At the outset let me just say I love us being in any European competition so please dont turn this thread into a debate about why bother when its perceived that the club management are not so bothered as you think they should be.
Its the draw for the play off round this friday and if we get through thats six guaranteed group games up to Christmas.
Link here with all the info about who we could possibly get:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_League_2010-11
No way am I going to try and work out seedings or european ranking co-efficients, but who would you like us to play?
Personally, I like games within a 200-300 miles of Calais so i can drive there independently and not be tied down to schedules. So Bruges, Paris St Germain, Utrecht, Stuttgart are the sort Im hoping for.
-
I don't mind, really. I just hope that the home leg of our first fixture is on the 26th August. I've already paid for my ticket and cannot make the 19th.
-
To be fair most of us live within 200/300 miles of calais.
I'm sure it can be worked out who we could meet as it was kind of straight forward last year. I don't mind as long as they're rubbish and will lose against us.
-
Borrussia Dortmund is supposed to be a proper football ground, how it should be. Would love to go there.
Bruges would be good too, easy to get to.
-
Not sure who off the list we can get but would like seeing someone decent like Porto, Villareal or Borussia Dortmund.
-
The worst team possible please. Save the big guns for later in the tournament.
-
Dundee Utd
Dortmund
Napoli
Moscow?
-

Err I mean once Ive driven to Dover and got the ferry to Calais, Im within 200/300 miles. We drove to Hamburg that way which is probably just about the limit without getting too knackered.
-
Dundee would be nice.
-
Liverpool. Let's fork 'em up.

You cant be drawn against another team from your own association at this stage.
-
Dundee would be nice.
They didn't qualify.

It is best football stadium in the world in my opinion (howver I not been to all!)
We do not want BD in the play off ...could lose. We want someone from Iceland/Denmark/Sweden etc that we can beat easily.

Alright, Dundee United then.
-
The New Saints FC (former Total Network Solutions) look like they will drop into the Europa League from the Champions League, being 3-1 down after the first leg and being based in Shropshire would be incredibly easy to get to.

How do you say that... sh-rops-hire ... now that sound interesting place to go to!

The New Saints are based in a village called Llansantfraid, just across the border about 30 mins drive past Shrewsbury. A mate of mine his mom lives there so he hired their clubhouse for his 50th birthday bash which resulted in them having to switch a League of Wales fixture to a friday night.
Most probably they would switch any European game to Wrexham though.
-
I don't think there would be any chance that TNS could hold a Villa match at their place, it's just a crap athletics stadium with one stand and not much else, the police wouldn't allow it.

Sounds like the Withdean.

Not anymore they're not. They merged with Oswestry Town and now play in Oswestry. When they played Man City and Liverpool in Europe both their home matches were played at the Millennium Stadium.

How dare you !

I just hope we give this competition a real go this season.
A good run in Europe would enhance our reputation with players further afield (and create great memories for us fans too).
-
Celtic?

The other picture was better. Would have Dave feeling right at home at Lambs Lane, or wherever his tinpot non-league club play their irrelevant rubbishy games...
emoticon fella giving the thumbs up.

So at least we know we will be at home on the 19th then. *winky thing*

Ladbrokes have stopped taking bets.

Can we have Odense again please?

Celtic?
seconded
-
Dundee United please.

Aye.
4th is extremely unlikely but a good run and matches against top class opposition is achievable in this comp.
-
As a Villa fan living in Dundee, I'd love it to be United.
As a United fan I'd love them both to have relatively hassle free progress to the group stages.
-
Somebody easy, preferably suffering from a flu epidemic.
-
Whoever it is, I hope it isn't a passing team, as I suspect what will happen is what happened last season the first time we met a passing team.
I'll take FC Arsebiskit of Latvia or Racing Club Scrotum, so long as they don't believe in keeping possession etc etc.
-
Someone beattable. I want to get to he group stage at least this season.
Would quite like Motherwell.
Save the bigger teams for the next stage of the competition.

Most of the locals, including my younger son who was born here, say Shraaaapshire!

If you'd quite like Motherwell then I guess you're not planning on making the trip.
The place makes Wolverhampton look like some form of paradise.

It's horrible, but then again it's near enough to Glasgow or even Edinburgh to make a decent couple of days of it.
-
Someone fairly rubbish until the group stages, when somebody like Athletic Bilbao would be nice. Haven't actually checked to see whether they are in it this year....
-
I would like feyenood we beat them once in pre-season lets beat them again.
-
Presumably whatever sort of seeding is used will keep us away from the stronger teams like Dortmund, PSG and Porto. I've greatly enjoyed the recent trips to Vienna and Prague and would love the chance to go to somewhere Central European like Krakow (meet up with Nigel Kennedy?), Graz or Bratislava with Villa. All are possible. Maribor (Slovenia) are likely to beat Hibs and that's an attractive town. But there are so many possibilities, including, as people have said, TNS and Motherwell. Israel, Russia and Ukraine would probably be a bit too far/expensive for me.
-
APOEL in Cyprus.
-
For goodness sake; I don't suppose those wishing for a trip to Dundee or Shrewsbury are the very same that wont even bother going?
Anywhere hot or Germany for me and mine please.
-
Rabotnicki Kometal

Does it matter? The question asked who posters would like to get in next round, not where they'd like to go. I went for APOEL because we should easily beat them, not because it would be decent weather for those fans who wanted to go over.

Nope I follow the Villa in Europe and wish us to play somebody close to save a bit of scratch, you presumptious type.

Surely the two questions are the same - I'd ike to see us play at a large football ground in the sunshine becuase it's an experience that I enjoy. 'I'd like us to draw Motherwell because the scots would be so welcoming and I'd rather be on the Costa Del Sol' sounds like self harming to me.
-
A good friend of mine lives in Glasgow and is a Motherwell fan so I'm praying we play them

No, not really. Madrid is a beautiful place and the sun will be shining but you can get bloocksed if you think I'd be happy with us drawing them. Shite and anywhere please.

Someone like Celta Vigo, Deportivo, Stromgodset or Trabsonspor then?
Hmmm; think I'd rather enjoy one single European tie against the might of Spain or Italy to be honest.

I guess my original question was as much about where would people like to go, but I certainly didnt mean for a bit of decent weather.
I would be happy with somewhere the other side of Europe which I couldnt afford to go to, as long as we get through to the group. Then there are are choice of three trips to consider. I certainly dont look for good weather, in fact as I like to drive there Sea France ferries are as cheap as chips in December. Went to Hamburg in a camper van, with no accomodation costs, splitting the petrol costs, and buying the allowance of 3,200 cheap ciggys in Belgium (im a non smoker but my missus smokes like a chimney) I reckon it in effect cost me almost nothing for 4 days away.

How about those that WILL go if it's in Shrewsbury or Motherwell but maybe can't afford a trip abroad?

FC Olimpia Bălţi.
I think they might play in Sparkbrook.

From the excellent Bert Kassies website - Clicky (http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/). The seeded teams on the left get drawn against one of the unseeded teams on the right...
Below it is assumed that the seeded teams of the 3rd qualifying round and the unseeded teams of the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League qualify for the 4th qualifying round of the Europa League. If other teams qualify some teams may become unseeded or seeded.

In terms of destination, a Tel Aviv team.
-
Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk
I bet their songs are brilliant.
-

I went there with England. Hardly anything there, and 8 hours by road from Kiev. Doubt we'd take more than 100.

But there probably won't be a "later in the tournament".
-
Villa don't give a toss about the cup anyway so I just want a good jolly, be lucky if I leave the pub to get to the game.
-
Utrecht please. Followed by a weekend in Amsterdam.

Anyone we'll beat
