Title: Open Training Session
Post by: Legion on October 25, 2010, 02:02:02 PM
Very well organised and attended. Got there relatively late (just before 11) but little VillaFred really enjoyed himself. Shouted 'Missed!' a lot more than 'Goal!', though.

Got there early so my girls were lucky enough to get stickers and onto the pitch at the end for autographs. They were absolutely thrilled although the only one I could decipher was Ashleys

Steve Sidwell and John Carew were very poor today in training. Very little effort, how they expect to get back in the side when training like that is beyond me.

Carew was a joke. They were doing passing circles where 2 players had to intercept the ball, everytime the other one in the middle with Carew lost the ball Carew threw his bib to get out of it. He was a piss take. Totally not interested.

Downing was very good and Habib Beye was even playing upfront in the two touch game, which I thought was very good.

The two touch game is really what we've been lacking. Control/Get the ball and then look for a good pass.

I was impressed with McAllister.

One thing that I really noticed today was the spirit. Lots of players seemed to be enjoying it and having a laugh, whilst still taking it seriously.

My mate that I went with (well us and all the kids!) said that you could tell even in a public run around like that players that really try in training and others that just go through the motions

Sidwell was useless. Nothing new there then.

Nice touch from Bannan at half-time in the two-touch game when he came over to see if the female steward he hit with a wayward shot was OK. I had a great viewpoint from right above the players tunnel.

Yep, that was a cracking shot if he meant it.

Sidwell did that towards the end of last season before a home game. Smashed the ball into the lower holte and smashed a female supporter in the face whilst drinking a coffee. He came over a few minutes later and said sorry and signed an autograph for her. She should have punched the useless twat.

I got hit in the chest by a wayward Darius Vassel shot once. It really hurt.

He didn't apologize though. Miserable git.

I used to work with his ex, I told her about this and she texted him. He replied with 'lol'

Miserable git.

It's something I just don't get. Sidwell had a decent game by his standards on Saturday and now with Petrov out for at least two months, you'd think he'd be doing everything to get his name on the team sheet. If he was carrying a knock, then fair enough but if not, I hope we get rid in January.

As for Carew, he's always had an attitude problem. I remember an interview he gave years ago saying if he wanted, he could be as good as Ronaldo (Brazilian) but couldn't be bothered (to put the effort in). He was happy enough as he was.

You should have smashed a football at her head & seen how funny he thought that was.

I would have done but she's slightly famous and would probably have sued me for loss of earnings. And besides, there's no way I could have mustered up the power the almighty D-Vas did. That's why he played for Villa, and I never will.

It was interesting watching the players 'warm up' routine

The guy at the front was Sidwell who dictated the pace he wanted-

The guy at the back ? Young7 ..............says it all about some of our
current players

Agreed Carew doesn't appear to put much effort into training either,
just enough to get by from what was observed today-

NRC beat the gk with a one on one during 2 touch ........
appeared the squad played a trick on him as they came out
the tunnel .........after about 10 yards he realised he was on his own
.........I hope it's a sign he will be team captain whilst Petrov is sidelined

I took my four year old Carew mad lad with me, and we sat in the Doug Ellis lower - decent view. Unfortunately we didn't get there early enough to get the stickers for the autographs so thought we would have no chance of pictures or autographs.

We tried in vain to get Carew's photo, - in fairness he was mobbed and then after about ten minutes of signings/photo's he got bored and legged it. Carlos Cuellar also seemed to be enjoying himself with the fans when his team mates had disapeared. We then moved to the lower North Stand in pursuit of getting a signing from Ashley Young who was by the Trinity tunnel. At this point Brad Guzan appeared and signed pics and had photo's for all the fans, - my lad was chuffed. (Wannabe goalkeeper), then NRC came across to the waiting fans and signed for all of them and had photo's. Stephen Ireland then made his way across from the Doug Ellis (where he had signed signed until all had left) - he then signed for every single fan. Gerrard Houllier (after doing an interview) then came across and posed for pics and signed his autograph. Then, when the stewards where telling everyone to go home as Ashley Young was "going down the tunnel" he ran across to the North Stand and signed/posed for every single person.

Notible contributions also from, Delfonz, Albrighton, Bannan, Warnock and Downing

Yes, I suppose you could argue that they 'should sign for the fans', but it was good of Ireland, Ash, Houllier, NRC and Guzan to go that extra mile, it certainly sent my lad home happy.

Shame the likes of Dunne, Sidwell, Collins, Friedal, Beye, Heskey, couldn't have been as willing as their team mates.

All in all, well done to all who organised it.

Speaking of female stewards, well I don't know if she was a steward exactly, but the blonde with the pony tail and short skirt was alright.

Out of interest, does anyone know how many turned up to watch?

Around about 10,000.

It's hard to say whether individuals train like that all the time but Carew certainly didn't look interested at all.

When the 2 players were in the middle of the circle Carew and Habib Beye just didn't bother - it looked a bit pathetic to be honest.

On the flip side Emile Heskey shone out head and shoulders for effort and workrate, not far behind was NRC.

I'd have to question whether there really was 10,000 there - certainly there are a few things they can do to improve the day but when it's free you can't really complain much can you?!
