Interesting lineup, didn't expect to see Dowining, Albrighton and Young in the same team. Glad to see Carlos at the back.

We look more solid for having Carlos the tackle back in the side. Him and Collins should be the partnership to break up this season. Dunney needs a month or two of shifting weight, and Davies is just bobbins. Clarky's time is not yet, but he'll be good.

Yep. He's a quality player. In all fairness he was very unlucky not to be a first choice at CH last season, if not for a very impressive partnership of Collins and Dunne. I think some have forgotten after seeing him so often played out of position.

In my opinion I think he's actually the best CB we have in all honesty.

Heskey is providing an outlet, the ball gets up to him and he's either winning it in the air or laying it off.

Ash looks like he can cut through them at anytime and young Albrighton has been our biggest  threat. So much so that Boxhead has pulled off the fullback already.

Still a lot of life left in this game though.

Wolves are well in it, despite not playing particularly well. A goal to them and you feel they might be hard to contain. A goal to us though and we could run out comfortable winners.

Good, entertaining first half. A proper derby.

I just hope we don't suffer from all these long throws into the box. The players seem to have been told if in doubt, knock it out. We're putting a lot of additional pressure on ourselves, let's just hope we can hold out and get another.

So far so good. It's been fairly comfortable. When we play, we play some good stuff. Above all we look well organised and the side has some balance. I'd still like to see more from Warnock and Petrov, but everyone else looks well up for it.

We do look a lot better and a lot more solid than previous matches, for having Cueller and Nigel in the side.

Luke Young has been excellent too. Really glad we managed to keep hold of him.

Forced sub through injury although he might have thought the player was being ripped to ribbons when fit, carrying a knock he had no chance.

We have to get a grip in midfield, Petrov being particularly anonymous as usual. I can see them getting one back, otherwise, and that'll be hard to come back from as we're far too wasteful going forward. Still, cracking goal, and we have options from the bench now that O'Pram-emptier has toddled off.

Apart from anything else, Heskey's quite clever with his hold up play, and in return Ash can read it. I think at times previous, Heskey and Carew have struggled to play with Gabby, because he's not really got a football brain, and doesn't read the knock downs. Ash will get a lot of joy in the middle playing with one of the big men (or at least if Carew regains some form/enthusiasm, but till then Heskey is doing fine).

I think with Coker in the team we can afford to play Ireland in the middle next to him. He'll be allowed some freedom to instigate play. He's not really a centre mid playmaker, but could become one. His game may have to alter slightly with Ash playing like this in his position.
But yes, Stan is a passenger right now.

If not Ireland, might be worth bringing on Sidwell to help look after the backline.

I was more concerned about Stan being in the starting eleven than Heskey. I can't see what he offers at the moment, yet I'm not so sure of playing Ireland out of position. I'd only consider picking Sidwell if all the other midfielders at the club had been eaten by a giant leopard.

Warnock is having a mare, Petrov is knackered, Albrighton has run out of steam. Heskey isn't getting the ball, so Gabby might be a better option now to freshen things with his pace.

Gotta do something. Lets see if GH is pro-active. We can still win this.

Most definitely. Nige is only 26. Stan's on a downward spiral now. Sell him while he's got some takers. Get in a decent partner for Nigel, and the midfield will be solid. Delph can't get back soon enough.

Something along the lines of:  "well lads, we look a big threat going forward, so what i want you to do is let Wolves have as much of the ball as possible, show no attacking intent, put the ball out for needless corners, throwins and give away as many silly free kicks as you can.  Look extremely tired and unfit and above all else, defend crosses like fuckin retards

You get the sense our pre-season was slack with O Neill clearly one foot out the door. We look so fucked compared to Wolves it's not funny. There's no way the O Neill of old, with his mind 100% on the job, would have let Dunne get so fat, Gabby carry so much weight, and our squad blow it's tank after one half.

Stan Collymore said "I defy you to see a better header in the Premiership this season". Well, well.

This from the BBC site:

1550: GOALFLASH Wolves 1-2 Aston Villa (Heskey)

1549: Steve Sidwell is coming on for Villa to try to tighten things up in the middle of the park. Stiliyan Petrov is the man making way.

1548: The home side definitely look more likely to get a winner at the moment. Adiene Guedioura is almost invited to have a go at goal by a retreating Villa backline, but his low effort was never going to trouble Brad Friedel.

Sidwell has actually shored things up a little to be fair to him too. Petrov was absolutely dead in the whole game.

Do these cants agree pre season that all matches should carry 4 minutes added time?

There have barely been any stoppages in this half.

Poor tackle from Sidwell, there. Given them a very useful free kick, and another minute too, probably.

30 seconds for each substitution and 30 seconds for each goal. Makes sense to me. 1:30 minutes for goals, 2 minutes for substitutions ... that leaves 30 seconds for stoppages.

Wolves down to 10 if he can't continue. Lots of additional time now. And extra 3 mins on top of the 4.

Two goals and a few subsitutions will easily give you the 4 minutes.

Fucking outstanding result.

Considering we were the worse team for the majority of the second half I cannot stress just how happy I am for that!

I get the feeling that only a man like Gerard Houlier can get the best out of Emile Heskey.

If we can still turn out a win a game that we were trailing through for a majority then I think Villa can do a lot better than I expected this season.

Massive amounts of air punching, the air in front of his body rather than up, that type.

I really like Collins. Great attitude and very good player. One MON definitely got right.

We owed the Dogheads one for daring to not lose against us last season.

We do, over recent years, seem to have developed a nack for really late winners against the run of play against our local "rivals".

The first half performance was good but the second was poor and I thought Wolves were the better side.

I agree to a point.

I believe that we were lucky in 2 of our 3 league wins so far. We got a spanking by everton and were spanked in the second half yesterday.

I certainly wasn't expecting anything to come of this season but who knows.
