Title: What a shock. . . the claret socks!
Post by: Archie on August 01, 2010, 02:37:39 PM
I quite like the new kit, but yesterday I have watched the Feyenoord game on streaming and I have immediately realised that I'll never acclimatize to the claret socks. West Ham or Burnley may wear claret sicks, but Aston Villa are sky blue socks, imo. . .

True. I think it looks a bit wrong still, but I'll probably be used to it by Christmas.

Traditionally we always wore claret socks, and long may we do so.

Sky Blue?

Do you mean Pale Blue?

All a matter of taste, I prefer the Claret socks.

Ok for a season or so.

Wore claret socks with the Reebok strip in 95/96 and didn't do us any harm.

That kit had a more retro look to it though. This one seems to have taken the halcyon days of DOL's last season as it's inspiration.

Have to admit, this has given me a few sleepless nights.

Either pale blue or claret for me, it's white socks I never warm to!

At last.  A sane view on such a matter.  Bring back the black socks with claret & blue bands at the top.  Beautiful!

No we didn't. We wore them in the late fifties/early sixties then on and off for the past decade. Mostly in the past 50-odd years it's been blue, and sometimes white. Black are the real traditional ones.

Personally, I think that their new socks are pretty sharp.  What is disturbing is the colour of the ball that is being used at this tournament.

For old farts like me the late fifties early sixties are traditional because I was there. I'd guess before then it would be about 50/50 black/claret.  I can still remember the horror of first seeing white socks around the mid sixties.  White socks were only worn at that time by the girls from Handsworth Comprehensive.

Black from 1874-1957 except for 1900-23.

The thread title would make a good name for an album.
