These mugs in the press will listen to anything old bagpuss comes out with
Unconvincing pre season
Should have beaten a directionless Man city - although that is more a comment on city than Spurzzzz
And a piss poor opening 30 mins against some losers from Switzerland (although they will be favourites for the return leg)
Now its resurfacing that A.Young is on Appy Arries radar
Oh and they all lapped up Arry talking up Spurz title challenge this year - how did they all keep a straight face
How are Spurs any better equipped for a title challenge than any club around them - including us, yet the fucking mugs in the media print this shit
Early KO in the Champs league and i have already bet with 2 spurs fans i know that we will finish above them again
the bias does my head in
-
To be fair, they played well against Man City last weekend. A three- or four-goal victory would not have been unfair. Away legs in Europe can be tricky, I don't think we should read too much into that.
Redknapp's comments about challenging for the title were ridiculous, though, and probably stemmed from hubris induced by their admittedly impressive finish last season.
Tottenham can beat anyone when they are 100 per cent. But they play a very intense game. This may cost them when they have to play two games every week (whether in CL or Europa League). One of the things that separates Chelsea and Man Utd from the rest of the supposed title contenders is that they can play at 70 per cent and still win. When Spurs do that, they lose home to Stoke.
-
Tottenham? Thats somewhere souf of watford innit guvnor ?
Bastards!
-
I can't be arsed with getting my knickers in a twist over Redknapp but talk of a title is fanciful to put it mildly.
-
My Father supports Spurs and he's convinced they've always been a bigger club than us. Not that I want to open up to old Villa/Spurs club size debate, but I'm fairly sure he's talking bollocks.
-
The fact that it's taken them since 1992 to recah the dizzy heights of 4th in the Premiership says it all.
-
Tell old saggy chops they are no way near challenging for the title and just hope they get swiss rolled in the second leg.
-

I had this argument wit some clown a few years back. They always bring up the fact that they've had all these so-called great players, yet neglect to mention that it was usually at the back-end of their careers. And as for their trophy list, it's all cups and hardly any titles.
-
Spurs boil my piss.
Never has a team had such over inflated opinions of themselves.
-
I see Harry's had his first "Bare Bones" press conference. My word do I hate him.
-
WE HAVE GOT TO FINISH ABOVE THESE MONKEYS THIS SEASON
-
Total Hypespurt.
Same as it ever was.
-
They're a good side.
The hype comes from the London biased media and Sky.
Spurs are a fine club with a sizeable support. People might not like Redknapp, but he's done a decent job so far.
-
Fuck Spurs.
-
Spurs and Spurs fans have always had delusions thinking that they're bigger and better than they actually are. Take no notice of them, they are just like a skinny man thinking he's some sort of UFC fighter.
-
I hate them too, really do, but it's hard to deny they've got a better squad than us.
-
In true devil's-advocate style, I always find the list in the Fantasy Premier League website quite interesting where fans state their allegiance. This is the allegiance of the fans who have entered the Fantasy Premier League so far:
Team Fans
Man Utd 484,277
Liverpool 343,159
Arsenal 246,520
Chelsea 155,036
Tottenham 102,163
Man City 49,086
Newcastle 48,477
Everton 46,581
Aston Villa 43,953
West Ham 39,409
Sunderland 16,699
Fulham 15,860
Blackburn 15,213
Wolves 14,503
Blackpool 13,762
Birmingham 11,012
Stoke City 10,209
Bolton 10,173
West Brom 7,026
Wigan 5,718
It's obviously totally unscientific. It's entirely possible Spurs may have more fans but I know which is the bigger club. (and I think Blackpool have a lot of floating plucky-underdog support this year)
-
I think Spurszzz have a bigger number of non-local fans than us as they have used the media to their advantage for years to promote their "Big Five", "Spurs Way", "Wonderful footballing-side" bollocks, while we spent years trying to pretend we hadn't won the European Cup as the chairman wasn't in charge at the time.
Doesn't make them a bigger club. It's trophies that count and we've won more than them.
-
The guy I was chatting to at the bar on Tuesday night disappeared up his own ass, his assessment of villa were that we were no bigger than fulham and that they would totally dick young boys. He actually ignored me at the pool wednesday lol!!
-
they would totally dick young boys.
You win the Most Horrible Phrase Used On H&V Award!

Do I get a prize?
-
Tremendous win for them today considering they didn't have a proper striker.
The ******, they're not going away from the top 5. :(
-

Free tickets to Stoke vs Blose.

The c***s, they're not going away from the top 5. :(
Crouch did (or rather didn't!) clear the ball off the line, so surely he counts as a striker? Or didn't he start?
-
As CDVillaFan pointed out, the 'Big 5', 'Spurs Way', etc is maybe something Villa should really be pushing as just another marketing/propoganda tool. The Home of Football (or some such phrase) should certainly be something associated with Villa Park and announced as such at the start of every televised game much as Old Trafford is the Theatre of Dreams.
Obviously, we need to smooth things over with the media post-MON but it's something that needs to be done.
-
I agree. Have always thought we should copyright "Home of Football". Mind you, they used to have a sign saying that at Highbury... by the away end. Cheeky fuckers, Milton Keynes Dons of the 1910s.
-
Who says Villa Park is the home of football? I don't think it's like us to claim things like this. Yes, William McGregor came up with the league concept, but to start branding the stadium like this smacks of something deluded Mancs or dimwitted Spurs fans would do.
-
Well nobody else is going to start shouting about our history if we don't. Then we never increase our fanbase or potential to compete with the top clubs without relying on Randy hand-outs for the rest of our existence.
-
Exactly. If we can't promote ourselves, especially with something that celebrates our proud history and our impact on world football, then who's going to do it for us? It also goes hand in hand with the McGregor statue.
No, not everyone will be happy that we're on the marketing bandwagon but I think it's a statement based on events rather than anything deluded.
-
Spurs were so lucky yesterday (biased ref anyone?)
It pains me to say it, but they are a good side and deserved to be where they ended last year. Old waspface has done a good job, but doesnt mean to say I have to like him, nor is it guaranteed he can repeat it this time. I honestly think with a couple of signings, especially a good striker (maybe Keane) we can be as good.
As for their fans, well.....
-
Thinking about this more scientifically, compare our squad to theirs (I have left out most of the youngsters for now):
Defence, inc GK :
Villa : Friedel, Guzan, Dunne, Collins, Cuellar, Davies, Young, Warnock, Beye, Clark
Spurs : Gomes, Cudicini, King, Woodgate, Bassong, Kaboul, Dawson, Corluka, Hutton, Bale, Assou-Ekotto, Walker, Naughton
Assessment : I would say on first team quality we edge it, they have more second-string players. Mind you, they are about to sign Gallas - hmmm - VILLA NICK IT
Midfield :
Villa : Ireland, Downing, Petrov, Young, Sidwell, Delph, NRC, Albrighton, Salifou, Osbourne
Spurs : Huddlestone, Palacios, Jenas, Lennon, Kranjcar, Modric, Rose, Bently, OHara
Assessment : Closer than I thought, but I would say Spurs are stronger, especially their second string
Strikers :
Villa : Carew, gabby, Heskey, Fonz
Spurs : Defoe, Crouch, Keane, Pavyluchenko
Spurs clearly better. But if we picked up Keane in place of Heskey it would depend on who they can sign in the next 10 days
-
Tottenham are a good side with numerous goal threats. They also have a genuine 'plan B' when things aren't going well, unlike us.
I feel dirty now.
-
Harry Redknapp clearly wasn't in the best of moods.
-
yet he criticises us for our language?
-

Harry Redknapp clearly wasn't in the best of moods.
Hilariousness !

Haha! Outstanding clip!
-
-
-
If he is offended by that I would hate to think what he would say if I gave him a piece of my mind.
-
Twitcher is so thin skinned
-
Oooooooh touchy.
The wheeler dealing twat!
-
and he had the audacity to have a pop at villa fans for our language!
hypocrite...
-
Haha! Dear oh dear. He obviously has a problem with his public image.
-
i would too, if my face looked like a melted candle...
-
Did he say that yesterday?
-
Now we know what to sing when Spuds come to Villa Park! :)
-
Did he say that yesterday?
probably after they shit the bed against Wigan

I hate Tottenham. But I sometimes wish we acted in a similar way. They are a bit of a laughing stock when it all blows up, and are massively hated - but their delusions of grandeur have done them more good than harm in recent years.
They act bigger and better and they get bigger and better.
-

I agree with you to a point. I also hate them intensely.
I wish we tried to sign the type of players they have signed like Modric and some others.
Do I wish we were a bunch of gigantic cocks. No.

Now we've got rid of MON we may sign players like Modric.

Or we may lose 6-0 to newly promoted teams more often and finish below 6th.
