we still be paying him if the contrary canut resigned?
-
Frankly I wouldnt be surprised if he goes there.
He pretends to be different, but in the end he is like so many others after so many years in the game. Their snouts in footballs money trough.
I said when he dropped us in it 5 days before the season started, no manager has left Aston Villa and gone onto a bigger club since Tommy Docherty over 40 years ago.
Enjoy the money Mr ONeill, but professionally its as good as all over for you. Because lets face it your taking a job where you were 2nd choice because they couldnt get Sven. And why couldnt they get old Sven ? Because he preferred........Leicester City.

Just wait till Martin rocks up with Bibs and Cones and their turgid guff.
They won't see much of him, he'll just turn up now and again doing his 'Big, bad Clough' routine.
-
Sheikh MON Sir?
-
When I saw this was happening I just thought 'What a nob, he left Villa for this?!'
Haha. Same here. But then again ££££££££££

Here, here. Never a truer word spoken.
-
They are welcome to him untill he decides to jump ship on his camel because he got the hump.
-
I wonder if he has put his Dummy in his suitcase or is it still on the floor in Randy`s office ............
-
I wonder will he relocate to Saudi Arabia :)
-
Not far enough from Witton, imo, but undoubtly a good start.
-
Is this a joke or what?
-
And MON's tactics and footballing method wouldn't work in Saudi Arabia due to wonderful climate and environment (Too bloody hot)
It will be a big challenge for the dinosaur.
-
No alcohol problems in the team for MON!
-
Is this a joke or what?
No it's true.
-
Has he actually made up his mind yet or will he spend another month dithering?
-
2 years ago I'd have been very, very surprised at this. Not so much now. It really is a shame he couldn't manage 'the next step' with us. As good a manager as he is, I just don't see how he could with any fringe Champions League club. Maybe he's realise this too?
For the first few years, good luck to the bloke.
