Title: Ashes 2010/11
Post by: VillaZogmariner on July 15, 2010, 12:54:41 AM
Just got myself a 5 day pass for the test at Brisbane, and also for the first 4 days of the Adelaide and Sydney test matches.

That is all.

Oh, and here is an example of how watching sport in the UK is a rip off.

My ticket for the third day of the Ashes test at Edgbaston last year cost me £75 ($130AUD)

My 5 day pass at Brisbane has cost me $114 (£66)

Surely I'm going to get to a days play without getting my money back because of the weather! It's only taken 10 years!

My plan is for us to win the 1st test and then organise a whip-round on here to fund your tickets for each day of the remainder of the series in the hpe that your track record is repeated!

I've already got tickets for the other tests (well Adelaide and Sydney - Melbourne and Perth go on priority sale tomorrow). But by all means send me cash!

I've had to join the "Australian Cricket Family" in order to get tickets before they go on General Sale - I feel dirty!

Dirty? You should be ashamed. It's akin to having Small Heathen tendencies!

In my defence it's only so I could get my hands on tickets before they go on General Sale, and it didn't cost me anything to join!

My mate went 4 years ago.  He had a spare ticket for the 3rd day at Sydney.  He tried to offload it at face value to a guy who was looking for a ticket.  Turned out the guy was a copper.

He spent the better part of the afternoon in the cop shop and then got a caution.  Unbelievable really, all he wanted to do was sell it to someone who wanted to see the cricket, he weren't trying to make a profit.

Think I can only pick one test and given I am leaving it late for tickets will probably have to be an all in deal including tickets.

Anybody got any advice out of picking Brisbane, Adelaide or perth?

At the moment I'm assuming Brisbane has probably got most going for it.

Brisbane, because the Arsenal game is that weekend, and we're going to organise a bit of a H&V get together to watch it!

As we're getting closer to the big event of the Summer (over here it's Summer at least!) I thought I'd bump this thread back up.

Also, my tickets for the Melbourne Test arrived this morning - just waiting for Adelaide and Sydney tickets to arrive. T-Minus 5 weeks!

Thoroughly looking forward to the sleepless nights tucked up on the settee in my sleeping bag, the missus thinks I'm a nutter but I can't sleep for more than an hour or so without waking up wondering how many wickets we have lost since the last time I checked, much easier to doze downstairs with the telly on so I can open one eye now and again!

I know what you mean Dave. I used to be the same.

So what's everyones predictions?

Mine are -

Brisbane - England
Adelaide - Draw
Perth - Australia
Melbourne - Australia
Sydney - England

So 2-2 and we retain the Ashes.

Although, with my luck when it comes to cricket it will probably be -

Brisbane - Rained Off
Adelaide - Rained Off
Perth - Australia win
Melbourne - Rained Off
Sydney - Rained Off

Brisbane - High scoring draw.
Adelaide - England win by an innings
Perth - Australian revenge to give them hope.
Melbourne - Draw, England saving it with a record eighth wicket stand.
Sydney - England win, the beleaguered Pietersen scoring a glorious double-century.

Myself and Warren Aspinall (who is my son) both work nights. When we are off shift we are going to carry on sleeping in the day and watching the Tests at night. Plenty of beer in plus the wife is going to cook us some Curries.Happy days. 2-1 to England + 2 draws. Broad to be 1st player deducted his match fee for throwing a stump at Pontin.
