Groin op apparently. Maybe the snip?;-)
-
Hopefully Delboy gets a chance, while he is out.
-
Really is time for Heskey to prove he can do the business. At least Gabby will be properly fit for the "scum" he always scores ............
-
Minor surgery ..is it brain?
-
I just hope that's the last of is injuries this season.
-
He's not looked right since the start of the season so hopefully this will sort it.
-
Always a worry when a player like Gabby has injuries requiring surgery. Fingers crossed he gets it sorted.
-
When's he back?
We're missing him.
-
Didn't GH say he'd only miss the Chelsea and Sunderland games?
We need him back a.s.a.p, hopefully get some minutes against Burnley to get him ready for the Derby.
For the 4-5-1 to properly function, we need his pace to stretch defences as for all of Heskey's good form we don't carry a sufficent goal threat with him as the lone forward.
-
Any update on when he'll be back.
-
We have really missed Gabby and deperately need his pace up front.
However, I think it is wishful thinking if we expect him to be magically fit for the Smal heath game when he hasnt played competitively for a month. Plus the last time I saw him against Blackburn he looked maa stone overweight which is unusual for him.
-
I agree we need him back for his goal threat. But I don't think you can say Emile hasn't enabled us to play the 4-2-3-1 properly.. His hold up play has been brilliant. But he won't get more than 5 goals even if he plays all season.
I was going to say we can't possibly afford to do that. Although I do have a vague impression that Valencia won the league with Carew playing the lone striker role and only scoring once all season. That doesn't sound possible though!

I don't recall much about Valencia but presumably they had support strikers who played off Carew and scored the goals. We don't seem to have ANY effective strikers at the moment so the best ambition at the start of a game is a 0-0 draw!

According to Physio room no return date
-
I can't see him being fit for Sunday
-
Remember we went 20 odd games unbeaten with Gabby as the lone striker in 08/09.
I'd still have him ahead of heskey in the lone role as he has a bigger goal threat and more pace to stretch defences.
-
The think about Gabby is that at his best he can hold the ball up as good as Heskey ala the CCup final where he was superb. At his worst he still forces defenders to drop deep as they are scared of his pace, he wins so many penalties and forces yellow cards and penalties. Gabby at his best like last season is capable of 15-20 goals a season and will get penalties, free kicks, opposition yellow cards. To be honest without spending 20m plus I dont really think there is a player out there that would improve us much more than Gabby.
But he is not really an option wide right as he is brainless in the extreme. He screws up so many passes on the counterattacks, always signposting where is going to play it. Up front or on the bench I reckon.
-
Fit or not I'd have him on the bench on Sunday just to out the fear of God into them when he warms up.
-
One thing we haven't seen too much of yet is Ash playing central with Gabby upfront. I've always thought they played well together and had a good understanding, so that might make a very effective partnership once he's fit.

Totally agree
Pace is the one thing that will really hurt most defences and whilst Ivanhoe has done okay of late he is never going to score many

If Gabby is 100% fit then he is by far and away at his best on his own. Without being too harsh, as the fast striker I always think you have to have the football brain to read the game if playing off another man, whereas on your own the role is more defined to either running over the top or sheinding with the back to goal. Now "really" or "definateerrly" Gabby is not the brightest button, but is very strong, willing and talented when on his own. I think our formation at the moment is made for him to do well when he is fully fit. If only 20 minutes in him though, I would have him on the bench this weekend. They are shit scared of him and Dann/ Johnson are not the fastest.

Gabby is the player we miss more than any other when he is out of the side.
I have no doubt that we would be better off points wise had we had him fit all season.
