I once read a Manure fanzine where they thought it was the funniest thing ever to go on about 'Gary Barry', I never got it myself. They also had a hate campaign against Rochdale (or another similar North west team) in that rag for reasons I cannot remember. And while I continue off topic a drunk Manure fan tried to piss on me after the 1-1 game when Mellberg scored with a header and Gary Barry (sic) took the piss out of Beckham for 90 minutes. And thankfully he missed with the piss!

Is it really any more amusing than Andy Cole or Les Ferdinand?

The name Gareth has an abbreviated form. It's hardly Dylan going electric.

I thought Gary Barry was a character out of Phoenix Nights. Or was that Jerry Berry...?
