Title: Vienna
Post by: frank on August 09, 2010, 12:51:37 PM
This was probably discussed this time last year - I can't remember.
If you want to cover all your travel in Vienna beforehand, you can get a 24-hour or 48-hour travelcard online. There's a supplement for the transfer from the airport and back, which you can include on your travelcard. I've paid €13.60 for 48 hours unlimited travel, including the airport transfer. Here's the site: Link (https://shop.wienerlinien.at/index.php/)

Thursday August 12 (9am to 1pm): On sale to 2010-11 season card holders who attended three or more away fixtures in 2009-10 season*
Thursday August 12 (1pm to 6pm): On sale to 2010-11 season card holders*
Friday August 13 (9am to 1pm): On sale to supporters with home OR away booking history in the 2009-10 season*
Friday August 13 (1pm to 6pm): On general sale*

*Strictly one ticket per client reference
Hmmm. Three of us have already booked travel and accommodation and we all fall within the " supporters with home OR away booking history in the 2009-10 season" category.

Anyone who went last year have any idea what number we had then and what we took over there? Would prefer to get this on our booking history, but am thinking it might be safer to call in favours from S/T holding friends who attended over 5 aways last season. Am sure they'd appreciate it on their record too.

There was lots of room last year. I'm pretty certain we didn't sell out. Vienna's a marvellous city, but I shouldn't think that everyone who went last time will want to repeat the trip so soon.
The problem with using non-travelling friends' reference numbers is that when you book you have to give the ticket office the passport details, travel details and accommodation of every applicant. You're taking a bit of a chance if you then pass these tickets on to other people.

Ah. My one concern if the tickets are very cheap would be people buying them just in case but not using them so they're already at the front of the queue for future rounds should we progress.

Don't see how they can demand the travel and accommodation details however when they've gone to great pains to stress that they wouldn't advise people to book their travel and accommodation until they've secured their match ticket. Says it on the site and was told the same over the phone.

Anyway, thanks frank!

I've just booked my match ticket and they did ask for flight details etc, but you're probably right - I'd have got it if I'd said I hadn't yet arranged my travel. But you do have to give the passport details of the person whose ref you're using.
The ticket office confirm that our allocation is 400.

I purchased on behalf of someone else last year (gave my info etc then gave him the ticket) and there were no problems at all.

As of 14:30 this afternoon we'd sold 27, so don't worry about it selling about. It didn't last year, we had around 250-300 there.

frank - did they want full name, passport number, expiry date and date of birth? Any of the above they didn't ask for? Anything in addition to this?

Just passport number (though, if you're booking for others, it might be a good idea to get date of birth and expiry date, just in case)

Early kick-off (6.45 local time). Plenty of time for a nice biergarten after the game!

My brother's working first thing on Thursday before getting a flight from Brum (via Zurich) to Vienna and arriving about 2.5 hrs before the game. I think he'll just be glad to make it to the ground for kick-off never mind anything else!

Well done, Guy. Did you ask them how many we've sold?

I did. They said "quite a few". Very non-committal!

Got straight through at 09:01 and on the two occasions I've had to call back since so I'm guessing the phones are hardly red-hot. Did say that they hand't received the tickets yet tho which is a tad worrying.

I should perhaps add that, if you've added the cost of the airport transfer to your travelcard, it'll tell you on the ticket whether you've paid for the fast rail link (CAT) or the normal service (ÖBB, route S7), which in fact isn't much slower and is a lot cheaper. Don't get on the CAT unless it says this on your ticket!

Thanks for that frank. Waiting to hear from our compadres whether they want to do a day trip to Bratislava or not and then will probably end up getting the weekly pass, seeing as we arrive early tomorrow and don't fly back until Saturday evening. Only 40cents more than the 72-hour pass and means we don't have the grief of getting single tickets or another expensive 24-hour ticket on Saturday.

I think Villa got them on Friday. I picked mine up at the W Ham game, but yours should have been posted on Saturday.

Ours haven't arrived. We've just phoned them and we have to collect them from the ground 90 minutes (well not before 90 minutes) before the game.

Bloody nuisance.

Villa haven't handled this very well. They could have posted your tickets on Saturday and you'd have got them today at the latest. How annoying!

Frank, they said they posted them on FRIDAY.

I'm not sure whether to risk a later train tomorrow, after the postman has been, or whether to just leave it until Thursday.  Very annoying.

Is there a place in the centre to meet before or after the game?  My hotel is just outside the old centre.

Fash56, Frank is your man. I just follow Jon who has arranged with Frank where we will meet.  I remember last season sitting in a sort of square with a couple of restaurants.  No, it's no good I'm useless.

Are you on your own?
