they are certainly nice options to have, as they offer different things to young and agbonlahor...

as they mature over the course of the next few seasons, we should have two quality home grown players that will save us millions...

ciaran clark could be put into the same category too...

It depends on how MON uses them, they should have played more towards the end of last season.
They look the part but we will only know when they start getting some starts in the first team, if they havnt got 10 appearances each (either as sub in Prem or as a starter in Europe, League Cup) if I were them I would be asking to go out on loan

I think Delfouneso looks the real deal. I think he could be better than Gabby.

Albrighton looks like he can be a very good player but the next Ashley Young? I think to be near Ashley's level of ability would be a great achievement for any young player, to equal it is beyond most...

The great thing, and one that is ignored by most, is that our youth players do not NEED to be the next gabby or young (Ronaldo/Henry).

Even if they fill the next reserve space they're saving the club buying a Knight (£4m) a Harewood (£3.5m?) or a Maloney (£1m).  As we all know these players command "first team" wages.

They're hardly likely to rock the boat too.  If they do then they're shipped off (a la Cahill - oops).

MON's opinion:

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill was delighted with Marc Albrighton's goal scoring performance against Feyenoord.

The manager has been impressed with the winger's attitude and hopes to see him play a big part in proceedings during 2010-11.

On his opener, O'Neill told Villa's website: "It was a fantastic goal. I have just seen it back and he was a good 35 yards out. He has hit it fantastically.

"He has had a great pre-season and I am delighted for him. I didn't know after the Walsall game he was questioned by a journalist and was asked if he thought he was good enough for the Premier League and he said he was a Premier League player. Good for him - well done!

"He has got the talent to do that and I am pleased. I haven't heard it and Albrighton doesn't strike me as the sort of lad who would be boasting about his ability but great. I am glad.

"He has that confidence and he is going great. I am very pleased for him.

"His game has improved from say this time last season - where he did fine. I'm sure he will be looking to make a real big impression this season."

Albrighton is easily good enough to be a Premier League player right now. Being a GOOD Premier League player is the main thing he ought to be striving for.

i totally agree with that, it is about if they can do well in the league as alot of players are 38 premier legue games a season and others are 4 sets of 45 mins in a game but i think with the right players MON can do alot with them and make them quality

I'd love to see them start if the dust settles on the transfer market and we come up empty. Someone else said that they'd rather see some some flash and finish 8th than boring and finish 6th. I agree.

I'd like to see Albrighton and Young given a run on the wings.

how many times do young players get hailed as the next big thing, virtually every club will have fans raving about the potential of one or two accademy or reserves.
its the same here Albrighton has a chance in a Milner sort of way, Delfounso has been over hyped on here by so many and is niether that quick, strong, skillfull or that great a finisher  to sugest that he will get above average as a profesional footballer, i hope i am wrong but all this hype smacks of clutching at straws.

That's your opinion and the 'overhyping' as you call it is simply other people's. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean you have to portray it as anything else.

I think Delfouneso has definitely been the subject of overhyping, alot of it is caused by MON though - he obviously sees something there.

I do think he's looked good, but I don't think he's ready for first team football yet.

Albrighton on the other hand looks ready. Has done for a year, I think we'd have seen alot more of him had we played in Europe.

Albrighton is ready and would be an ideal player to bring on when things are flat in the game. He is enthusiastic and creates chances ........

I agree with a lot of what has been said. Albrighton and The Fonz are certainly worthy of being in the squad and deserve to be blooded in some league games too.

However, that is his opinion, so by your own logic what are you on about?

Albrighton seems to be a quality player already - on the evidence of today he should easily rack up 30 appearances this season alone.

Why MON could not bring himself to play him last year, especially towards the end of the season when the team looked short of energy and ideas, is completely beyond me. If anything were to condemn the closing months of MON's regime it was Marc's performance (among others) today.

Future Villa legend, hopefully.

Both are Prem quality. The Fonz needs more League starts.

Just think if MON had got his way, we'd probably have watched McGeady on the wing instead of MA. And watched a wretched 1-0 scrappy win. With no subsitutions, except for Heskey on for Carew after 80 minutes, obviously.

I remember thinking last pre-season that Albrighton had something about him. Raw and hungry and I thought he'd of fitted into our style of play really well, enough to be used on ocassions anyway. I just don't understand why MON was so reluctant to try him.
