I wouldn't take a draw. What's the point? We need to win. I'd rather us lose and go for the win than draw and just sit on it and play on the counter.

We're better than them in every area, win and we've 9 from 12 with three more winnable games coming up before a tough month. We need as many as we can before October.

I know why go for a draw? Lets go for the win. Stoke have been atrocious so far this season, we certainly should be aiming for 3 points.

Young forward from Ipswich. Looked OK so far. Hard working.

We are looking very, very scruffy. No shape, we seem to want to get rid of the ball as soon as we get it.

And their bench is stronger than ours. That's not right.

Woeful, dire player. We were well ripped off. He never wanted to be a professional footballer, so he has no hunger for the game. You can see that by the way he actually runs away from the ball.

He wanted to play Dancing Queen, and shit songs like that through the night. I really do hope Houllier turfs the little weasel out.

Lol Downing again. Really, he is comical.

Was Downing good at Middlesborough? I seem to remember thinking he was. Sure, he got injured but he is terrible, isn't he?

Woeful, dire player. We were well ripped off. He never wanted to be a professional footballer, so he has no hunger for the game. You can see that by the way he actually runs away from the ball.

He wanted to play Dancing Queen, and shit songs like that through the night. I really do hope Houllier turfs the little weasel out.

The smart thing to do would be to edit this:

Downing looks like an empty shirt at the moment, out left, right or in the centre it just isn't working for him.

Can't help that he' s so chronically one-footed.

Get Ireland on after 60 minutes and put Ash wide left.

Now then:

Gabby's looking a bit quiet, no way in hell will he score tonight...

How are we not Four up?

Cracking first half after we settled. The front four have been fantastic, Gabby especially we've missed him so much.

Ash, Downing and Albrighton been lively. Need to get the second early in the second half 'cos they'll come out stronger and have options on the bench to change it.

After what can only be described as a dull match between two midtable Championship sides, we break away and score. We finally seem to have found a bit of confidence, it's just a shame the referee blew for half time. We need to keep this up second half, keep creating the chances and we'll walk away with the three points.

Special praise for Gabby on two fantastic crosses.

Pass and move. Balls played through the middle. One twos. Is this the Villa I see before me?

Didn't want half time to come

Great celebration by Downing and Ash

It must be truly awful to watch the sort of football Stoke dish up every week. They make us look like Barcelona

However, you just know what will happen second half. We will lose our nerve, get deeper and deeper, concede on about 65 minutes and then they'll win it with a last minute melee in the box!

I think in patches in the first 20 mins we looked to pass it, some of it came off some didnt, but I felt u could see the desire to try and pass it was there while under MON it would of been constant HOOF! imo

Very impressed with what I've seen towards the end of the first half. Downing looks a completely different player. Why can't he play like that all the time? That really frustrates me.

Some great delivery.

I may be blind but one of the first relevant pieces of action I saw from Gabby was his cross for A Young.

We should be at least 2 up.

Why do a short corner in the dying seconds of injury time? Lob the bugger in to the box.

Some good defending. And hopefully SToke will create space for us in the second half.

And Albrighton should be looking at England contention if he carries on.

Though judging by the legacy of our ex players who have made that transition and then gone on to see themselves as Billy Big Bollocks, lets hope he stays under the radar for a while yet.

As it is, they'll probably make a few changes half time and claw it back.

Looks like they have the wind behind them for the 2nd half, which may just help them long throws.  Pessimism aside we have looked so much more threatening since the goal, hopefully we can bag an early chance 2nd half to kill them off.

Stoke have been shite though. They won't be that bad first 15 of second half and they've got options on the bench that'll cause us problems.

We must continue our dominance first 15 of second half and get a second, otherwise we'll regret it.

We've missed a trick there.

Great last 15 minutes, but if we'd nicked a second I reckon that would have been it - no more bets.

Reo Coker involved several times for the goal, plenty of accurate passes, breaking play up. Dear me hope he keeps it up, what with Downing scoring with his head, all we need now is Ashley to hit the target with a cross or a corner and the night will be nigh on perfect.

Talk about a confidence player! Downing is like a different player since he scored! That said, we're like a different team, and showing the potential that no doubt attracted Houllier to the job; the right manager could really do something with this lot!

I think the goal gave us the confidence that we were lacking.

Our bench might look a bit lightweight, but we have got some very capable footballers. Having got twatted 6-0 in your last away league game, i can't really think of many worse places to go than Stoke City.

We looked nervy to start with - and you can understand why - but once we got some confidence, we looked much, much happier, passing it, keeping possession, making the ball do the work.

I just hope those missed chances don't come back to haunt us.

Stoke were clearly the better team for the first half hour but there was certainly some decent movement from us before we scored, particularly Albrighton's shot from the edge of the box.  That was a very promising first half IMO against the type of side we normally struggle against.  Just need to be more clinical.

O'Neil football first 20 - goal - then we look amazing, best 25 mins in a villa shirt for SD.

how good does Albrighton look, and Gabby as a winger fantastic.

hopefully no more hoof ball (thanks for everything MoN (apart from dropping is in the shit like a selfish little bitch) - but your football sucked) - when we play it and move we look great - just imagine if we had a poacher in there - but for now if we keep creating the chances we'll get at least one more - Stoke don't know how to deal with us in this mood, one more will do it

Got to put these to bed now - COY Lions

Yes and we have a winger called Albright.

Earlier Andy Gray asked him if Dunne and Collins will be doing lots of heading, he answered that he used to play with Danny Collins at Sunderland..........

Dwight Yorke used to play for Man United. This makes him an authority on everything. Same with Adebayor. He's played for Arsenal and Citeh. He's Sky's number one choice for next season.

Who picked the bench?

This had better be the last time we see Heskey trot onto the pitch.

KMac has shown a fucking gain why he is not a manager. Pullis makes changes. Kmac waits until it it too late and brings on Emile Fucking Heskey. Would Houlier have sat there doing fuck all when they were dominating us down the wing. Did he notice we played better when Downing was on the left and Albrighton on the right befoee he told them to swap sides again.

Before anybody starts to talk about defensive errors, we lost that game tonight by missing clear chances in front of goal.  Stoke should have been dead and buried (as Dwight might say) after 40 minutes but YET AGAIN we missed our chances.  We will finish mid table ish this season because it this glaring failing in our team.

BUY A FUCKING STRIKER IN JANUARY.

Stoke are cheating bastards. Never was that a foul... Pennant is cheating lowlife.

Typical Stoke; foul, foul and foul again sending long balls into the box. What a bunch of racist fans Stoke are too, no wonder they're like that though being from Stoke - must feel like you're living a suicidal life.

Yeah you cant blame the defence they defended really well against a team that just kept piling the ball in the box law of averages says they were gonna get something from it

Sir Graham says it should have been a draw to be fair, the thing is we should bloody learn to bury our chances and keep going to the end against this bloody lot.

Fair play to Pulis, I didn't realise what had happened to him tonight. Can't believe he was there to be honest after that. It sparked his team him turning up. Best wishes go him and his family

I have seen us play a lot worse than that, I thought we passed it quite well at times.  Not that it's any consolation.

Three minutes of injury time and they score after three and a half.

Penant - cheating little shitbag but Stan should've known better.
Reo Coker - can just about fuck off, what was he doing for their first goal? Waiting for his stream to refresh? I've heard it said he does well at getting in the way, breaking up play, but it only ever seems to be our play he breaks up. Sidwell is shit but Reo Coker isn't fit to tie his laces
