Another one thats probably been done before but I remember Steve Mcmahon against the Albion in '83 and Platt at Blackburn in '88. The Gray brothers Stuart and Andy jnr did well at Bradford in '87 too. And was anyone there at Exeter when Simon Stainrod got four goals on his debut, because it was mostly downhill after that wasn't it?
-
Didier Six 1984 was tidy, Carlton Cole 2004 scored on his debut against Southampton but both were downhill from there really.
-
I was going to mention the two above, Draper was quite impressive as well.
-
Carbone
Dion's first 3 or 4 games were pretty spot on
-
Dion Dublin made a fairly swift impact to be fair!
-
Mark Draper vs Man United 1995 - completely ran the show.
Luc Nilis home debut vs Chelsea and Dean Saunders home debut vs Liverpool
-
Heskey?
He made his debut against Portsmouth on 27th Jan 2009 & scored from 20 yards, the 1st time he has scored on his debut for any club for which he has played. He scored one more goal before the end of the season, with the opening goal in a 1–1 draw with West Ham United. He finished the season with 14 appearances and two goals for Villa.

Big Ron's debut back at Hillsbrough, first game of the season.
Scorching hot day, half a dozen players making their debuts for villa, Sheff Weds fans howling abuse at Ron from 3 sides of the ground, S Yorks police deciding to open up a corners of the Leppings lane to make space for the thousands of extra Villa fans that turned up, Sheff Weds going 2-0 up, Villa tearing them to pieces in the second half, playing some fantastic football. Great day
-
Although we lost, Ashley Young against Newcastle I remember being a great debut and he scored as well.
-
Carbone against Wimbledon was awesome.

One of the best away trips without a doubt, Staunton, Teale, Richardson, Regis, Atkinson and Mortimer made their debuts and Regis, Atkinson and Staunton scored

Didier Six 1984 was tidy...
That's quite an understatement, as I remember. I'd have used the word "explosive" myself.
Like you say, shame how his time at VP turned out.
-
As with many of a certain age, I too will vote for Didier Six.
-
Sasa Curcic vs Derby looked very tasty. He did look the part in his first dozen or so appearances.
-
Suppose we should mention Andy Gray.
Man United? League Cup? goal on his debut

yes, now go and have a shower and wash your mouth out Chico.

"sticks head above parapet and shouts"
Stylian Petrov v Wet Sham away.

Stylian Petrov v Wet Sham away.
Great call. I thought we'd bought a belter.
-
If I remember correctly Nigel Callaghan had a good debut and scored against Sheff Wed. I can also remember getting a train to leicester as a kid to watch Steve Foster make his debut - we lost 2-0 and it wasn't up there with the best!
-
Brian Tiler against Cardiff on Boxing Day 1968.
Everything about this game was fantastic. Won 2-0 in front of over 41,000 on a semi frozen pitch, Barry Hole and Tiler with a header if I remember.
-
Mellberg at Spurs, I seem to remember him being absolutely brilliant
Actually so was Alpay at Leicester the year before, although after ten seconds he flew into a challenge a Collymore just flew past him, apart from that he was a rock that game
-
I remember Sasa Curcic debut, think it was Derby or Leeds at home,he ran the show, then when we drew nil nil at home against Utd and he was brilliant. I said to my old man as we were leaving the ground,'he could be our Cantona' boy did i regret saying that!
-
I remember Petrov being sensational in his debut at West Ham. He looked the complete midfielder and came close to a debut goal when he lobbed the keeper (if memory serves).
-
Dean Saunders at home v Liverpool.
-
Dean Saunders at home v Liverpool.
That was his home debut, his debut was the previous week at Leeds.
-
Dublin v Spurs takes some beating for me.
I thought we'd got the dream ticket with Dublin & Collymore with Merse behind them.
-
Dean Saunders at home v Liverpool.
That was his home debut, his debut was the previous week at Leeds.
But it's a kind of debut so it half counts. (Bloody smart arse)
-

........ remember it well, he headed in a corner at the Holte End
-
Another vote for Didier Six! Did nothing after his debut though did he?
-
Bernie Gallagher v Man U in a 3-1 defeat :)
Gareth Barrys debut at Hillsborough in 98, a great 4-1 win , Yorkey was unplayable.......
-
As with many of a certain age, I too will vote for Didier Six.
Does that mean we are old gits now.
I think the only other thing he did after that was score a cracker against Southampton in a 2-2 draw.
-
Brian Little 1972 V. Torquay. Scored one made two as i recall. We won 5-1 and there was this genral ralisation that we'd unearthed someone really special.
-
I'd also go for Didier Six. He tore Manchester United's England international right back at the time, Mike Duxbury a new arsehole.
A more recent candidate on his home debut was Joey Gudjohnssen in around 2003. He was fantastic and I thought we'd found a diamond. Unfortunately he never remotely impressed as much in any game for us again.
-
Lee Hendrie at QPR in about 92(?) came on as a sub and then got sent off!! I was battered that day as I think it was just before christmas.

You say that as if you only get wrecked when it's Christmas time
We all know that aint the case...
-
From the matches I actually saw, I'd agree about Didier Six, Brian Little and Brian Tiler being strong contenders. Another impressive debutant who the oldies among you will remember was 16-year-old Walter Hazelden in 1957, who scored on his first appearance, away to West Brom (that was the match when Ronnie Allen burst the ball when scoring a penalty against us), then got 2 on his home debut in his second game. I remember the Argus getting quite excited about him. But this was another story of promise unfulfilled. He scored no more that season and after a couple of years went into non-league football with Wigan.
-
I know we're talking first appearance but can I have special dispensation to put Mark Albrighton against Wet Spam in here somewhere?
-
Simon Stainrod.
All four Villa goals away at Exeter in the League Cup 1985, you'll struggle to beat that!
-
Did Ian Taylor make his debut at home against Chelsea & score in a 3-0 win?
Just checked it, he made his home debut against Chelsea. I'm sure he scored in the Holte end.

I think that was Taylor's home debut - he actually made his debut at Arsenal a few days earlier.
-
Did Vassell score two goals on his debut in Europe?
-
Carbone is the stand out for me, I remember saying to a mate that it was the first time in ages I had felt exhilarated coming away from a game
-
For me it has got to be when BFR took over first game of the season Sheff Wed away and we won 3-2 what a game for, i would also go with Didier Six's debut.
-

The day before Christmas Eve 1995.
-
It has to be Stainrod in the League Cup at Exeter in 1985. I was at the game and it seemed everytime he shot he scored
-
Did Vassell score two goals on his debut in Europe?
Correct, he scored 2 right at the end against helsingborgs or stromsgodset?!? Then he played in our 6 a side game a few months after and ripped us to pieces.
-
I'd also go with Ian Taylor on his debut vs Chelsea and Darren Bent vs. Man Citeh
-
Dion Dublin against Spurs scored twice and lead the line superbly.
-
I can't believe there has only been one mention of Luc Nilis.
The Six debut was pretty special as well.
-
Didier Six vs manure easily the best debut I've seen
