Have we lost interest or after the old "palletgate" episode on VT have Nike and Villa got really good at hiding it
-
"palletgate"?
-
there was a photo of the first nike villa kit taken on a pallett in a warehouse and leaked that was put on villatalk...
there was some heated "discussion" about whether it was real or not, and was then labelled "pallettgate" after the picture was proven to be accurate and some had to eat some humble pie...
-
Oh Ok.
The kit will be plain, boring and look very much like the last couple.
£55 please.
-
I'll put money on it being claret bodied, with blue sleeves.
If it's actually reasonably different to last years, I'll buy it, but I opted out of last seasons, because it was near identical to the year before.

Same as me, and no doubt a few others.

I'm usually the same but for some strange reason bought the kits the last two years.
I doubt I'll buy a shirt this season unless the kit is one I really like.
From what I understand the kit will be fairly identical to the one posted in the New Kit thread with the checks on the side but with FXPro Trade Forex like a pro stuff on the front.

It's a bastard when Villa play in a Villa kit, we should be going for the Inter Milan look next season.

Good idea again, Chris.

I opted out of last years because it was so similar to the year before. If its similar this season I will opt out again
-
I usually buy an away shirt as it is somewhat different to the home which as most say is very difficult to come up with something original without spoiling the look or the history of it.
Sorry i thought everyone knew the term palletgate
Nearly every shirt gets leaked somewhere - since that first Acorns shirt we have never had a sniff - there have been some very good mock ups done but as always someone will always take offence
Most want to keep with tradition and there really is not a lot you can do to improve on what we already have
-
08/09's shirt was leaked early. I've still got the leaked pictures somewhere.
Last years managed to not leak though. We had the whole Bullring to Bullring thing.
-
I saw last seasons kits about a week before it came out, but not a peep this season.

It's a classic commercial dilemma for the club. The fans demand a traditional kit, but when they stay traditional the kits are obviously going to be similar year-on-year, meaning many fans - like yourself - won't buy them.
I would imagine - but have no evidence to back this up - that they probably sell more shirts when they go non-traditional and vary the design quite a lot, but the result is a lot of disgruntled traditionalists.
-
I will definitely purchase a Nike tracksuit top if they follow the style of the world cup tops......!
-
Personally I'd love to see a return to the 1994/95 kit. Wide claret & thin blue stripes! The away kit that season was brilliant!!
Some, of course - think otherwise.
-
Whatever the design, some will like, some wont.
If you like buy, if not dont.
Personally, i prefer a traditional shirt of claret body/light blue sleeves.
It doesnt mean id buy it, as i like getting the retro shirts.

Wasn't keen on the white socks.
Loved the home and away kits that year.

Totally agree with Paul. That is one of my personal favourites too.
I'll probably buy this season's no matter what it looks like - purely because I'm collecting all the Nike shirts. Might have to re-buy a few though as the Acorns lettering is coming off the latest.
I think the 08/09 Nike kit is the best so far.

You'll buy the shirt in 20 years then.

Ohhh, SNAP!

Well, why not? It will be the popular FA Cup winners shirt of 2011.

No, Aston Villa. Silly boy.

I thought last season 2nd strip (this years 3rd choice?) was awful and so boring
Which we could have a really dynamic away kit - something like the Portugal away strip in our colours would be good
-

I hope Nike pull their finger's out for the away strip. I've not been unimpressed once since they became our suppliers.
07/08 - white with blue stripes was nice.
08/09 - electric blue with black sleeves was extremely ... erm ... 'standout-able' (in a good way)
09/10 - white and greyish was simple, yet still different.
Like Smithy said though, people moan about the home shirt being 'boring', but it needs to be simple to keep the tradition! Let's just hope it's better than Man Utd's 10/11 home.

Have not seen it - although they have the obvious colours they do seem to play around with the design a lot and none of their "fans" complain about it
-
That's because 60% of their 'fans' re-produce the kits in far-away countries! ;-)
EDIT. I don't know how many of you have seen this in the past, but I find it quite interesting to see how they've changed over the years... Link. (http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Aston_Villa/Aston_Villa.htm)
Here's Man Utd 10/11. Ridiculously plain.

I hope Nike start to adopt our retro kits and re-release them in the club shop.
The current retro ones are a bit shite quality wise. Nike could do wonders with them and a few classic trackjackets.
Like what Adidas do with Liverpool and Chelsea and Umbro do with England, Citeh etc.

Pic above just reminded me of a funny yarn...
I was in Sth Africa over Christmas and went on a Safari at Kruger between Christmas and new yrs. we had a great time and i wanted to give our guide a good prezzie rather than just cash, so gave him my villa top, (the one shown in the post above). Anyway the fella was really made up and thanked me profusely for it which made me very proud and glad i'd managed to spread the villa word. Imagine my discomfort, when around 10 mins later, your man comes back to me and says: Hey man, you know, my team, I really, really like Liver-pool... gutted. couldn't ask for it back and knew he'd probably still wear it (more for the nike badge probably, but there you go..) I'm hoping maybe one of the younger kids ended up with it and someone will be glad of it and it brings them bit of luck in a few games!!
as an edit to this - we just watched that episode of Gavin and Stacey (way behind UK telly in australia) where nessa wakes up next to smithy.. thought it would be one of smithy's west ham shirts , but clocked it was that top and sai to my mrs: looks more like a villa shirt that - then she gets up and its the full-on xxxl 08/09 Villa shirt '' acorns' and all..!
-
Haha, yup! Ness is a Villa fan.
Good story that though, shame about the ending! Definately one of my favourite new-shirts. Infact, I barely wore it last season because I was too proud to take it off the hanger! Does that make me sad?
-
Best of recent years is the one we wore when we beat Blues 5-1. Nike have been great i must admit although i think Umbro always made our best kits, particularly 80-81, 90-92 and 92-93.
-
I hope the new home top has a collar....not that im going to wear a tie with it or do my best Fonz impersonation....just gives the other half something more to iron on a Sunday ;-)
-
Best home kit easily the 77-81 version and my favourite away was probably the candy striped le coq one in '83, despite the claret running in the bloody wash
-

haha
I HATE when the shirt has a color. Am I playing golf? Polo? why the collar? Is that comfortable?
I just hope we dont get something with stripes, makes my face look ugly...
-
No collar please.
A design that is a bit different wouldn't hurt for a year.
-

Totally agree about 1977-81 version. I remember having the away kit with the diamonds on the arms - now that was a shirt!
With regards to the le coq 1983 away, I bought one in the city for about a fiver as it was being replaced but then proceeded to use it for "odd jobs about the house" so it's probably still up the loft covered in paint

[Gok Wan/]They'd just better not put hoops in it. Can you imagine how fat our fans would look.[/]

I loved both of those shirts - in fact i think it is the only season i bought both home and away
we had a team to match it as well
-
i didn't like the fact that we sometimes had john fashanu wearing it!
couldn't quite believe my eyes when i would see fash wearing a green / red / black stripey shirt and it was us - aston villa...! bizarre
-

Ahhhh yes Guy Whittingham, from what I remember we were shite until Brian Little took over soon after??
In fact after checking we finished 18th with that kit!!!

Nice.
-
Bloody hell, the first two wouldn't look out of place in Carson Yeung's wardrobe. Nasty clobber.
-
I can't believe the second one.
-
I hope ours will have a collar...
-
I can't believe the second one.
yeah , the pattern carries on , onto his skin...
-
I have some pyjama's that look like the second one.
-
The 2nd one.... a sepia tapestry effect? Certainly different is the best I can say about it.
-
I wanna play as them on FIFA 11 just so I can use that away kit.

You wamt to spend £180 for the sake of 'evening it up'?
You're a mad man!

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but on Aston Villa Direct there's some training where that I've not seen before. It looks very, VERY retro.
Take a look for yourselves... Blue jacket, pre-match top, and purple travel polo. (http://www.astonvilladirect.com/stores/astonvilla/products/product_browse.aspx?cid=10582)
-
That jacket is awesome.

Quite like the jacket. No kung-fu star.
-
never mind the new kit. I just ordered last years home shirt from club shop. since I had last used it I moved address so I changed it straight away. But when the order confirmation came I realised it still had the old one. (I had failed to enter something and in sending me back to the form it must have re-entered my old address). I emailed customer services straight away (5 minutes after placing the order) explaining what happened and giving them new address. After a miserable exchange of e-mails they told me that the package is ready for collection and it isn't their liability. Last time I will use the online club shop. Grrrr
-
Jacket and polo shirt are very nice. Colour scheme of the polo isn't very Villa though.
Hopefully there's a few different colour schemes for both the jacket and polo.
-
That jacket is awesome.
Class. All the teams with Nike kits had very similar tracksuit tops, very retro. I never get kits but I may be purchasing one of those.
-
Arsenal new kit.
No doubt ours will be similar as it's not much different to the kit just gone, that's what Nike go for.
-
Arshavin really does look like he's about 11.
-
Arsenal kits nice. Very traditional too.
I'd imagine that'd be our route, considering the track top designs and Nike's general themes this season.
-
if ours is like that, then i will be happy...

Although the jacket and warm up shirt are superb, i just think that they are part of the retro make with a modern twist from Nike. Just based on the old badge...anything for match daysa would have the new badge on i would have thought ?
-

I'd prefer claret and blue myself.

Judging by the Arsenal stuff we might be seeing a bit more when the full range is in.
I hope so.

While this topic here has anyone got the 80/81 away shirt from the club shop?
Whats the fit like? I'd like a nice slim fitting one if possible.

I have.
It's nice and loose.
Good for gentleman of increasingly advancing years and pounds who would feel daft in the current replica shirt.
The material's a bit shit, mind.
-
Hmm... I'll have to nip down to Villa Village to try it on then.
Cheers, Paulie.

They've got the purple top in the club shop window in town. The lion is far far too big on it tbh. Other than that, not bad.

Why is Adebayor modelling the Arsenal kit?

I think the player modeling the kit is Alex Song VSM ?

The jacket is great apart from AVFC on the back. Without it I'd have had one.

its missing the claret and blue umbor diamonds from the shoulders.

that was a kit and half remember getting the full away kit (with long sleeves) for my 10th birthday
have a look in the weir and the wonderful book, theres a pic of Ricky Villa wearing that away shirt for a testomonial and instead of the umbro diamonds on the sleeve it had claret and blue stripes like adidas

Any idea when we get to see the new home and away kits? We always seem last to release them.
-
17th July Home kit, mid-August away kit.
Feel free to correct my dates if I have them wrong, I can't be bothered to look them up.

I think MON looks after the kit launches ...and does so in a similar way to his transfer policy. Expect the new kit to be revealed to the team at midnight before the opening day of the season.
-
Wasted opportunity to get some seemingly much needed revenue into the club.
Can only assume that the FXpro deal slowed things down.
Next season should be different.
-
Fulham changed their sponsor (to FXPro) as well as their manufacturer (to Kappa) abd still launched their kit about three weeks ago. Villa are consistently late in releasing kits. It's always been the case.
-
Its just a bleeding kit. Whats the rush? As long as the players have it to start the season does it matter?

Cashflow is King in football these days ( and any other business).

Grown men wearing a football shirt should be turned away at the airport and asked to change into some adult clothes. IMO!
-
What's wrong with showing the support of your club?
-
What's wrong with showing the support of your club?
Nothing, but grown men in football shirts in airport departure lounges showing their love is - in my opinion - a bit sad.
Have you ever flown out of Alicante airport, which serves Benidorm?
Fat blokes (and women) in football shirts everywhere you look.
-
Hmmm, true.
I often only where my Villa shirt for playing football, going to matches, or if I've ran out of other suitable clothing.
However, I want the new purple-polo!
-
I flew to Vegas in my Villa shirt. I was proud to do so

In my opinion, it isn't.
But hey ho, we're all entitled to one.
The only thing that stops me wearing it to fly is that half way through the flight, having sweated profusely in it, i'd smell a bit fresh.
-
When's it officially unveiled, the 15th?
If so I imagine it'll leak by Monday or Tuesday...

Aston Villa will unveil our new home and away kits for the 2010-2011 season at an open-air event on Centenary Square at The ICC Birmingham on Thursday, July 15, with several first team players appearing to showcase the kit on the catwalk.
Children from Aston Villa's charity partner, Acorns, will also appear on-stage with the Villa players and one lucky child will press the plunger to reveal a giant replica shirt on the outside of The ICC building.
The event, which will kick off at lunchtime [exact time to be confirmed], will also feature a five-a-side football tournament with local school children and a gig by Villa-supporting local band Mexicolas.
Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov said: "We would love for our fans to support this event as we are all looking forward to an exciting season ahead. The new shirt looks great, too!"
FxPro is Aston Villa's principal club partner having recently agreed a deal which will see the foreign exchange broker's logo appear on the club's shirt for the next three seasons.
FxPro Director Denis Sukhotin commented: "The Aston Villa shirt unveiling will introduce fans to FxPro and kick off a relationship which is very exciting for both parties. Aston Villa is one of the great names in English football and we are proud to be a part of the club's future as they work hard to build on their success."

Whatever happened to the days when you first saw the new shirt in the back of the Mail being worn by a couple of players.
-
Anyone seen the sponsor on the WBA shirt?
It looks fucking hilarious! (http://www.footballshirtculture.com/10/11-kits/west-brom-albion-2010-2011-umbro-home-kit.html)
It's a shame aswell, because it's actually quite a nice kit.
-
Whatever happened to the days when you first saw the new shirt in the back of the Mail being worn by a couple of players.
Yep, no fanfare, no build up, just a picture of Peter Withe, hands on hips, smiling from underneath his skintight Le-Coq-Sportif shirt.
everything is commoditised nowadays.
Or I'm just getting old

Whatever happened to the days when you first saw the new shirt in the back of the Mail being worn by a couple of players.

Anyone seen the sponsor on the WBA shirt?
It looks fucking hilarious! (http://www.footballshirtculture.com/10/11-kits/west-brom-albion-2010-2011-umbro-home-kit.html)
It's a shame aswell, because it's actually quite a nice kit.
Albion always stuggle, bless them.

Seriously now
I remember when Albion were sponsored by Swan
Any West Brom player who scored a goal in under 90 seconds from kick off would win a Swan kettle?!?!? ( because Swan kettles only took 90 seconds to boil).
What a marketing team at the Hawthorns.
And they were sponsored by BSR for a time as well. Our mom used to work for BSR, making injection-moulded, smoked-glass, plastic record player lids. I'm told that, at the time, nearly half of the world's record player lids were made at the BSR
as you were........

I also remember the days when there wasn't speculation and you didn't know who we'd signed until you saw them on the back of the mail or the sports Argos
