Title: 21 years ago today - Villa to unveil new signing....
Post by: Chico Hamilton III on August 04, 2010, 02:08:07 PM
...I can almost hear the ripple of apathy around Villa Park as he marches out of the tunnel to face the Villa faithful.

On another note, does anyone else remember this pre-season game against Hibs???

Football: Villa clear way for Heath debut

BYLINE: JOE LOVEJOY

ASTON VILLA hope to have Adrian Heath in their team for tomorrow's friendly at home to Hibernian after paying pounds 350,000 to make the Espanol striker their third summer signing.
Villa are awaiting Heath's international clearance after completing a deal complicated by the fact that the Spanish Second Division club still owed Everton money from the transfer which took him abroad 10 months ago.

In overcoming that obstacle, Villa agreed to pay Everton pounds 250,000, with Espanol receiving the remaining pounds 100,000. If the necessary paperwork can be completed today, Heath will join Graham Taylor's new centre-backs, Paul McGrath and Kent Nielsen, in tomorrow's team

Never liked him, dont like the idea of people who share their names with Tory Prime Ministers wearing our shirt.
Thank the lord Ben Thatchers nearing the end of his career.

Yes. A sunny Saturday afternoon. I don't remember Heath though. I seem to remember McGrath in midfield having a stormer, but that could be the mind playing tricks.

We won one-nil with a late headed Kent Nielsen winner.

Did Heath score against us later in his career where Man Citeh beat us?

Possibly Peter Reid was playing for them too?

I have no recolection of Adrian Heath with the exception of a very drunken conversation with a micky mouser outside a club in Torquay that summer.

The only thing I can recall him saying is "Inchy's crap". In fact I think thats all he said in total.

The club was called The Hideaway, quite apt as most of the females did just that when me and my mates walked in.

I made up an Aston Villa X1 of British Prime Ministers,  with a couple of dodgy connections.

Andy Blair
Jimmy Brown
Nigel Callaghan
Bobby Campbell (as in Campbell Bannerman)
Tony Eden (on the books late 1950s,didnt make the 1st team)
Adrian Heath
Samuel Law(as in Bonar Law, played 1880s)
James Major (John Majors son, had a trail apparently!)   http://www.astonvillaplayerdatabase.com/1506.html
Alex McMillan (youth player 1969-72)
Walpole W (on the books before WW1)  http://www.astonvillaplayerdatabase.com/1385.html)
Robert Wilson (9 games in goal 63/64)

I remember McGrath being instantly excellent, Nielsen coming on and somebody shouting "look, it's the fat Jan Molby!" and Hibs having a very smart strip. They still do.

Surely we've had a Pitt?

Unlikely to have a Disraeli.

No Pitt here, or Peel surprisingly.

I reckon you would do well to find a Disraeli at any club.
