This is the new North Stand Villa are committed to if Englands WC bid is successful:

There must be some proper plans knocking around somewhere...
-
Russon wont like it, they filled in the corners !
just do the same at the other end, and we will look like everybody else
-
Oh ffs don't fill the corners.
-
Is this real or a mock up like all the others ive seen
-
All the stadiums on the link are what the clubs have legally committed to should the 2018 bid be successful. All the stadiums have to be ready in time for the 2017 Confederations Cup.
-
Oh ffs don't fill the corners.
While I appreciate the sentiment how else are we going to increase the capacity by any significant amount?

Looks very nice.
Anfield looks exactly the same lollollol. As for the 'new' Anfield? Yeah, sure....
-
I like it.

This is a mix of the original Trinity plans and some horrendously amateur Photoshopping. The News of the World link will be much closer to the real plans.
-
i think it looks good, filling in the corners will hopefully improve the atmosphere as it stops the noise escapng so much. the only thing that concerns me is could the filling in of the corners affect the state of the pitch?
-
Looks pretty good to me as well
What's the chances of extending the Witton up and over the road (as done with the TR) ?

I would have thought that would take it a bit too close to the houses in Holte Road for it to get permission.
-
I was hoping for a grass bank at the back.

You must be as old as me! ;-)
-
Love it!
-
Seems like progress to me. How many of the top teams in Europe don't have the corners filled in?
-
We know it's not going to happen now thanks to the Daily Mail.
-
Eh?

my thoughts exactly

Its something I can't understand. I know there's the old line of these stories selling papers but surely they do much more harm than good however you look at it. I'd love to have a word with the editor and ask what he really wanted to gain because if it was to ruin Englands chances of getting the World Cup they've certainly gone some way to doing that.
-
Eh?
mail has published quotes attributed to a member of the bid team slagging off competitors. Lord Triesman has resigned beacuse of it. On BBC Website.
-
Ta.
Triesman sounds like a silly old sod. Oh well. Quite fancy a holiday in Russia anyway. So long as Australia doesn't get it, I'll be happy. Can't be arsed to get up at 4 o clock every morning.
-
It will definitely be in Europe.
-
I am suprised nobody has pointed out that the Doug Ellis stand is no longer.
-
Looks great, not unlike the mock ups that have been knocking around for a while.
-
I like it too, looks quite imposing, similar to Newcastle.
Don't see what the problem is, the Holte will remain a separate stand so we'd still have some individuality.
Let's hope they make a better attempt of the front this time.
-
Nice mock up. Would like a stand with a bit of character.
-
Is this real or a mock up like all the others ive seen
Well it's a mock-up so far as it's a projected view of the stadium in eight years.
It's not real in the sense that it doesn't yet exist.
;-)
-
It's a pretty poor photoshop effort based on the previous plans drawn up under HDE.
RL has said as this point he's not even sure if the old stand will be demolished as part of the renovations. But either way, if he was going ahead I'd wager his plans would probably be different now to something first drawn up in 2000.
-
It would be great to see it happen, only thing is the issue with the groundsman, but im sure they will be able to come up with some arrangement :)
-
It's a pretty poor photoshop effort based on the previous plans drawn up under HDE.
You must be good at Photoshop mate, if you think that's poor. (I use it professionally and I reckon it's a top-notch job). Or did you mean it's a poor guess at what it might actually look like?
-
Remind me not to send any graphic design work your way. ;)
For a start: the corners are ugly, particularly the Witton/ North stand section. The rest of the roof from about two thirds of the way down on the new structure looks like it's been added on as an afterthought.
The style of the roof looks like it is based on the designs commisioned by Herbert in 2000. Everything the General has said on the subject indicates we will not be following those plans.
-
Don't like the idea of the North stand being bigger than the holte, and I also prefer the block layout we have now, as opposed to the circle shit.
How would we fill 50,000 anyway? :(
-
At the start of the Prem we were barely averaging 25,000. A few years prior to that, even less.
I guess it ultimately depends whether you live in a bubble or not and think only now matters, that there is no possible chance for growth/ progression despite a fair degree of recent evidence to the contrary.
I'll nick this from another site (http://www.villatalk.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=61776&start=0) as it's also worth bearing in mind:
Incidentally, selling it out for only five games a year and averaging 38,000 for the rest would mean an extra 60,000 sold seats with an average spend (including programme, beer and burger for some etc) of around £40. That would bring in £2.4m. Add that to the increase in hospitality and even without regularly filling the stand you're looking at £4m a year in extra income.
You don't have to sell out every week for additional capacity to become viable.
-
The outside is more important to me than the inside in some respects. Increasing the capacity without filling in the corners will be very hard to do. That is unless you build a monster free standing stand at the end which will dwarf the other three and look ridiculous.
I hope that the outside pays homage to our history and brings back some of the tradition we value so greatly. The Holte mosaic should be some guide to the future exterior of the North.

Do this.
We must have a monster stand behind the goal. It's a Villa tradition.

The big sign facing onto the pitch has gone but there is a smaller one on the side facing the Holte still.

I agree about the outside being important - too many grounds these days are identikit. However, I don't want anther pastiche stand like the Holte - reminds me of when I heard a Fulham fan saying that it was designed by Leitch!
I'd much prefer something really modern and striking which becomes an architectural landmark, particularly from the the M6 and Expressway. Something a la Selfridges or the New New Street design.
-
I also use Photoshop professionally and that is a good job.
In any case, its probably not Photoshop at all but 3D modelling software.

It's been gone for ages.
-
When they put the signage up the Trinity all the references to Doug disappeared on the outside.
-
There needs to be more claret seats. Looks like Man City play there. It would also be nice to have steps going up to the upper levels like the Holte. Also a mosaic of some of our great former players adorning the exterior.
-
Maybe they dont want to put the mosaics up til next year, after Downing is heralded player of the season
-
I agree with more claret coloured seats around the ground and I would welcome the addition of a 'glass' wall to lock in the noise made by the Holte End as currently the accoustics aren't good.
We will have some stadium when the new North Stand is erected.

Claret seats won't show up as much when empty as blue either.

Villa Park ain't half bas it is but I agree, a new North Stand would make some improvement.
I would like to see it names after a club luminary. We're not all that attached to the name 'North Stand' are we? The club should have a poll as to what fans would like to name the new stand.
-
Yes, what better time to revisit the name of the stand?
Ron Saunders Stand anyone ?
-

And me!
And me, 56 now first match was at home against Huddersfeild 1968 with The Doc in charge, i bet Andy Lochhead, Chico or Pat McMahon must be up there with us? how about a thread on oldest and 1st match?
-
The David Cameron Stand.

I suggested this to the General ages ago and got short shrift.
-
The David Cameron Stand.
We'd never fill it with our own supporters and would have to ask another club for help.

It would be the bigger cousin of the Fulham neutral section.

It'd collapse after a year.

As a general rule of thumb, those type of tributes don't come about when the bloke is still alive.
If we're going the name route Rinder would have to be the obvious one. A nod to the past and appreciation of his determination to keep us at the forefront of the game.
I'm sure Ron will get similar when the time comes, which is hopefully a long, long way off. There is a stand on the Witton Lane crying out for a decent name, for one.
-

To be fair you can only see the bottom tear which is always blue setas. I imagine the top tear would be claret.
-
Im a traditonalist, move back to Perry Barr where we won the double. No good ever came of tearing up our roots with the move to these aston lower grounds in the first place.
"Come on you Perry Barr pets!"
-

I have always thought that the Barton-Saunders Stand would be a great name
-
The David Cameron Stand.
Light the firecrackers!
How about the King William Stand and rename us Royal Aston Villa ?

Oh yes !
And it can be done whilst still alive - The Bell End at Citeh for starters.
If we're adding some soul to a stand that is currently lacking that in abundance, it deserveth a good name !
-

This is a joke, right?
-
How about naming it the Viagra stand - and open it up when the stiffs play at home ?
-
Naming stands after past players/managers is a bit too lower league for me. Lets stick with the North Stand, or even the Witton End.

yep,id go with that .
were a traditional club ,so give it a traditional name .

You can see the 2nd tier also and it's blue. It's not a big deal anyway. If we could start from scratch, I like the idea of claret seats everywhere with thinner blue striped sections all around the stadium.

I like the blue seats....I don't lnow why. In fact, (I've only been 4 times) I have never sat in a claret seat yet!
-
Heskey Stand?

Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

You want to try them, they're a different texture.

I like it.
We (Stoke) most fans want our corners filled in. (mainly due to it's the coldest ground in the effing world. BUT I like the fact yours hasn't, you truly have a fantastic historic ground and you don't want to loose that. That pic looks awesome though.

Ta!
I like your ground, not it's location though.
Yes it's cold when the wind blows but it has something about it that very few 'new' grounds have. I can't quite put my finger on it, and I might be waffling now, but I like it.

Thanks back,
The Brit was encompassed by the will to prove the pundits wrong. Losing that already though!!!!!
I still liked the Vic standing on The Boothen more though, Ahhh them were the days!!!!!

Bump.
Was on a ground tour today. They had started taking seats out of the lower North where it curves round to meet the Witton. They had also completely removed the TV screen, leaving only the framework.
Apparently they are going to remove the framework too, and the executive box below it, and replace it all with a 'glass walkway'. The guide said that was all he'd heard and that he didn't know exactly what it was going to look like, although it should be finished for the start of the new season.

I dont think England is an issue for them. It's maximum sales whatever the angle for the internationally owned papers. For an example the pressure heaped on Rooney is ridiculous. Any normal player would fold, lots do anyway when approaching the tournament but he's under super pressure. If Rooney loses it they will be glad.

Yes, but what's that going to do to the capacity?
Bing Bong! Peter W to the General's thread!
-
How was the tour?

Top prediction there mate.
-
This thread, though less than two years old, was nonetheless created amidst a completely different atmosphere for the club. We were pissed off not to qualify for the CL and fully expected our side to regularly challenge for the top honours and that we'd soon have Mourinho as our manager and a 50,000 seater Villa Park.
If we'd been told back then that within two years we'd be back to the days of considering 32,000 quite a decent crowd and would be led by Alex McLeish......
-
Does that mean more seats? Cos at the moment we ain't gonna fill em.
-
Which is why they've shelved the plan. Do keep up.
-
Not really worth resurrecting an 18 month old thread? Will reopen if clamoured for.
