Kevin Mac's programme notes from the OS:
Good afternoon everybody and welcome to Villa Park for our first Barclays Premier League game of the season against West Ham United.
It is due to unforeseen circumstances that I have been given the honour of assuming the role of caretaker manager of the football club.
This will be the first game of a long season in which we will be trying to replicate some of the success of the past few years.
Having been at the football club for 15 years and now having been given this responsibility, I intend to do everything within my power to start the season positively.
I was sad and disappointed when I heard about Martin O'Neill's resignation. He was a very good manager for myself and was supportive and generous in passing on his knowledge to the coaches in the reserves and academy set-ups.
In fact, last pre-season he gave me the opportunity of working with the first team, which provided a valuable insight.
Obviously, I have known most of the players here in my capacity as reserve team coach but working in close conjunction with him then and throughout his four years at the club will have helped me in identifying the strengths of the squad now.
Our pre-season was somewhat staggered by the late arrival of some of the players from the World Cup but this gave the opportunity to some of the younger players to impress. The experience of playing alongside the senior players will hopefully enhance and speed up their development and in time, I hope, they will make as great a contribution to the team as those who have been regularly involved for some time.
Today we welcome West Ham with their new manager, Avram Grant, and his backroom staff which includes a good friend of mine, Kevin Keen.
The Hammers, like ourselves, have a proud history and their present group of players will demand our utmost respect and attention during this afternoon's game.
We will need to be very focused and our concentration levels will have to be of the highest order.
Allied to your vociferous support, this will give us the best opportunity to compete and try to win the game.
Finally, I know what kind of atmosphere you are capable of generating here at Villa Park and I hope this afternoon will be no different from the first minute to the last.
Your loud and positive support could make a vital difference to our team.

So Milners starts
-
Interesting line up.
-
Yeah definately hopefully score 2 goals in the first half maybe give some fringe a runout second. NEED TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING!
-
Quite a few youngsters in the squad today, just shows the faith Kevin Mc has in the players he has been looking after.
-
If asexpected WHU play 5 across the middle, it makes sense, I just wonder where the goals are going to come from with Gabby out. Saying that, I'm going to stick with my 4-1 prediction.
Come on my Villa boys!
-
WEST HAM LINE-UP: Green; Tomkins, Reid, Upson, Ilunga; Boa Morte, Parker, Noble, Kovac, Faubert; Cole. Subs: Stech, Gabbidon, Barrera, Spector, Sears, Piquionne, Diamanti.
Note:
The Hammers Out (Hitz)
-
Certainly looks like 4-5-1 for them
-
Good side. Like it. AY playing the free role sounds good. He and Carew link well, so I'm hoping we play some good stuff. I've no worries about Milner. He'll always give 100%.
-
The hammers side looks pretty poor to be honest. We should be winning this game, if the players perform.

With that line-up I expect nothing but a Villa win. That looks pretty average...
-
Nice touch with the poll, Toplad.
-
thanks!
-
Fair enough Milner's in. He's atop player, and no point sitting him out if he can contribute. It would be a complete freak if he suffered a nasty injury, and he's generally been very healthy throughout his career.
Looks like we'll play 4-4-1-1 with Ash in the hole behind Carew, Albrighton and Downing switching flanks with Milner and Petrov in the middle. I expect Petrov to play a slightly more advanced role than he did under MON, but mainly a holding position. Good to see Clark get the nod. He's got all the qualities to make it.
Let's roar them on!!!!
-
No Delfounesco?
-
Great to see Albrighton given the nod along with Clarke. Quite surprised to see Milner in the team. I do hope, despite everything, the fans are behind him and he gives his all.
Just hope we get through injury free.
-
"Hello and welcome to Villa Park"
God that always makes the hairs on the back of neck tingle.
-
No Delfounesco?
I was thinking that. Interesting that he has selected Weimann ahead of him

Nicely done by K-Mac. He seems a top bloke who's coming off a very difficult week. I believe we'll see a much more open Villa display, free of stress. It will be a nice little gift for the new boss.
-
Villa to win 2-0 with a brace from Milner.
-
Milner to score
footballs funny like that
come on the Villa
computer dont fail me now
-
No Delfounesco?
I was thinking that. Interesting that he has selected Weimann ahead of him
I thought Fonz looked a little tired against Benfica when he came on. He's not had much rest really when you think of it and he's still very young. Weimann has had a very good pre-season, so it's a good choice. Plus, nice to know we've got some options amongst the reserves.
-
Would be interesting if Kevin gets the assitant role to who ever takes over wouldn't have to worry then for all the new coaching staff needing time to get to know the players.
-

Are you hoping for him to get injured today, so you can keep your login name?

Weimann's a new one on me... Promising?

I think if he didn't get the main job, the new bloke will bring in his own people. Kevin Mac has a job for life down there along with Sid, and Tony McAndrew, so he'll just go back to developing the reserves. Something he is quite brilliant at.
-
streams any one?
-

My thoughts exactly. I think once he's had a taste of first team management it'll be be difficult for him to step back down to the Reserves.

Very much so. Not that big, but he's brave and willing to have a go. I've liked what I've seen of him in the reserves and in this pre-season.
-
Spurs - M City finished 0-0 still no preimer league goal yet maybe we can change that and get the first!
-

Ha ha... TBH I was going to add "...but this is the Villa" to the end but decided against it!
Seriously though I much prefer our team to thiers so yeah, as you say "Come on boys!!!"
-
C'mon villa.
Exciting looking line up
-
dont see the point of playing milner, there must be some doubt over the transfer
He was our best player last year, is still currently our player?
And, COME ON VILLA!
-
That's pretty much a 4-1-4-1, very attacking. Pretty ballsy if you ask me.
-

Arse burgers. That looked great too.
Stream quality I mean not the shit on the pitch...
-
great start - WHU are all over the place.
-
Look at the BBC live table. We're top of the league! Give McDonald the job!
-
Just got here, how was reception for Milner?
-
We're top of the league etc...
Carew should have scored that.

-
wow we are playing really well. So very positive
-
Not a bad start.
-
Great stuff so far. We're playing with freedom and Ash is picking up great positions.
Plus, I'm beginning to hope the Milner deal falls through and we keep him.
-
We are well on top need to score.
-
WHAM are a shambles!
-
Fuck my honeymoon, it's time to watch the Villa! Come on you Lions!
-
fuckity fuck fuck....
that should have been a sending off looking at the replay
-
Green should have gone.
-
We're absolutely murdering them.
-
If Downing keeps dangling his foot in like that he's going to get it broken again!!
-
Albrighton looks brimming with confidence today. Downing looks on it too. If we keep it up and get the first in this half we could dish out a tonking. Come on Villa!
-
Yeah I thought Green might of been red carded. Thought at least a free-kick
-
Luke Young seems to have a new lease of life......
-
playing really well as if some of the players are trying to prove a point.
-
goal!!!!!!!!!!!
-
get the fuck in
DOWNING!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Fucking get in!!!
-
Get in!!!!!!!
-
This is as good as I can remember us at VP for ages. Seriously.
-
Carew should have scored really, first touch was poor!
-
This is as good as I can remember us at VP for ages. Seriously.
Yeah, this is good stuff...
-
Great shot by Albrighton!
-
He was offside, but who gives a fuck. Come on boys..... Lets torture Green now, he is shitting his shorts.
-
Is there someone who can change the poll to second goal scorer?
-
This is as good as I can remember us at VP for ages. Seriously.
Yes. Fucking brilliant. Probably selective memory but can't remember the last time we started this brightly and forced the issue from the off and bagged first at home.
-
How dangerous is young Marc. God Almighty what a player.
-
We're absolutely battering them. They look a team in trouble too, poor, poor squad. But we're doing as we should, and taking them to the sword.
Every player for us looks like they're on a fresh start, playing with freedom, and wanting to play. Luke Young looks like his old self. Clearly he was at odds with Martin.
-
Carew Carew Carew is on fire!
-
Blackpool winning at Wigan.
-
Hahaha get in. We are really missing Martin aren't we? Lol
-
Hahahaaha wtf happened to Howard then? B'burn 1-0 Everton...
-
This is very encouraging.
-
Mods is there anyway you can turn off the constant 'There may have been further posts since your last?'

Afternoon all, loving our performance so far. What a refreshing change to see us play like this at home.
-
Clark looks very good indeed. We can sell Curtis I think. No point having his wages as 4th choice. Clarky's more than good enough, and his left foot adds something too.
-
How the fuck isn't that a penalty.
-
That was a foul but outside the box.
-
What is it with us and fucking bottler referees? Two clear pens so far.
-
These ref's are absolute crap, that WAS a penalty!
-
I would agree both were fouls, but to be fair probably both were outside the box.
-
anyones stream cut off?? any others about?
-
Should of been a free-kick in a great position!
-
The youngsters seem pretty schooled in pass and move. Well done Sid.
-
We need a second here.
Second now and this could get ugly.
-
Blues are losing - ha ha
-
Milner's having a good game. Not holding back in the tackle either.
-
Are West Ham sponsored by that bloke who had his knob cut off by his wife?
-
We could do with another whilst we're on top. Come on Villa.
-
Not sure what to make of Milner playing. It does suggest that neither Milner nor Villa are desperate for him to go to Citeh.
-
Green's having a mare. Class save from AY aside, he's gonna balls up some more. Oh yes.
-
Definitley need another goal I think. Hopefully Albrighton - in my fantasy team and he's already got an assisst.
-
Anyone know where I'll find audio-only comm? I'm on dial ... up
-
I'm beginning to wonder whether a lot of this squad were unhappy with MON. They're playing like a weight has been lifted!!!
-
we look really good going forward, Ashley looks superb in the hole.
-
Milner's playing well, Albrighton too. Glad I got MarcA in my fantasy league team, a snip at 4.5mill.
Even beelzebub is being complimentary about us on the stream commentary.
-
http://livesporthq.50webs.com/ch1.html
Working ok.
Albrighton is doing well.
-
Green's having a mare. Class save from AY aside, he's gonna balls up some more. Oh yes.
His save from Young was superb
-
Downing is playing really well too.
-
I haven't been this excited about a homegrown player for years. Albrighton ooks class, I have a semi!!!!
-
We've gone back a bit into cross-cross-cross mode. Need to get a little bit more imaginative.
-
JC should have already had a hat-trick.
-
sop://broker.sopcast.com:3912/82153 superb stream
-
11 corners and only one nil up. Not very encouraging, is it? What are the new team doing in training? It should be their bread and butter, etc.
-
Milner's been excellent. I'll miss him if the deal, as expected goes through. Our movement looks so much free-er than last year. Having one person playing off the front man really helps open up the space, and the fullbacks are bombing on with freedom. Petrov is making us tick nicely. Good stuff.
Carew looks a little rusty, otherwise he'd have a hattrick by now. I expect him to net before this game out though.
-
JC should have already had a hat-trick.
That will be his epitaph.
-
Is it just my TV or does it seem very quiet today?
-
We're slipping into old habits! Come on guys, always pass if you can, the hoof is the last option!
-
The boss (sic - they meant boos) for Manchester City-target James Milner appear to have been silenced for the time being. Which I guess tends to happen when your team are winning 1-0.
I haven't heard any boos???
-
I am loving watching this. Hope Randy is too.
Shame about the empty seats.
-
Harewood has scored Blackpool's 2nd.....
-
Harewood scores for Blackpool. Ha!
-
Is it just my TV or does it seem very quiet today?
Was just thinking the same thing. Then again, I am half-deaf myself.
-
GET IN!
-
STAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Get in!
-
PETROV!!!
-
Petrov HEAD!!! WOW
-
Awesome goal, I now have a full boner :)
-
What a time for the bloody stream to die!
-
Class. And delighted for Stan the man, he's been superb.
-
Bloody typical, my stream went just before the goal!
-
http://livesporthq.50webs.com/ch1.html
Working ok.
Albrighton is doing well.
Thats stopped, any others?
-
What a fantistic move.
-
Anyone with working links???
-
stream conked out help
-
Petrov, YESSSSSSSSSS, great header! The man with more shots without scoring than any player last season. He should use his head more, ha ha!
-
Bloody hell, missed the goal!
-
I do believe that we are top of the league!

"There's only one Randy Lerner".
-
Petrov and Harewood score within 2 minutes of each other ... what is going on?
Never mind, Kevin MacDonald's Claret and Blue Army!
-
Spocast Channel - 82153
But it's a bit hit and miss.
What odds a 5-0 opening day hammering?
Wham look really, really poor.
-
Awesome start to the new season. We're really playing well.
I remember last season when we had a 0-0 stalemate against West Ham under MON...
-
Harewood got his second Blackpool 3-0 up
-
League table looks old school
Villa
Blackpool
Wolves
-
No we ain't now!!! It's Blackpool! Haha wot odds would u get on that result!
-
We're not too bad are we?
Avram Grant needs some advice on his colours. Grey? With that complexion?
-
Harewood got his second Blackpool 3-0 up
bloody Harewood
-
I don't mind not being top if it's Blackpool who beat us to it.

I know its early doors but..........................the future is bright, the future is still claret and blue.
ONeil who? :)
-
great 1st half performance, could and should have scored more.
-
Brilliant first half.
-
I'm on http://www.hqstreamz.net/ch1.html, which has been reliable so far.
-
What was Petrov doing that far forward, he should be fined he is our defensive midfielder! LOL
-
superb so far, albrighton has looked excellent, good movement, a nice mixture of passing ranges and very direct in our attacking..
-
2-0 h/t, no o'niell and the best performance from all 11 players in last 2 seasons
-
We are playing free flowing football!!!!! I can't believe it.
The Petrov goal was fantastic!
Albrighton looks very good indeed
-
match thread seems much slower than those last season
-
Albrighton looks like he's been in the topflight for years.
Credit to MON in so far as we were playing with five in midfield pre season, Ash was playing in the hole and Albrighton out wide. But would he have gone with that when the serious stuff got underway?
-
Impressive start. Be interesting to see if they sit back on the lead second half like they have done traditinally under o Neill.
-
What a start. Still problems, lapsed into old habits during the middle of the half (I suppose he's had less than a week to work them out), but the opening 15 minutes was so enthralling. And unexpected! I was expecting to tune in, see some decent moves maybe, slack defending perhaps, heads down, but no. What a start.
-
Clouds well and truly lifted.
That is some of the best football we''ve seen at VP in a long time. I said in the pre-match thread I expect Petrov to play a little further up, and he is. Because he has it in him. I thought the two young kids looked very assured indeed. West Ham don't like us running at them and the nice thing is when we scored we didn't just sit back. We went looking again.
ps. Very happy for Marlon Harewood. I thought the criticism at him was unfair during his time here. He didn't come in to save us, he came to be part of things. I hope he helps Blackpool this season. Great start by him.
-
This is shit! We should have eight by now, can't believe we are playing so poorly.
Doom, gloom, moan, blah, blah, blah...
Couldn't resist, this thread is far too positive. Can't be a H&V thread!
-
I wouldn't say it's our best performance in two years at all.
We've been good, but considering West Ham have been atrocious, us looking good hasn't been tough. We're sitll suffering from poor retention of the ball, and the same old 'if it doesn;t work, try it again and again and again' tactic of banging our heads on the wall. Just give it to the wingers to whip it in.
It's not been as tedious as we were at home last year, by any stretch of the imagination, but we've been far from brilliant, there's a lot of improvement to be had.
-
Two players who got most of the stick last season putting us two up, all we need is Heskey to come on and get a third and the day would be complete.
-
they are having a right go at the ref saying Downing was offside but as the ball was struck he was behind the goalie, surely that means he is onside... or does it??
-
Clouds well and truly lifted.

Echo all of that, except a slight point - Petrov's not further forward, our huge amount of possession means he's more able to make late runs while basically playing most of the time as a holding player. And what a late run.
-
Well, I can feel my pre season blues lifting already. Some superb performances from the boys. Watching on sopcast channel 98534. Excellent picture, no english commentary but heh?
More of the same in 2nd half and it's back to mocking the porno dwarf...lol
-
Bloody brilliant! I know West Ham traditionally play a similar, open style to us but we're all over them. Who makes way when gabby is fit? None of them deserve to be dropped. In particular, Clark & Young (L) look great at the back, and Albrighton is very fast. Ace!
-
Agreed Toronto, Marlon is a trier and seemed to put in a shift when he was here. Hope he does well at Blackpool.
-
Just joining this thread now, after watching the first half near the beach in Sri Lanka. Well, what can I say? I don't want to get carried away or anything, but under the circumstances we've started very well indeed. Don't the players look like they've had a massive weight lifted from their shoulders? Doesn't the football lack a certain huff/puff, replacing it with verve, drive and - dare I say it - freedom? Those players look like they've been liberated from some kind of tyranny, and long may it continue.
-
Great 1st half. Who the fcuk needs Martin "toys out the pram" O'Neil?
-
Harewood got the assist for the first goal as well
-
match thread seems much slower than those last season
I think we're all too interested watching the match now.
-
Just joining this thread now, after watching the first half near the beach in Sri Lanka.
Well your day seems ok.
-
Match thread is slow because everybody is at Villa park!!!
Fucking ell...What a half! I am here in Brazil, 11am kickoff, cachaca to wash breakfast down with, on a low bandwith internet, that was dead 24 hours prior to the game, but got backup 5 mins before kickoff. (I go write later, what i want to say here - as I dont want to jinx the game)
Sitting on the veranda with 30 degrees, beer cachaca, and wife serving me anything i shout for...2 great goals...And Albrighton involved in both...that shot for the first goal was fantastic. I think it would have sverved into the post, and maybe into goal...the workrate from Ashley Young...never ever seen him do so much all over the pitch...what a star!...And even Milner...(happy that crowd is aplauding him...)
COME ON YOU VILLA!!!
-
they are having a right go at the ref saying Downing was offside but as the ball was struck he was behind the goalie, surely that means he is onside... or does it??
No he was miles offside.
Just seen Sunderland's goal against Blues, penalty given for a challenge that not only won the ball but looked outside the box. Most unfair.
Bwa hah hah hah

I thought the two young kids looked very assured indeed. West Ham don't like us running at them and the nice thing is when we scored we didn't just sit back. We went looking again.
ps. Very happy for Marlon Harewood. I thought the criticism at him was unfair during his time here. He didn't come in to save us, he came to be part of things. I hope he helps Blackpool this season. Great start by him.
Echo all of that, except a slight point - Petrov's not further forward, our huge amount of possession means he's more able to make late runs while basically playing most of the time as a holding player. And what a late run.
He is being given licence to come further forward which you rarely saw in the past few years. He was told to sit back and allow the likes of Barry or Milner to move forward. It created a big gap in our midfield which the better teams exploited. What I mean by further up is that the midefield is playing a lot more tighter and so it keeps the pressure up.
And as for our best display, it may not be our best, but West Ham being crap is down to us making them look that way.
-
we are playing brilliantly
I dont think I have seen us play this well in ages
very positive wide play-we have 4 players who can really cross the ball
and I can't believe petrov's run and header :D
-
How do Villains?! Just about to head back home from the Edinburgh Festival. How we doing? What have I missed first half? Be very interested to know how Kev Mac likes his football to be played and hows Milner?
-
I haven't enjoyed a half of football that much for quite a while.
Good to hear support for the Chairman and support (or certainly no audible boo's) for Milner.
-
More of the same please.
-
Absolutely shite.
Sack the manager.
Lerner out.
Oops, wrong season.
-
After the last few days was feeling pretty aprehensive about today but the lads have all done brilliant and I am enjoying it. Lets hope we can carry on in the same way 2nd half.
UTV.
-
You can only beat whats put in front of you... and we are doing it superbly... no slacking off for the second half!
-

Couldn't be righter.
-
I think Ireland can replace Milner in this system quite well if he brings the right attitude to Villa Park. The added £18m will be nice too.
-
Playing brilliantly so far Albrighton having a great game anyone know why delfonso's not on the bench is he injured? ps harewoods scored 2 for blackpool lol
-
One thing I've found very interesting is the full backs not only getting forward but coming into inside-right and inside-left positions. It's working well.
-
Just joining this thread now, after watching the first half near the beach in Sri Lanka.
Well your day seems ok.
Well, it was a little bit cloudy for an hour or two earlier.
-
So unlucky Downing.
-
Oops. Well, at least we're exciting!
Great effort Stew, by the way.
-
pretty impressed with Clark today

The heart bleeds ;).
-
what's got amongst downing?? is he actually trying to score? =O
-
God, look at that monsoon.
-
I don't think anybody will be complaining about the rain if we can repeat the first half performance.
-
There is a Florida thunderstorm in Aston...
-
Looking a bit open still.
-
Come on villa. Big John needs to get his head up.
-
http://livesporthq.50webs.com/ch1.html
Nevermind wrong thred. Wrong forum.
-
We're looking a bit ropey in defence.
Hammers have woken up a bit this half.
Might be an idea to get NRC on to shore things up a bit?
-
http://livesporthq.50webs.com/ch1.html
-
West Ham should have scored.
-
That's two chances the Spammers have had in two minutes. Come on Villa, get hold of the ball.
-
Can we have the real Warnock back please.
-
With a natural goal scorer we'd be a really formidable prospect going forward.
-
We need to get back into this. Try keeping the ball a bit Villa.
-
http://livesporthq.50webs.com/ch1.html
Ah merci bien!
-
I have a stonker of a thunder storm going on at the moment.
-
That was sloppy by Warnock, a simple 5 yard pass!
-
There's some full bloodied challenges flying in at the mo.
-
Can I just say that the technique on the cross from Albrighton there was ridiculous.
-
I have a stonker of a thunder storm going on at the moment.
Same here hope my stream holds up........
-
Ash doesn't look good.
-
What. A. Goal.
Fare thee well James. I salute you.
-
Jimmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
Good on you mate!
-
Milner!!!
Beautiful work from Albrighton.
Please god let the Milner deal fall through.
-
What a fucking goal!!!!!!!!!
-
Albrighton or Morley?
-
3-0 brilliant from Albrighton, great finish Milner.
-
The future does the business, the past finished in style.
Brilliant.
-
Milner has to stay, Albrighton you are a f**king star!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Fair play Milner, regardless of what happens with your transfer, you haven't shirked anything today.
-
It had to be Jimmy!
-
Fair play to Milner. Always the professional on the pitch.
-
Great play and vision by Albrighton to set that goal up.
-
Albrighton is fucking sick! Lets all go fcking mental lets all go fcking mental lalala!
So yeah... do you still wanna leave Milner?!
-
Cracking goal. See Stan with the word in Milner's ear there: 'stay with us and see this through!'
-
Albrighton is a god!
I only saw that a goal, but who scored? The feed went
Edit: Fuck - quick post when others are posting . i get a warning that others have posted...so what?
Edit2: Two more times
-
Can we please take Albrighton off and not play him until the window closes.
-
Dear Man City,
The price just went up on Jimmy.
And no, you can't have Albrighton next year.
Regards, Randy L.
-
Albrighton should have been given more opportunity last year.
3-0 up and still pressing - terrific
-
Super Marc Albrighton.
-
Guys I'm welling up on the train here! Keep it up you are my eyes and ears!
-
We have been quality today, all of them.
-
Albrighton looks class. when do you think City will buy him?
-
Really excellent. Albrighton has carried on from pre-season. He's a proper winger
I honestly don't who this one touch team is we're watching but I wish we could play like that!
-
Playing like the tyranny is over.
-
Sensational stuff.
-
Can't believe this is the same Villa as last season. The vision, movement and range of passing has been something else. I hope we can keep this style up for the season.
-
Proud of the lot of them. This is what was needed to prove a point.
-
I can't believe McDonald hasn't made any substitutions. Shocking.
-
"It's testimonal match football by Villa as they taunt West Ham".
Martin fucking who?
-
Albrighton attacks players and commits them, absolutely class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Wow who'd of thought we had all these players who can play the game brilliantly.
-
What was Milner's reception like, anybody?
-
Just so so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Shame the stream I was watching in English has vanished, wish i'd paid more attention in French class now.
-
John Carew's GPS has been off today. They'll be laughing at that tonight
-
Shocking miss Carew.
-
Carew what were you doing, absolutely great cross by number 19 (Petrov)?
-
That's more like it - Carew doing his Ivanhoe impression by missing a sitter!
-
Ugly MLT has just said JC has just headed 35 yards wide with an open goal at his mercy!
-
Bit poor from JC there.
Hasn't been at the races today.
-
Carew has missed, yet again. If I had to find a negative in today's performance, he would be it. But I don't 'cause we've been the pups nuts.
-
Blatant penalty.
-
Albrighton is fucking brilliant.
How many times have we hit the woodwork today?
-
lmao nearly 4... how did that not go in.
-
hit the woodwork 3 times, Carew missed a sitter, we could and possibly should have 8 today
-
HOW in God's name was that not a penalty?
-
I see MON taught Kevin well on how (not) to make substitutions.
-
I hope Milner gets a round of applause at the end.
-
I'm hoping JC gets one today looks like he needs a lift!!
-
its great to see us carry on attacking when leading... means that we arent inviting the opposition onto us...
-
Goal attempts so far after 80 mins, Villa 27 Wet Spam 7.
Yes, 27!
Twenty-fucking-seven!
-
lmao nearly 4... how did that not go in.
Not that I don't want us to score another, but I'm half relieved for Green it didn't
-
albrighton has been frigging incredible. I can't believe he went to the same high school as me, im sure he didn't gain any of his football skills from the teachers there!!
-
I cannot remember this one sided a game at VP (in our favour off course) in a long, long time. Yes, West Hame have been shit, but that's mostly down to us. The sun is back out at VP in a number of different ways.
-

Played some fantastic football today. How refreshing to see it.
-
I'm hoping JC gets one today looks like he needs a lift!!
He'll be fine.
-
Why did O'Neill never play Albrighton?
Because he was a twat?
-
West Ham have been woeful. I've always wondered why everyone thinks Grant is such a good manager (I know this is just one game, but still). Carew needs to find his shooting boots.

dirty challenge that on Milner
-
Milner says goodbye and gets a decent send off.
-
Milner getting good reception as he goes, by James.
-
Hope that's not Milner's last appearance in a Villa shirt.
-
Albrighton has been very good but Clark deserves a mention, he hasn't put a foot wrong all day.
-
Made sense taking Milner off before he got injured. Brave (but the right) decision to play him today.
-
Villa have been a joy to watch. How long's it been since I was able to say that?
-
Bye James, and thank you.
-
Bye Jimmy - thanks for your contribution today and whilst you've been here.
Hope you stay with us, but if not good luck. A model pro.
-
I hope he takes Albrighton off for him to get a great reception
-
Nice reception there for Jimmy... he's been class again, it'd be great actually if he stays, but I doubt that's gonna happen. Oh look, is that Reo-Coker... haven't seen that chap fo a while, weclome back Nigel.
-
What an enjoyable afternoon watching Villa, really really been impressed.
-
Wee Barry!
-
nice to see milner get the reception his performance deserved... he was superb today, and that was a fantastic decision by the manager to play him, and then take him off...
-
Why did O'Neill never play Albrighton?
Because he was a twat?
I'm sorry but that is completely wrong. Albrighton like some other kids at Villa have come through with great patience. You simply cannot level youth development as being something MON did poorly. He has given the kids a chance and they have to be ready to step up. Albrighton played in every pre-season game, so you couldn't be more wrong with that statement.
-
Albrighton has been a delight to watch, what a cracking player we have there.
-
Bannan for Albrighton - what a rousing adulation is he goes off.
One star leaves (Milner) and another one is born (MarcA).
-
Martin Who???? 8)
-
Brilliant all the players coming off are getting a standing ovation and rightly so.
-
Hope that's not Milner's last appearance in a Villa shirt.
I really, really don't want him to go, £50 million at least!!!!!!!!!!
-
Nice touch giving Weimann and Bannan their debuts.
-

Apart from the fact they virtually never saw league football apart from the occasional sub appearance in his time at the club?
-
Downing MOM????? He's played well, but Albrighton has been incredible
-
Bannan for Albrighton - what a rousing adulation is he goes off.

The problem being he's a winger. Who do we move into the centre, Young or Downing? Both pretty lightweight, and far from good alternatives to Milner in the centre.
-
Downing man of the match? Sponsors must have been too busy eating their free grub after the first goal.
-
I thought Milner was brilliant today.
-
looking forward to MOTD tonight :)
-
ireland would take his place

We could play 4-2-3-1, with reo-coker and petrov and then downing, young, albrigton in front of them.
-

Absolute garbage, Albrighton first, closely followed by Milner!
-
Albrighton, Clark, Bannan - three academy grown players, all 20 years old or so. To have them all playing might suggest a team in trouble having to get the kids out to play.
But clearly this is not so. Proud history, glowing bright future.
-
Stream gone but who cares. Great performance and the youngsters look very settled. Onwards and upwards.
-
I thought Downing was superb; got the opener hit the woodwork twice, great all round play. Milner would have been my MOM mind.
-
Although Downing had a good game!

Because they are kids and you can't just throw them in. You have to blood them gradually and he has. Could they have been given a little more exposure? Possibly. But they are youth players just learning the game, and loan spells at lower league clubs is the way to go. Albrighton last season when he did play was nothing close to this. That's down to a good system knowing when to introduce them. MON would have taking advice from Sid, McAndrew and KM over this. The kids coming through are a testament to the whole operation.
-
Brilliant only way to describe it.
-
what was the attendance?
-
O'Neill could have used the youngsters a lot more. His unwillingness to make changes in games was one of his major faults.
-
Fantastic performance.
Hats off to all the team.
-
That was brilliant.
-
Today couldn't of gone any more perfect... well done to our players and Kevin Macdonald! I'm very happy after Monday's drama.
-
Just superb all round.
-
Great result even better performances by Alb,Clark, Miln, Downing. Onwards and upwards. ;D
-
Top game by Milner. I think we will miss him.
-
excellent performance... good to see us not drop deep to protect what we had, and subsequently got more goals, and look very exciting and threatening...

Sorry TV but I don;t think Albrighton would have got near the team today and for most games this season if MON were still in charge. I recall he had a pretty decent pre-season last year but barely got a look in. As with many other things O'Neill was over cautious in his use of the talented youngsters like Delfounso, Albrighton and Delph.
-
Extremely proud of them all today! Great performance. Can't believe what a difference a nice bit of passing can make.

I agree that it's down to our set up, which is very different to MoN getting any acclaim for them. Personally I would have liked to see Albrighton, Fonz in particular get more game time in the league last season. MoN primarily stuck with his chosen few, hence my slightly tongue in cheek "twat" comment. At numerous other clubs their blooding would have started sooner.
-
Absolutely superb performance. If Carew had the right boots on we'd have been looking at 6 or 7, and 3 off the woodwork.
-
Well done Super Kev, Marc Albrighton and the rest of the lads, even Jimmy Milner. You actually made me thoroughly enjoy watching Villa today, which is something I haven't been able to say for ages.
-
Absolutely brilliant performance today by Villa. I haven't been so excited in a while. Great pace and they were attacking from the getgo.
5 things I took away from this match:
1. KM should have a couple more chances to show this is his job to lose.
2. Albrighton needs to be in this line-up every game. He gives them chances and speed up front that Carew and Young (plus Gabby when he returns) needs.
3. Milner can go and I hope he knows from today that Villa will be just fine. Especially if/when we get Ireland.
4. Clark should play - I would love to see a backline somehow of Dunne, Clark, Sidwell and ? (not Warnock).
5. Why does everyone rate Warnock?? He has bad field perception, looks clumsy and is slow. I honestly think we can do better at LB.
-
what was the attendance?
36,604

Brilliant result!
But I refused to cheer any of the goals, because they were scored by the three players I do not like. If only it had been a Heskey hat-trick.

Thanks for that, they will all be happy!

Sorry, I meant Collins.
-

Sorry, I meant Collins.
Understandable I guess, they are both VERY ginger.
-
to be honest, if it was ireland playing instead of milner today, he would have been in heaven, it was his type of game
so if we keep playing like this, and milner does go, and we do get ireland...
