Big game this.  As things stand we're 3 points off 5th.  Lose today and a bit of a gap will have been created.
Win, and we're right in amongst the top sides without having found our form or identity.

C'mon Villa!

Petrov off he's shit anyway so no great loss...
He's our best central midfielder. And we have Sidwell coming on instead.
//
That's your opinion i think he's shit i would of brought Albrighton on instead.
You're also wrong. And don't seem have noticed that bringing on a winger for our defensive midfielder is a fucking stupid idea.

Ireland is absolutely cack. At the end he had a great chance to shoot, but ballsed out, and we ended an attack, getting a lucky freekick on our own half, after Dunne was hazzled out of posession.

We are loosing the ball almost every time we try move forward, due to their prescense...Utter shit performance. How we are loosing god knows. Now you better earn your wages Gerrard!
Title: Re: Sunderland v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: brontebilly on October 23, 2010, 03:57:27 PM
Stephen Ireland has been beyond awful frankly. He looks a born coward out there shying away from anything remotely physical. Dont know why we havent swapped the wingers around. Downing after a good start has been poor and overplayed it. Ashley Young isnt getting a sniff on the other side. We will struggle to create too much with Reo Coker and Sidwell in the middle but still a point here for us. We were well on top until they scored.

Id withdraw Ireland - we are playing with 10 men effectively. Put Young in the hole and Albrighton on the right. Heskey has been good today but we need Young playing off him more. Warnock is struggling with the Egyptian badly but apart from that they aint great. We can get a point but a big half time for Gerard Houllier. Turn this around and our season can get going properly. Lose and we really could struggle. My oh my but we need a central midfielder who is comfortable on the ball in Jan.

Would agree about Beye being good, ok defensively but poor on the ball.

Not sure it was a foul.  Cattermole got away with an identical one in the first half against Petrov.

Feeling for Houllier at the moment. The squad he was left with has too much drek and those not much of a decent blend. The lack of a really decent front man is also a problem. Much as Heskey is playing well since Houll's arrived, he'll never be a goalscorer. Much work to be done methinks.
