2-0 Home win
Gabby 23
Young (A.) 55
-
Yeah home win for me too. 3-0 Villa.
-
This is the one we win, they always play that suicidally high line against us. If we don't win, I'll be really disappointed.
-
I think we'll bounce back for this one, we'll win 3-0.
No Cahill?
-
Villa 4 Bolton 1
-
We'll play some pretty passing football. We'll make numerous chances. Kevin Davies will bully us.
-
I think we'll bounce back for this one, we'll win 3-0.
No Cahill?
Nope he's out.
-
Lets be honest saturday can't come soon enough.
2-0 Villa win, but it will be a struggle.
-
I think we'll bounce back for this one, we'll win 3-0.
No Cahill?
Nope he's out.
Shame, he's usaully shit against us.
-
3-0 to us
Downing (29)
Dunne (44)
Heskey (87)
-
Also isnt Jaskelinnen (sp) out suspended after he got sent off against the Blues
3-0 us
-
1-0 win. A.Young to score
-
3-1 Villa
Gabby
Ireland
Young (A)
-
I think we'll win 1-0.
Really don't know what side to play.
Gabby really needs to work on his movement to be more of a threat.
-
Is it too early to be a season-defining game?
A defeat would really hurt the confidence of the squad. I suppose it's Houllier's job to bring it out more.
-
I think it is a defining game ... gives us the opportunity to develop an image of being stronger at home (with 3 wins on the trot) , which we've struggled with in the last couple of seasons.
That'll be the kiss of death then!
-
0-1
Elmander
-
cahill has had his appeal turned down, so will be suspended.
jussi is also suspended.
i think owen coyle is a very good, young manager, but we should be too strong on saturday.
2-0 villa.
-
3-1 Villa if only because Legion is back doing the Pre-Match thread and we seem to lose when someone else does it.
Albrighton, Agbonlahor 2 and Cahill for them.
-
Ireland has to start. I would bring him in for Albrighton. And put AY back on the wing... Let Albrighton run at them for the last 25 minutes... Play Ireland in an attacking role in a 5 man midfield with Gabby up front... 3-0 Villa
-
1-1 Gabby and Davies
-
3-1 Villa
Gabby, Ashley and Downing
-
0-3 Elmander, Davies, Knight
-
very dangerous game this one, coyle has them believing in their selves and they'll fancy
coming to us at this stage. Another physical team that can cause us problems.
Should be a villa win but anything else will be seen as disastrous around these parts.
-
@I think we'll win this and win it well. I'd play the same starting xi.
-
A drab, uninspiring draw 0-0
Highlight being a pre-match live-by-satellite message by Gerard Houllier wishing us all the best for Xmas and 2011

Hope you purists aren't upset by any diving this time ...

-
2-2.
Coyle will come up with something better than Megson has produced in the last few seasons at VP which isn't hard. He's a 4-4-2 man so I'd imagine it will be an open game which should suit us.
I expect Gabby to get some joy against a CB partnership of Zat Knight and Andy O'Brien but equally I'm concerned that after Monday Dunney and Collins will be feeling vulnerable and with martin Petrov whipping in the crosses for Davies, not confident of a clean sheet.
-
anyone taking bets on whether houllier will be there or not?
-

Love it.
-
Us 2 - 1 The other team who won @ the sty
Ash & Gabby. ElmStreetander for them.
-
I think Bolton will be more dangerous than some are giving them credit for - this is not an Alladyce team afterall.
I think we'll murder them and draw 1-1.
-
Cahill banned
-
It would be good for GH to come into a winning team. I think we're not too bad on our own patch. Certainly we should be twatting the likes of Bolton. Our midfield worries me against bruisers though, so it might be tight.
2-0 Villa
Ireland
Gabby.
I'd rest Albrighton and bring Ireland in.
-
Cahill banned
Is Jaskaleinan still banned too? If so that's their best 2 players out.
-
3-1
Dunne
Gabby
Albrighton
Davies
-
A thumping 4.0 win
UTV
-
AVFC 4 Bolton 1
Its my Birthday weekend and they will not let me down!!
-
Cahill banned
very, very tough on the Bolton defender in my opinion, they will miss him.
-
6-0
Salifou (hat-trick)
Heskey (hat-trick)
-
6-0
Salifou (hat-trick)
Heskey (hat-trick)
Namaste, turn off that PS3.....
-
1-0. Albrighton 81.
-
Fortress Villa Park - and it has to be looking at our last couple of away games.
2-0.
-
I thought Juicy was back in goal for them because he missed the Arsenal game, or did he get done for violent conduct? Kicking and cuffing a Blues player shouldn't count as an offence. Interesting to see how we line up- on the bench as much as on the pitch. Is GH fit and available??
-
Yet to concede at VP in the league with 100%, smashed 13 past Bolton in the last 3 games. Therefore 3-0 Villa. Gabby, Collins and Young(A).
-
Villa 3 Bolton 1
Gabby (2)
Hesk.....Only kidding.
Young.A
Elmander for them.
-
GHOUL's first selction:
Friedel
Young Cuellar Collins Anyone but Warnock (Downing)
Young Reo-Coker Ireland Albrighton
Agbonlahor Carew
Team to walk away with 3-0
-
AVFC 4 Bolton 1
Its my Birthday weekend and they will not let me down!!
It's my birthday weekend too! No excuse for letting us down now.
I reckon they'll score a goal for each year i've been on the planet.
Us 32 - 0 them.
-
2-0 Collins Gabby
-
A nervous 3-2 Villa win. Gabby, Ashley and Dunne.
-
I feel bad about saying it but I really don't have any confidence in KMac - to pick the right team, to make the right substitutions and to gee-up/bollock the players when need be.
The imbalance in the midfield will continue and Warnock and Dunne are not at their best at the moment. I would gladly take a scrappy 1-0 win, Houllier cannot come in soon enough.
I'll be in a mountain-village in the south of Italy when this is on, it'll be a nervous text home on Saturday evening to see how we've fared.
Very tempted to go for an away win but I'll say 1-1.
Which reminds me, the pools seem to have turned against us after the Newcastle thumping. They had us down to lose against Everton and now to draw against Bolton despite the fact we've thumped them at home in recent seasons and that geezer in the Sunday Times always bangs on about previous encounters as if they're hugely indicative in his pools column.
-

Friedel

midfield is so soft... we badly need a hard nasty basta**d general in midfield.... We would be well sorted then and obviously a striker....
-
..................Friedel
Young Dunne Collins Warnock
.............NRC Ireland
Albrighton.....Young.....Downing
.................Flabby
-
Woah! That's funky.
I doubt Petrov would be dropped, but I think NRC and Ireland need a chance to play together.
-
I don't think KM is now picking the team.
I hope the new manager principle works from Bolton onwards until at least Chelsea, too. we might be in with a top 4 chance then
-
I would hope Houllier's presence in the stand will galvanise them sufficiently to see off Bolton assuming McDonald picks the right side - for me the same as Stoke but with Ireland for Albrighton and Young back out wide.
9 points from 5 games would be a decent base to work from.
-
Would love to see Ireland behind Gabby and young back wide but expecting same side as Monday. We'll make hardwork of it but will scrape the win 2-1
-

Happy days !
-
We always smash Bolton at home.
-
I've just taken up the club on a current deal and got a ticket in the Holte for £10 for this game!
3-1 to us. A bit like Monday's game with us playing great football in patches and looking clueless in others. We could make it more comfortable for ourselves if Brad stops hoofing it up the field at every opportunity and conceding possession but we won't. Expect us to be under more pressure than necessary, as usual, and hope that Houllier can sort out this part of our game in due course.
We would have walked Monday's game if we had been smarter about keeping the ball, but that's probably a hangover from MON's days. Keep the ball lads and we'll do fine.
-

I doubt Houllier is the kind of man to pick a team from his french office having not even worked with the squad on the training pitch. You, sir, are deluding yourself. It will be a KMac team and tactical design through and through.
-
With Bolton having so many injuries and suspensions we have to win. No Cahill and probably no Kevin Davies.
2-0 Gabby and Downing.
-

Agree we need a nasty man however till we do do you think James Collins could do tho that job?
-

That midfield is powder-poof (sic) and piss-weak. Downing+Albrighton+ one (never mind two as you have) of Ireland and Young is always going to be out-muscled. Petrov or NRC can't be expected to break-up play on their own.
For physical away games I'd consider bringing Cuellar in at the back with Dunne, stick Collins in midfield alongside NRC, take Downing or Albrighton out and put Young on the left, Ireland in the hole.
-
Friedel
Cuellar - Collins - Dunne - Young
NRC - Petrov
Albrighton - Ashley - Downing
Gabby
I thought the front 4 played brilliantly on Monday, so there isn't much to change.
-
I'd pick the same team as on Monday, but change the bench to Carew, Guzan, Cuellar, Fonz and a.n.other ( anyone frankly).
-
Same as Monday but I'd bring Ireland in for Albrighton, move Ash onto the wing and play Ireland off Gabby.
-

Good call. Albrighton to come off the bench. Heskey to not even be on the bench.
-
What has KM got against Delboy? He isn't even making the bench is he?
-

Ye has been a mystery to me. Has only played him once for a few minutes. Please dont tell me "Mac" has a mean streak ..................
-

Hmmmmmmm I temporarily forgot about Ireland !
I'd drop Reo Coker for Ireland against Bolton and play Albrighton.
I am a little concerned about the gate - it may be no more than 32,000.
-
I'd pick the same team. They showed lots of quality going fwds so I'd definitely stick with the same front 4. I thought Albrighton was excellent in the first half, but weak in the second when he was mostly on the left and just kept on running straight into the full back!
There's a temptation to bring Ireland in, but that does risk leaving us weak in the middle so I'd stick with what we have.
I'm not quite sure why Warnock is getting so much stick, one slip apart (on a a greasy pitch) I don't remember him doing that much wrong?
-
Agree with Matt, same team again, and Warnock criticism harsh. I'm not that fussed we got Ireland in and don't think he warrants a place right now. A fit Delph may have been a good option in our current system ahead of NRC or Petrov, but I don't see Ireland as a replacement for either, rather the forward 3 mids who are all playing pretty well. Carlos is unlucky not to be in but Dunne and Collins just edge it for me overall. I've a gut feeling Fonz won't make it as a top player, but hopefully I'm wrong.
-
Another 1-0?
-
5-2 to Villa
-
5-2 to Villa
You still having to type really lightly JD?
-
If Ireland is fit play the guy in his preferred position and Ashley on
the left with Super Marc getting a rest ............
It's KMac's last match in charge so I hope he signs off with a win
Reckon on Gabby scoring but Zat Knight getting late equaliser for Trotters
1-1
-
Bolton are without Davies, Jussi Jascwhateverhisnameis and possibly Kevin Davies.
Andy O'Brien will play with Knight at the back.
-
Missing the £10 tickets on this one to take my eldest son for his first term at uni. He will pay for that!
-
Bolton are without Davies, Jussi Jascwhateverhisnameis and possibly Kevin Davies.
Andy O'Brien will play with Knight at the back.
Andy O'Brien is the worst player ever to 'grace' the Premier League - plus we've scored 13 in our last 3 home games against Bolton. I'm going for 5-1 Villa.
-

I actually thought that Paul "dirty ex-Albion bastard" Robinson was the worst player in the PL.
Either way that's half of their back 4 that we agree are extremely shite.
Robinson will give us loads of free kicks tomorrow with his constant fouling. Let's hope we take advantage.
-
Don't forget JLo, is he still there?
-
I hope:
- we win
- we raise our game for our watching new manager
- Bolton play their annual suicidally high line defence against our pace
I think:

I know our last match was another horrendous Stoke City disaster, but if we can play for a spell like we did in that 25 minute chunk of Monday's game, then we could, and should, put tomorrow's game out of sight without any real problems.
-
Don't forget JLo, is he still there?
Yes, he is, but he has not trained this week.
-
According to the OS, there is only 65 days left until kick off. Can't wait.
-

Cahill usually seems to have a stinker against us, but I'm still glad that he's out for the game.
Hopefully Kevin Davies will be too.
Edited as I'm going barmy....
-
This is a banker, Andy O'Brien is totally shit and they have no Jussi in goal, one of the best keepers in the Premier in fact.
Add the fact that Cohan can't play due to Yom Kippur and the possible exclusion of Davies.
3 points for sure.
-
2-0 Ashley and Petrov
-
Anyone know Irelands fitness situation?
-
Coyle has only ever managed to take either Burnely or Bolton to a clean sheet away from home once in the premier league. We normally score at least 4 at home to Bolton. They have their keeper and best defender out, and possibly their best fwd - though elmander does seem to have found his scoring boots.
I reckon we'll get a good win here. Minimum of 3 goals for me.
-
I read we have a clean bill of health, delph and weimann excluded. So sidders and Carew fit it seems
-
We haven't lost a home league game in September since 1992.
I love strange stats like that!
-
5-2 to Villa
You still having to type really lightly JD?
Yeah I am Pete, theres been 650+ aftershocks since the biggie two weeks ago. It's like living on a boat. The beer and shakes must have affected my typing. I mean't 5-1 to Villa.
-
We haven't lost a home league game in September since 1992.

What about that other rarity - a home league game that started at 3 o'clock on a Saturday?
-
Right I would play:
--------------Friedel-----------------
Young, Dunne, Collins, Warnock
---------Sidwell----NRC-------------
Young-------Ireland------Downing
--------------Gabby------------------
Sidwell and Coker to guard the back line, offer some energy and aggression. Let the attacking mid 3 do the creative stuff, and all Ireland total freedom.
I would rather have Albrighton on the pitch than Downing, but think the lad could do with a rest.
-
I reckon 5.0 Villa.
-
Probably won't be as comprehensive as last season, about 3-0 I reckon.
-
With us at full strength and so many of Bolton's key players missing we really ought to win this comfortably.
I'll go for a 2-0 or 3-0 win with Ashley Young bagging a brace and Gabby the other (depending on whether we score 2 or 3 obviously!) ;D
-
Bolton are without Davies, Jussi Jascwhateverhisnameis and possibly Kevin Davies.
Andy O'Brien will play with Knight at the back.
This is amazing Paul. I didn't know you understood the Mikkelians speak (Jussi is from Mikkel in eastern Finland) and you have written it exactly like his father does. The Jascwhateverhisnameis's, a proud tribe, are fed up with their name being simplified to Jääskeläinen. ;D
-
Also, who is the other Davies that is injured?
-
Ii just read on SSN that this is our worst start for 5 years.
-
Ii just read on SSN that this is our worst start for 5 years.
So easy to skew though isn't it, win the next 2 and it'll be among the best starts for X years.
-
I don't care how it comes about but we need a win, and I think the players willl give KM a good send off. Apparently Gary Mac is going to be at the game along with GH, so things are finally coming together. We'll need a few weeks to settle down, but we simply need to be contention for a european position come January, and I hope we are still in the Carling Cup. Then we can attack things on three fronts, and with a player or two added, end the season with something shiny.
Anyway, back to today 2-0 Villa - Carew and Gabby.
-
Any links for the game?
p.s. 3-0 home win.
-
Ireland in for NRC is the only change from Monday.
-
Ireland in for NRC is the only change from Monday.
Well it won't get the best out of Ireland, but against Bolton 'High-Line' Wanderers at home you'd hope it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. You'd hope.
-
Ireland in for NRC is the only change from Monday.
I agree with that. I think NRC deserved a chance but so far he has hardly embraced the opportunity....Time for Ireland to start showing.
-
8 - 2 to the Villa.
-
8 - 2 to the Villa.
I dreamt this last night.
Mind you I also dreamt that the hamster was giving me bad time for not taking him seriously.
