Was great when they had the coach outside Villa Park a couple of years back.
-
What a wonderful video.
-
Thanks for posting that, wonderful.

Great find.
I think we need to merge this thread with the "Crying when watching a film" thread.
-
Colour match footage. For some reason labelled as 1958 footage. (http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=64983)
-
The reason why 4th place isn't worth shit.
-
I'm no expert, but looking at the size of the crowds in Brum, I would say there were many more than 100,000 that the Pathe newsreel mentioned.
-
"Those who remember the last time the Villa won the cup never thought it would be 37 years until the famous claret and blues brought it back again"
How unbelievably sad are those words, 53 years later?

That is wonderful footage.

Very much so to both posts.
-
Great stuff.
Thanks, chaps!
-
Beautiful.
-
I've never seen the colour footage before. Great!
The most telling thing? That on the homecoming film, the commentator finds it faintly incredulous that it has been 37 years since Aston Villa last won the Cup...
-
Wonderful
-
Love it. Is there any more old video coverage in colour (any older than FA Cup Final) Ideally with Gerry Hitchens.
-
Those are both wonderful, thanks for putting them up for all to see.

Sadly no sound
1957: Aston Villa celebration dinner. (http://www.macearchive.org/Archive/Title/midlands-news-10051957-aston-villa-celebration-dinner/MediaEntry/1968.html)
-
At the dinner "sporting celebrities from all over the Midlands listened with humility as Johnny Dixon all but broke down when he rose to respond for the players and talked quietly of their endeavours, their mutual trust and their response to his leadership."

This clip is the cup being shown off at something called the British Industries Fair at Castle Bromwich.

I am guessing this is at what is now the Jaguar plant. As an aside you can see a sign near the start of the clip saying railway station, which of course there was one until Beeching wielded his axe.

Thanks Andy, never seen that before. One memory I have as a 10 year old was my father taking me to Villa Park to see the team on the steps outside the old Trinity Road stand displaying the cup. I remember being disappointed that although I could see them being interviewed I couldn't hear what they were saying. I've often wondered what happened to that footage. This was somewhat alleviated for me when my mother took me to the top floor of Lewis's and I got to meet all the team and get their autographs, except that is, for my hero Peter McParland, who was the only member of the team who wasn't there.

The Exhibition Buildings for the B.I. Fair were the opposite side (south east) of Spitfire roundabout to the Spitfire/Jaguar plant. Seemingly long since demolished.

Here is the whole game...
-
That is magnificent - had never seen it in colour
That has to be the best Villa shirt by a country mile
-
Blimey, That's incredible. My dad was at that game, and how I wish he was still alive to watch this.

Mine too Buddy, mine too
He always used to go on about that shirt being the best - he had passed away before they brought it back out as a replica
-
Thanks for posting the video. I think that's probably the first time I've seen the second goal. I watched it as a ten year old and I remember Johnny Dixon hitting the crossbar, at which point I threw my hands up to my head shouting some expletive-like exclamation and when I looked again the ball was in the net.
I've waited a long time for that.

Hey? You still haven't have you? The video I am looking at is black and white, unless I've suddenly gone colour blind.

Couldn't possibly have been that many as everyone knows all proper Brummies are blose fans innit?

Grandad, Dad & Uncle were all there in 1957, unfortunately Uncle is the only one still with us
In 1981 I remember Dad telling me as a 13 yr old, "this is the first time for 71 years, might be another 71 before we see it again ?" 8)

I'll die a happy man to see us win it once.

My grandad and dad (both no longer with us) with the cup. Bet they don't let it do a tour of back street pubs these days. Grandad and dad are the 2 on the right of the cup in the picture , the lad on the left was dad's best mate growing up and a dingle.

My late old man was from Northern Ireland and a decent footballer (missed a pen in an Irish cup final for Distillery). He knew Peter McParland well it seems and said he was a top man. Heard him on AVFC and still a great Villa fan, live on South Coast I think.

What a great picture. Love the bloke at the front - "Ar dow care if yo'm tekkin a picture, I ay movin' out my seat."

As the pub would almost certainly have been in Cradley, you're probably not far off.
