On the official web site - Home shirt on sale from Sept 16th and away is a week later. Two things are bugging me with this:
a) Why has it taken so long for this to be on sale?
b) How on earth can they be charging FULL price when the season will be a month old - As you wont be able to wear it for the whole season, they how can we be expected to be charged for the full season ????
I imagine the answer to the first point could well be down to Nike, new sponsors etc - But there is really no excuse for the second point !!
Whats people's thoughts on this ?? #-o
-
My thoughts.
I'm not wasting my money on it.
Fucking piss take.
-
They should have had one out in June and one released in September. Give people the chance to buy one before their summer holidays, and the chance for people who want to buy both to spread the payments.
Don't think I'll bother this year, as you say, they took a ridiculous amount of time to sort it.
-
Has anyone confirmed that it is only a 1 year shirt?
-
So once again people are having to wait until September to pay around £50 for a shirt that'll probably have an eight-month shelf life. If people want to buy it it's up to them, but they might as well come with "MUG" printed on the back.
-

That'll cost you a couple of quid more.
-
Another pr shambles I'm afraid- other clubs manage to release their kits year in and year out ahead of us!
-
Between this and the bloody god awful checks I'll save my money this season.
Fucking September? It's a bleeding joke. Mind the way this transfer window looks like going we'll probably sign new players at the same time.
-
They should do a lot better than that September lol
-
That's hopeless.
-
I can't understand why this boils so many people's piss.
It's a shirt FFS. And this thing about "shelf life". Does the shirt disintegrate after 9 months?
In fact, save your money and buy it for £15 in 9 months time. Or won't that be "fashionable"?
-

Yep all round it is very negative at the moment, no new players, fairly negative from the manager and now shirts out late. It's not looking good at the moment, we need a big upturn.
-
Wouldn't have happened when Steve stride was here.
-
Pete3206 - The thing that boils the piss (love the way that you put this BTW) - Its the fact that they are charging full whack - They are stating that its for the 2010/11 season, so fans should be able to have it for the whole season. I appreciate your comments that it wont disintegrate after 9 months, buts thats not the point really. It should be a lesser cost if it aint gonna be worn for the whole season - They market it for 2010/11 - Not 2010/11 from September onwards.

on very.com its showing up as delivery in 14 days when you select a size
-
maybe its a kind of roll over from last season ..
we brought players that wernt fit till half way through the season, maybe we are now trying that approach with shirts ..
-
Oh No! - Its being called BURGUNDY on very.com
Check out official site ...

As an ironic statement I bought my shirt half way through last season with Downing 6 on the back.
-
Has anyone confirmed that it is only a 1 year shirt?
Well every shirt for the last 14 seasons has been.
-
http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/FootballNewsDetail/0,,10265~2101839,00.html
That collar isn't right.
I am starting to think Nike have put minimal effort into this.
Villa said ' we want the corporate checks in the shirts and maybe the socks'
Nike took a previous shirt with such a design and changed the colours to claret and blue.
Forex then came into the equation and Nike production team sucked between their teeth.
Nike's marketing team were too engaged with the ManUre. Barca, Arsenal lovefests to be all that bothered about Villa, so here we are, looking about important to Nike as Kiddy Harriers used to be.
Amazing.
-
I will not be buying it - dreadful commercial cockup.
This season I shall be mostly wearing the 1957 FA Cup winners shirt until MON and his players win the bloody thing.
Of course, for those who sit next to me a VP I shall take it off to wash it. (My wife told me to say)
-
Well at least nobody will waste any money having MILNER 8 on the back.
-
I am sat here chuckling - you could not make it up sometimes
-
Are those polo shirts on sale in the club shop yet?
Purple things, big lion on them. Those.
-
Oh, and random shirt comment .. I don't buy them (retro for me, if any), but I can understand why people are pissed off that they're not on sale for a full month into the season.
Not to mention the fact that they look fucking awful.
-
This is why have too sell to buy,
We are making no money from merchandise, we are not going on tour attracting more support.
It's a joke no wonder spurs have got fourth at the first try, we have had 2 attempts bought shit players and wasted a lot of money!
-
It's a poor show really is'nt it? You should be able to have them to wear for the first game of the season, not 6 games in.
-
This is the sort of shambolic nonsense that you'd expect under HDE. Surely we should have a contract that requires Nike to have the shirt ready for the new season, or they face a penalty?
I tell you want I'll help them out at VP. Get working on the 2011/12 shirt now, and it may be ready on time. We should be selling the effing things in June FFS.
The board have done so much good, but I get the feeling that their eye is not on the ball at the moment.
-
Chelsea wore theirs for the FA cup final, no wonder our wage bill is so high. I wouldn't come here if I was a player!
-
Are those polo shirts on sale in the club shop yet?
Purple things, big lion on them. Those.
Yup, the shop in town had them a couple of weeks back.
-
It's a joke no wonder spurs have got fourth at the first try, we have had 2 attempts bought shit players and wasted a lot of money!
First time of asking? That'll be the same Spurs that have been banging on for about eight years about how this is definitely their year for finishing fourth?

-
It's a joke no wonder spurs have got fourth at the first try,
you been drinking or forgot the Jol and Ramos years ?
-
Dont buy anything from Very ..
That company is a joke ....
-
Can you imagine the outcry if HDE was in charge?
It's worse than amateur.
-

If I'm not mistaken, the players have been wearing them with FXPro underneath the lion. So maybe when the current batch has sold out they'll come in with FXPro plastered on them.
-

Now I can understand this viewpoint, but for many fans (fans with cash remember), wearing the new shirt to the first games of the season is, if not vitally important, then desirable.
It seems that in our haste to have Nike as our kit supplier, which seemed a great idea at the time I agree, we have become somewhat hostages to fortune. We are now getting shit designs behind any reasonable timescale.
Another reason to doubt the business acumen of our board? Possibly.
-
This is poor, but I imagine the commercial department at the club are really taking it today. We haven't been very good in this area at all have we? If this is a Nike issue then we really shoud consider another supplier. As a fan you should be able to wear the kit for the first game, and better still a few weeks prior.
-
If you order the home shirt from very.com does it mean you can have it without the sponsors name on it?? <snigger> I know,I know, wishful thinking on my part!!
Seriously though a complete PR disaster by the Villa!!
-
The only way the club can rectify this, in my view, is to announce that the kit will be for 2 years.
Somehow doubt that, but we could see it being the least sold kit for couple of decades otherwise. Especially with no signings that normally make people rush out and buy one.
-
This is good news for me.
I don't like the rehashed Lens kit anyway, but habit and misguided loyalty probably would have made me buy it.
Now that the season will be a month old and I'll have got into the habit of alternative matchday attire, I think I'll be able to fight the urge to buy it.
-
Frequent kit changes annoys the Premier League

Another moan... (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8848630.stm)
-
Frequent kit changes annoys the Premier League
http://bit.ly/afyU8t
Doesn't annoy me in the slightest, they can have a new kit every match so long as it keeps the price of the match tickets down.
No-one has to buy them and, kids aside, only the deluded think they look 'quality' in the latest kit, give me a retro shirt any day of the week.
As for talk of this being a 'pr disaster' pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease - do me a favour!
-
Are those polo shirts on sale in the club shop yet?
Purple things, big lion on them. Those.
From memory yes.
I popped down on Friday and they definately had a purple top in. They also had the new tracksuit top in with the big lion on it which looked good.
On another notes about the shirt cock, I had gone down to get tickets for Valencia, The Europa game and West ham. I could only get the valencia tickets as the club havent received the new paper tickets with the new sponsor on yet - so the other tickets will be posted out.
I mean FFS how hard could it be to buy some tickets
-
This new sponsorship deal has really thrown a spanner in the works.
The new sponsor wasn't announced until June, thus meaning that Nike had to stick the sponsor on the shirts just for the unveiling & pre-season.
But, you'd think the most famous sports supplier in the world would have enough donkeys working on the kits to get a few thousand created before the start of the season.
Surely there must be some form of contract stating so?
Unless, by Villa not signing a sponsorship deal so late Villa broke it, and Nike said they could not supply the kit as it was so late...
Either way, I'm very fucked off. I wanted to go to the home game on my birthday sporting the new shirt (I collect) and get pissed on watered down bottles of beer.
Hope you're happy, Villa & Nike, you've ruined my birthday. COMPLETELY! (cry cry)
-
Apparently its due to the shortage of plastic bottles with every nike kit made from recycled plastic, Take 10 empty bottles to Villa Park and get the ball rolling.(You may get a discount)
-
The official Pravda presence on Facebook are not very keen on people making even slightly negative feedback comments about this. A lot of selective editing going on.
-

It won't. The shirt is £45 for adults and all printing on the new kit done at either official shop is free until the end of September.
-
That's if we get the fucking kit before the end of September.
Poor.
-
I was looking forward to the new shirt for the first game of the season but i suppose i will have to wait dam.
-
I was looking forward to the new shirt for the first game of the season but i suppose i will have to wait dam.
You can wear it for the first game of next season, underneath next years kit.
If that's out on time.
-
It will be here in time for the new signings to wear on their debuts then. Perfect ;-)
-
It will be here in time for the new signings to wear on their debuts then. Perfect ;-)
February?
-
Even if the club delayed it with the new sponsor I find it amazing a company the size of Nike can't run a few thousand off at short notice. It's not as if they won't have finshed off putting the crappy chequered bit on & weren't ready for it.

You'd think so wouldn't you.
-
Nike aren't famous for their workers conditions ... so why stop now? Get a few thousand more kids to put the patches on the shirts!
-
I plan on complaining about it and being annoyed about it...
Then ordering it anyway.
And also not liking it when it gets here
Stupid checker board armpit shirt...
-
The more I look at the shirt in question, the worse it looks.
It looks cheap. ill designed and put bluntly, the sort of kit you'd expect in the Vauxhall Conference.
-
Am I right in thinking this is our last contracted season with Nike?
Unfotunately (in my opinion), I can see them not renegotiating with us.
-
I thought it was a five year deal?
-
Why is it that the club can do so many things right, but there almost always seems a problem with new shirts?
When will Fulham's be out?
-
Nope, Fulham's aren't out either.
I think Nike have put their resources into making ManUre, Barca, Arsenal and Celtic shirts.
Certainly, Villa staff are blaming Nike, I was at the Village last week and that was where the blame lies.
-

Fulham use Kappa

Hmmmmmmmm maybe Forex are the stumbling block then ?

Coarse or Course, as in 'of course' ? ;-)
-
Fulham and Spurs both have knew sponsors announced at a similar time to ours, Spurs shirt is out 26th September with Puma and Fulham shirt is out the 5th August.
Our shirt will be on sale at all the sports chains though, whereas Fulham is exclusive to their club shop I beleive.

Bla bla bla.
You know ;-)
I blame Mourinho.
-
When we signed up with Nike it was proof we were about to start off a new level of marketing that would blow everyone away. Hasn't quite workd out like that.
-
Agree, and Adidas are looking like a better partner to me.
Nike = American, is that the big connection ?
Who makes Browns kits ?
-
Maybe under the Nike logo it could say:
"Manufacture replica shirts like a bunch of amateurs"
-
Reebock make Cleveland Browns kits, so Randy has no Nike love in.
There must be a 'lessons learnt' here at HQ.
-
Lessons Learned - Alice in Chains.
Rock on.
-
I am more interested in the lost revenues this will create?
When we are in a transfer window without a pot to piss in unless we sell then getting our merchandising out early to allow for increased sales for summers holidays & the like should have been crucial.
I am seriously questioning the lack of visibility of RL & Faulkners only apparant interest being in hosting seminars in the 1874 Suite.
The club appear to have lost the focus of what they are, a football club.
-
Lessons Learned - Alice in Chains.
Rock on.
Yeah, great chooon!
I can only assume the club will offer fans some sort of incentive to pay full whack for the shirts from the club shop. They'll need to because it's not good really.
-
Agree, and Adidas are looking like a better partner to me.

Reebok, who I believe are owned by Adidas.
-
Re. lost revenues, I agree 100% bob.
Our FD is on holiday at the moment, but I would think he's still in touch.
I hate blame culture, but this situation calls for accountability surely.
-
I can only assume the club will offer fans some sort of incentive to pay full whack for the shirts from the club shop. They'll need to because it's not good really.
The incentive is free shirt printing. Woop-de-fucking-do!
And they will lose shit loads. Think of all the people who would usually go down on the first game, buy a shirt and then enjoy the game.
They're going to miss that this year.
I lost all hope in Nike and AVFC for their poor organisational skills with regards to this kit launching. Seems the Spurs fans have got it bad too.
-
It must be related to the fact that we got the sponsors so late, surely?
It's more disappointing that the shirts seem to be recycled old designs from two years ago, though.
-
Maybe football clubs have milked the profits so much, manufacturers are losing interest a little ?
Just a thought.
-
It must be related to the fact that we got the sponsors so late, surely?
That's what I've been putting it down to. But the fact is Nike have had 2 months (from when the sponsor was announced) to get the kit made. They should stop making as many Man Utd, Barca, Arsenal, etc., for a week or two and focus the majority of their works on Villa.
We may not be as big as the above clubs, but we're still a PL team with a massive history.
-

What with this and the booking fee going up to £2 on buying match tickets (which i found out on booking my Newcastle tickets this morning), the club are having a bit of a mare at the moment.
-

...but we don't sell as many kits.
-
I honestly can't believe that it's beyond a company like Nike to have all of the shirts ready, so that all they have to do is get printed up. We're not exactly talking about designer wedding dresses are we, they're mass produced, polyester tat, and it's not like it's even an original design.
Surely in this economic downturn there's capacity somewhere for an enterprising firm to print up a few thousand football shirts?
I remember when there was a delay getting the Muller sponsor, they just sold the shirts without a logo.

Yes, but we still sell kits.
By cutting down the number of Man Utd, Barca, Inter, etc., just for one month then they'll surely make that money back from the sales that Villa will make upon the kit release.
Then, once everyone has bought one they can start making more of the popular shirts again.
Do I make any sense?

West Brom didn't have a sponsor last season (or the season before?). Instead of waiting they just sold them and said "if/when we get a sponsor we'll stick it on the front for free".
I'd prefer Villa did that, tbh.

No, not at all. But at the end of the day we're a football club. Shirt sales are extremely important to all clubs. And Villa will lose some money from this cock up.
-
Before Nike came sniffing, weren't we supposed to be getting a deal with a firm called Under Armour?
-
I remember Deardora launching a kit on the final game of the season a few years ago.
Granted, the sponsor was a rollover from the previous season ( NTL) but it shows what can be done.
Be interesting to see the contact we have with Nike.
-
Apols if this is old news (I can't be arsed to look) but I've just noticed that FX Pro are also sponsoring Fulham, which I think is kinda naff from our POV.

Yeah, it's been spoken about at length. IMO, as long as we get the money I couldn't give a monkeys.
-
I cant get my head around this september business? are we really been that badly treated? or are we been pushovers?
-
I actually sent a complaint this morning. That's how bored I am at work.

It was. I remember because we'd won a trip round the ground, including the dressings rooms, before the game and we got first look at the new shirt. We got a look at other things as well but I won't mention those. ;-)
-
Ooooooooh Pauline, and you living in Knowle ;-)
-
^^^^
hehe I know. We are actually quite liberated out here. Well some of us, the 'not posh' ones.
-
Its not the best, the only benefit for me is that it's my Birthday in September, I can ask for a kit then. If it wasn't then I wouldn't purchase it.
It was the same last year wasn't it? Also Nike knew it was going to be Acorns as well.
What was the excuse then?
-
Wherever the actual fault lies, there's no escaping the fact that lots of people want to buy the shirt before the season starts.
September is surely going to mean a loss in revenue, if only because the money ended up getting spent on school uniforms in July/August instead, oh and it's a month later for folks to be a bit more worried about their jobs.
I'm happy with the much cheaper t-shirt I bought, but that's not the point is it - I wasn't going to buy the shirt anyway.
-
Anyone know the rumours about the 2011 12 home shirt?
-
Stop moaning, all of you
http://astonvilla-views.com/2010/07/28/bleating-over-the-kit/
-
It is poor to release the shirt so late and also poor that we have had a new shirt every year in recent times, the big problem with football these days is greed , and I refer to tv , clubs and players in that comment!
-
Bad show really! I would have been tempted to buy the away one for my two weeks jolly hols near Alicante in a couple of weeks time so as to fly the flag, but won't bother with it coming out in September. Very poor retail management skills whichever way you look at it. Get Mary Portas to sort 'em out I say!!!

Quite right Dave, I was cheered up immensely by them suggesting we sign Shane Long.....
-
Hmmm so on sale from mid-Sept...out of date by early May.
I make that 8 months... well worth £45!

Stonkingly good value NOT !

i will not be wasting my money for 8 month shirt

Agree, and Adidas are looking like a better partner to me.

ALL NFL shirts are made by Reebok. It's a a leaguewide contract. Even the coaches have to wear reebok clothing (even if they wear a suit, reebok has to make it).
All sports here are like that.
MLB= Majestic
NBA=Adidas
NFL/NHL=Reebok
Yeah, it may be annoying, but hey, the shirts are always available for the start of the season!
As for Nike, and the "oh it's soo American" thing. I think it has less to do with it being American (Since really no sports teams here wear nike, except some colleges, and more to do with a "SEE! We are Big time just like Untied and Arsenal!"
-
To coin a phrase, I think Nike have dropped the ball here.
In their attempt to maximise profits they've not delivered and our board should be sitting down with them talking compensation.
The 'we supply ManUre / Arse / Barca' line is wearing very thin now, and there are better partners around who will give Villa better service.
We are small beer to NIke and they are definately showing this to be the case.
-

I agree 100%
It's like nike is doing VILLA a favor by making their shirts, and "you'll get them when you get them"

Agreed,
Most business transactions have some kind of penalty clause attached,
as well as compensation from Nike, how about them making some kind of donation to Acorns as a goodwill gesture??
-
I bet NIke are blaming Villa and their deal with Forex.
In fact, I guarantee it.
-
I guess it's a catch 22 situation.
Be small beer to a big company like Nike?
or be big beer to a small company like X-tech holding? *wink*
-
I don't give a shit who makes our kit as long as the quality is good and the design is right.
Oh and it is out in good time.

So this year? The design is shit, the quality will no doubt be average and the release is a piss take.
Are we small heath?

I did really like the design ... emphasis on 'did'. When I found out it's been taken off a two year old shirt previously I was a bit offended, to say the least.
The Nike quality I've always found quite good ... about right for a multi-national sportswear company just banging something out to make the quick buck.
But I have to agree with you on the 'pisstake' bit. Fucking offensive, that's what it is.
-
I can say that I will not be buying any Villa shirt this season. They have lost my money.
I'm sure I'm not the only one.
-
There is a sort of exceitement about buying a shirt early, to wear it on holiday in Benidorm, to just be 'ready' for next season.
That excitement time frame has passed - we'll see plenty of Acorns shirts at VP this coming season I think.
-
If I was Forex I would be picking the phone up and asking some serious questions - surely the big market here is pre season on holiday look at what I have got new sales.
Not the look what the team started wearing 8 weeks ago ......
Utter Joke the whole thing and infact embarasing joke really when you talk to supporters of other clubs
-
Theres loads of speculation. I'd love to hear the official line from the club. Ive posted a well worded Q on the general c krulak thread (bottom of page 7). Itd be nice if he got back to us, even nicer if it was an honest answer and not media splurge....
-
Wouldn't have happened when Steve stride was here.
Complete bollocks - the shirt was nearly always out late in the 90's.
-
they should have just lied put the shirt online for a few hours, and told us that the demand was "SOOO HIGH" that they all sold out really fast online and they were making more...
then on batch 2, they could take away the checker board arm pits...
-
So I sent an e-mail to Aston Villa moaning about it. Big woop. Wanna fight about it?
I got a response today. Here's what was said:
Dear Mark
With reference to your recent correspondence, the contents of which I was obviously disappointed to read.
When Nike enter into production of any replica shirt they cannot stop the process, it has to be completed in its entirety. We fully understand the needs of our supporters and with this in mind, when the shirts had been completed we asked Nike to add an additional process so that all shirts could be embellished with the FX Pro logo.
All retail shirts will then replicate the ones worn by our players in all matches in season 2010-2011.
We have only just received the dates from Nike on when we can expect deliveries, which is 16th September 2010 Home and 23rd September 2010 Away.
As a gesture of goodwill from Aston Villa Football Club we are offering free printing on all Home and Away shirts purchased from our Villa Village and City Centre stores until October 31st 2010.
Will you please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused but I am sure you will understand now the reasons why the shirts have been delayed.
Kind Regards

Er, even though you haven't actually explained anything Mr Greenfield!
-
It's a shame they didn't sell them without the sponsor's logo!

Do you really think Forex based their bid for the sponsorship on having a few thousand Villa fans wear their tops around Benidorm during the months of July and August??
Or do you think it's based on the players/staff/ground advertising being plastered with their logo during live games and highlights and all the other opportunities the club themselves provide for exposure? Stuff which is already happening as they don't have to wait for the retail versions.

They'd have sold a lot more.

All the new kits here:

Blackburn home, Newcastle third, Citeh away, Arsenal home and West Ham home (minus the sponsor) are the smartest IMO.

Liverpool 3rd kit is fantastic. I love the little flames on the crest.
