I'm going for 7th.
-
Why not lower than 9th?
I'll say somewhere between 6th and 8th probably 6th.
-
8th.
-
I'll wait a few weeks before making a prediction. It'll highly likely be between 5th-8th though.
-

I tied '9th and lower' but it isn't showing.
Maybe a mod can add this ?
-
Done.
-
Positive thinking chaps. I've taken a leaf out of Glen Mcgrath's book.
-
Done.
Merci beaucoup.
-
A pity we won't finish 3rd for the second time since league football began (OK, not counting 3rd place in the old 2nd Division).
I think 8th,
-
At the moment I'll say 8th. But in a months time it'll be different as the transfer activity gets under way.
-
far too early to say, we have yet to see our and others transfer moves, plenty more to come
-
As it stands, going on the second half of the season's form i think 8th.
Can anyone really invisige Oneil changing and not tiring out the squad.
-
5th
-
9th.
-
7th and not too much joy in the cups either.
-
Didn't we have a similar thread at the end of the season? It's too early, and it will still be too early when the season kicks off. Sep 1st is when to judge.
-
19th and and the Hindenberg will emerge from a space time anomaly and crash into Villa Park, burning it to the ground.
Alright then, 4th. You miserable, hopeless sad sacks. Where's your spunk?
Actually, forget that.
-
I'm a miserable get but I seem to have been one of the more positive voters.
-
8th. I think Everton and Liverpool will finish above us, plus the usual suspects.
Ask me again when the window shuts though.
-
9th.
-
I'd say we're looking at around 8th at the moment.
-
Can anyone see MON getting a stay of execution if we finish below 6th and we don't win a trophy to gloss over the decline?
-
Ha ha! Talk about getting ahead of yourself!
-
8th for me..
-
Can anyone see MON getting a stay of execution if we finish below 6th and we don't win a trophy to gloss over the decline?
Can anybody see MON having his hairy arse kissed in public by Mrs Overall, grishnakh and Risso and being piped off by Amy Winehouse if we win the league?
-

aye. i'm waiting to see who comes in first
-
8th.
But an extended (and somewhat surprising) run in Europe to cushion the blow.
-
6th, if we can hang on to Milner. maybe 8th if he goes and isn't replaced properly. I reckon the dippers will finish ahead of us, but same as last season otherwise. One good thing about not buying / selling is the squad will be settled early on whereas other sides making sweeping changes can take a while to gel. A cup would be nice, domestic or Euro.
-
8th.
Culminating with MON insisting we've had a good season and more gobbledegook about 'I know my worth'
-
5th
-
Between 6th to 8th hence my guess would be 7th, behind (not in any order) - Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool and Spurs or Everton.
-
Where are we going to finish?
Wembley.
-
I have a feeling that we may be looking for a new manager at the end of this season.
If the crowd turns against MON, I can see him either walking out part way through the season, but I think he will jack it in after this season is over.
I can honestly seee us finishing around 10th place and that lot from across the city may even be challenging to finish above us
I hope that I am wrong!! but at the moment I cant seem to get any enthusiasm for the new season, and yes I have renewed as I have done every season since 1987.

Agreed.
As for this season, with a bit of luck, probably 7th but with the top 6 some distance away. We'll be playing catch-up for the next few seasons, with or without MON.
-
I would take 6th now to be honest.

Agree with most of that
I can see Liverpool having a decent season under Woy, I would like to see us really go for the Europa with the final being in Dublin. can't see us getting easy cup runs like last season again.
I am trying to get excited about the start of the season but am just totally underwhelmed. Hope that will change with some signings and getting rid of the vast amount of deadwood we have.
-
We will be looking for a new manager this time next year.
This will be MONs 5th year, he stayed at Celtic and Leicester for 5 years, wonder if he'll stick to his trend?
I can see us finishing 8th. I said 9th originally, but think it'll be 8th.
Man Utd
Chelsea
Arsenal
Liverpool
Man City
Spurs
Everton
Will all finish above us, not in that order.
-
Fourth for me, fuck it. Chelski champs, Manure second. City will implode and have at least one manager sacking. Arsenal will have a poor season, and Spurs will bow out of the chumps league which will shag their season too, leaving us to battle Liverpool for third. We are the Villa, last season showed we are not scared of the big teams..... Come on lads!
-
8th.
-
I expect we'll do beter than last season, just as we have for the last 4 seasons.
I also have a feeling we'll do very well in Europe this season.
-
Where are we going to finish?
Wembley.
Which is funnily enough where we'll start the season after as well.
-

I still have doubts about Uncle Woy.
The league campaign was less than impressive last year, as spectacular as their Euro campaign was.
Despite a good initial first year at Blackburn he struggled there and played a big part in their relegation in the late 90's, even with money to spend.
He then toured around a few obscure Scandinavian leagues for the best part of a decade before Al Fayed took a punt on him. GT MkII I thought, when he pitched up at Fulham. Particularly when he gave a pre match interview and enthused that "It's always great to play the Arsenal." Happy just to be there, I reasoned.
Still, I was wrong then. So who knows.
-
While I’m aware that this is just a bit of pre-season fun and often the predictions are inaccurate, except for mine which are very accurate, I have one question, which is really two questions. What has changed so much about the Premier League thus far, with only Man City dipping their toe, that has seen sides catapult ahead of us or conversely seen us zoom into 4th or 5th?
Surely the only logical way to approach this would be to switch Man City around with Spurs based on Man City’s spending to date? I’m not quite sure how at this embryonic stage of the season, Man City’s spending or Joe Cole has seen us drop as low as 9th, 8th or 7th. I know Merseyside clubs get along, but its quite remarkable the impact Joe Cole has apparently had on the Everton squad as well. Unless we all subscribe to the Coopers Injury school of strikers?
Similarly, I’m just as bemused about how, by doing absolutely nothing, we’ve managed to eclipse two sides who finished above uss last season.
All in all I guess this tells me that you lot are crazy, crazy like a horse.
-
We will probably finish between 6th to 8th position depending on who we buy in the transfer market.
-
6th. As you were.
-
Went 6th, but it's very hard to judge until all the buying and selling is done, ours and the other sides.
I can see Man City challenging towards the top and Liverpool improving with Woy, but Spurs struggling to balance PL and CL and Arsenal slipping a bit.
1st to 3rd - Man U, Chelsea and Man City
4th & 5th - Arsenal and Liverpool
6th to 8th - Spurs, Everton and us
-

Ahh Mazies rim resorts to silly names again, could someone have slighted his favourite
As to the thread title, obviously missed by Maizies rim in his desperate need to slag off contributors, I've no idea at all and can't see how anyone can even proffer a guess until the season starts and Mon decides to buy the odd extra bench sitter.
My worry remains the same as always with Mon, if we get several long term injuries to key players how well will he cope, and will I cope with the inane excuses that will be forthcoming to explain his short comings away from his mates like Maizie
-
This is the season where MON will sign the players to put the icing on the cake he's been so slowly (tortuously?) preparing anf baking for the last four years. He'll get us the playmaker and striker that will transform us and allow us to play a more controlled passing game with more ball retention, creativity and cutting edge at home, allowing us to turn most of those home draws into wins. He'll get us a proper right back who can play a bit of football going forward, and rotate his players a bit more to keep them fresh and involved. This should see us break the top 4 or very very near. So I'm going for 7th.
-
I went 6th. This vote is meaningless until transfers have taken place. Won't really be able to get a proper view of it until August 31st really.
-

It'll be looking like 4th until end of Febrauary but it'll end up 7th by May. Maybe with an extra point on last year.
-
It was just a bit of fun Malcolmtent, but I wasn't slagging off any contributors, just you.
-
7th place , although I think if we did finish 6th it would be a huge achievement next season seeing the quality of our opponents.

Just don't expect it to be recieved as such if that's what does happen.

Indeed.
And all joking aside, it would take the former to have a chance of producing the latter.
All in one summer?
He hasn't even found a defender diametrically opposed to a leftback (see what I did there) he's happy with after four calender years and eight windows - so I'll take a wild stab and say 'unlikely.'
-
9th for me, depending on transfer activity.
-
Don't we have one of these ever season?
At the moment I will go for seventh and hopefully that elusive Cup win. I'm confident that the defence will take care of its self, but if Milner goes it will be hard to replace him, and unless we buy players with more quaity on the ball, and more cutting edge up front we might just stay at last seasons level at best. Of couse things could change. I also think the manager needs to be more flexible with tactics, and maybe use youth players more ofton. Of couse things can always change.

joke threads on off topic mate
-
6th , it depends on keeping Milner and if keane comes him actually scoring goals.
If Delph, Clark , Fonz and Albrighton develop this season then future could be good
Milner gone and no decent replacement then it could be a bad season
-
I'd be happy to finish 8th if we won a cup.
-
I can see us finishing below Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Spurs, Fulham, and maybe one surprise team, so 10th :(

Birmingham?
-
I'm going for 8th - and I see I'm not alone in that!
-

If we won THE cup I'd take 17th.

Yes, but I doubt we're entering the Birmingham Senior Cup again this year Dave!
-
Two major signings.One a goal scoring striker and i would go for 5th ........ [-o< O:) O:)
-
For all those predicting 8th and lower, just out of interest did you think the same this time last year?
-
I predicted 10th last year, which shows what I know.
As for this thread, I know we're all bored, but what is the point of predicting positions when no transfers have taken place? Barmy!
-
To be fair, we all know that we won't get relegated, and we all know that we won't win the league.
What I would love to see ( love it) is at least a top 6 finish and another great cup run and. most importantly, some entertainment at Villa Park.
Face it, if we aren't major contenders to win things, the next best thing is watching those 4-3 wins at VP with our new striker scoring a hat-trick a la Roy of The Rovers !!
-
Actually it would be nice to be able to say, no idea whatsoever. If I knew what positon, its taking away half the reason for going.
Unfortunately its gets more easy season by the season to predict everything. So, I will say 6th, again!
Imagine if you had done this poll back in 1969-70 season.
-
Difficult to predict at any time, even more so when there has been no significant transfer activity. IF MON brings in players who significantly improve the quality of the team (and not just the squad), IF they settle into the club quickly and IF MON changes the style of play then maybe we will challenge for 4th spot. Remember, a lot of the top clubs had players playing at the world cup. Historically, those players are usually shagged out by March of the following season (a bit like ours every season). If, on the other hand, MON dithers in the transfer market and doesn't change the style of play, then i can see us being 15th by the end of October at which point MON will walk out to be replaced by Mark Hughes and we will finish the season 12th.
-

True I put 8th , but If we got rid of that Heskey and replaced with a 15 goal man even, I will change to 6th.. ;-D
-
For all those predicting 8th and lower, just out of interest did you think the same this time last year?
No I predicted 6th.
-
5th if we can sell Milner for a great price and pick up 2 or 3 position players before the deadline.
-
At the time of my own vote, four people think we'll finish on the top of the pile, yet 2nd and 3rd seem ridiculous and have no votes...
There's no need for sarcasm lads.
-
10th
-
12th
-
I can't imagine we'll finish outside the top six again. From the positions being quoted you'd think the likes of West Ham and the Noses had suddenly signed Messi and Kaka.
-
6th. Again. But I think if we can get Ireland, Keane and possibly Bentley or Flamini I do think we'd have another good crack at 4th again and have a decent chance of finishing 4th or 5th.
-
8th
-
With Milner gone and the probability of any signings being of past their peak looking for a few more big pay packets players, the mood on the Holte for the start of the season will be as bad or even worse than it was for the end of last season. That will probably result in a poor start. That will make MON adopt his bunker mentality resulting in a managerial crisis around Bonfire Night. If MON stays we may well claw our way to a top half finish. If he goes what happens to us depends on who replaces him and more importantly what financial support he gets.
I cannot put a number on it but my gut feeling is one of not looking forward to a season of anxiety and mid table mediocrity.
-
I actually went for us to finish fourth last season, nah only joking, had you fooled for a minute though!
I am quietly confidently that with the right influx of players, and improvement from some of the ones we have than we can at least stay at the same level. Something tells me that Martin has gone from dreaming of the Champions League to dreaming of setting a new record for the number of back to back six place finish's. Four in a row, now that would be something!

Looking at their schedule I was rather hoping for a perfect August/September!
-
I put 6th and I think it will be some achievement if we do...cant get excited about the upcoming season for the life of me.
-
18th
-
If we sell Milner somewhere between 5th and 8th. If he stays somewhere between 5th and 8th. We'll be in the Liverpool, spuds and everton block. Still think we're better than eveton whatever happens so 7th at worst.
-
18th
Happy clapper
