I may have forgotten a few but what was your favourite away win at Tottenham and why?
-
All of them ! but liked the league cup one. Last years was quite good as well.
-
Forgot that we won there last year.
-
The 4-3 in 1994. My favourite Villa team (essentially the 92-93 side even though it was on the slide by then) featuring in a goalsfest against the much hyped Klinsmann-inspired Spurs . Deano's winner was fantastic. A much needed win having lost BFR and chucked away a two goal lead in the match before.
-
The 89-90. I thought we'd be champions after that performance.
-
You havent mentioned the the 1-0 FA Cup win in 1992 - that was a classic Villa performance. We played them off the park with only one goal to show for it. We murdered them.
-
4 - 3 in 1994 also for me. Hard times, Spurs away end being re-done if memory serves me right, so not as many Villa fans as normal. The only time me and my Dad have ever gone to an away game together (my dad's not really a football fan but he went anyway), 3 - 0 up and in heaven, 3 - 3 and back to normal and then the winner - unbelievable!!!
I still get goose bumps thinking about it!!!!

Its on the recent Match of the 90s Villa dvd. Its still in my top 10 games ever.
-
1990, as it was the first time I'd ever seen the Villa go top of the league.
-

A great night. I was right behind the goal when Yorkie prodded it home.
Mind you, even if it was an option I'd still have voted for the 2-0 in 1990.
-
2 down, Lineacre had a penner to make it three, Spink saved, we pulled one back just before half time then went mental second half. Five different scorers. Great day, that.
-
League cup 94. It was my 16th birthday and the away support was amazing that night, i think we had about 6-7000 there. And i saw Earl Barratt score!
-
The day of our goal of the season competition.
Although my favourite memory at Spuds is half time during the 4-4. Singing "Happy Birthday" to them - forget the result for a minute, that was fucking brilliant!
-

That's my favourite as well. Went with a mix of Villa and Spurs fans and were going to meet up at a pub in the West End afterwards. Funnily enough half the Spurs fans didn't turn up, but some brve ones did, much to our enjoyment.
-
Without doubt one of the finest away performances by a Villa side in my time was the 4-1 win in August 1978.
Portrayed as lambs to the slaughter as Ardiles and Villa made their debuts, 50,000 in White Hart Lane, tickertape everywhere and we played them off the park. Brian Little was unplayable that night.
The team was:-
Rimmer, Gidman, Swain, Evans, McNaught, Mortimer, Shelton, Little, Carrodus, Cowans, Gregory
Scorers: Evens, Gregory, Little, Shelton.
Shame there is no footage. Six of the championship side already in place.
-
We beat them in the Championship winning season with two Sid Cowans penalties didn't we? In a windy White Hart lane where one side was being rebuilt.
-
1990, as it was the first time I'd ever seen the Villa go top of the league.
We'll be top by 9 o'clock!
Hand it over, hand it over, hand it over Arsenal...

We won the home game (3-0 i think), lost the away game (0-2)

Is correct.
We won there 2-1 the previous season where Sid got a pen and Geddis got the other.
-
The 3rd round FA Cup replay in 1992 -Yorke scored the goal in a 1-0 win - I thought our chance had gone after the first game.
-
2-0 down, 4-2 up. We're gonna win the FA Cup...
-
89-90 What a night.
Shame it all went tits up on the following Saturday.
-
Not quite a win, but the 5-5 in 1966, when we came back from 5-1 down and almost won, was one of the great come-backs. I wasn't there, nor at the famous 4-1 in 1978, which must be our best win at Spurs in recent times, but I did see the 2-1 in 1979, just as the immortal team was beginning to take shape, and the memorable 4-2 in 2000, when every goal was better than the last, culminating in a Wright rocket.

Who played left-back in that team? Was Swain being used as a winger still?

Smith. Swain didn't join us till December that year.

There must be footage around as I've seen the ticker-tape welcome loads of times.
Brilliant game, especially as I felt with the atmosphere inside the ground before kick off, we were only there to make up the numbers. The day was supposed to be all about Spurs. Magical days.
-
August 1978 and that fantastic 4-1 win with the argentinians making their debuts. The game was on the wednesday night.
Me and 3 mates drove down in a little mini 850,frankly we were lucky to make it away without getting beaten up.After the game we drove just out of london and slept rough on the service area.Next morning was back into London and off to the Oval,England v New Zealand test match. Then over to Reading and pitched our tents to party all weekend at the Reading Rock festival. With a quick break from the festival on the saturday to go and see villa then lose 1-0 at bristol city.
Happy days,we packed loads in as you can see,if I tried that now it would probably kill me.

Thirded. That was my favourite visit ever to WHL, if only because, as ever, Spurs had a cracking looking team on paper and you just couldn't see us getting back from two down in a month of Sundays...

I was there as well Nick and loved every minute if it !!

Swain at Left Back ?

Swain at Left Back ?
Gordon Smith was left back.

Cheers Dave - good old Smudgger (RIP) very underrated player when he was with us
I thought 1978 for Ken Swain - speaking of underrated full backs .....................
-
without the 4-1 Wednesday evening match. All the fanfare for the two Argentinians - Villa played them off the pitch.
Remember a game just before Christmas in the late 70's as well when we featured on Match of the Day we were so much in charge complaints were sent to the BBC whose highlights tried to make out that there were two teams out there.
-

Nothing has happened in the intervening years to make me change my mind. Although last season's win was crucial.
-
The 2-0 win which took us top of the league was a brilliant night. David Platt was so brilliant that night, I had the same feeling I had when we beat Liverpool in January 1981.
On the flip side, went there a good few years back in the Spuds end with my little lad and a Spud mate. Marcus Allback put us 1 up with about 15 minutes left and we fecking lost 2-1 (also remember the 2-3 on Tommy Craigs debut when 2 up with 15 left at VP). Going out the ground a fecking steward grabbed my then young lad and said "up the spurs or something shite like that". Told him to feck off as he is a Villa fan and he said poor fecker lol

I agree it was a great day and remember coming from two down to win 2-5 but I have absolutely no recollection of Lineker missing a penalty. The midweek game in 1990 was special too and I was convinced we would go on to win the league. But the FA cup replay when Yorke scored the winner was a great night. I went into work the next day and a lad I worked with had been watching it in his local and told me he did a double take when he could see me clearly 'giving it the big un' on the final whistle. I had recorded the game so went home that night to watch it and for about thirty seconds of Dave Bassett's post match opinions the camera was on me acting like a mad man.
-
For me, as a 12 year old at the time, the 4-3 in Jim Barron's?(correct me if I'm wrong) caretaker match. I had Fenton printed on my red, green and black Muller away shirt the next day!

I think you are correct. As for that shirt, I won a pool competition in that shirt and didn't even know the next day when I woke up
-
Just watching the 91-92 video and the 5-2 game was fantastic. Especially Spinksy saving a penalty from that smug jug-eared Leicester goalhanger.
Can we have Tony Daley back please? What would he be worth in today's market? Someone would spunk £60m on him after watching a highlights DVD.
-
78 for me to, first time to white hart lane pure magic all the argie hype and we fucked em off
Just memorable days
-
(not great quality) a Central News report with added Villa support and Sir Graham :)
UTV
The Doc
-
I remember us winning 1-0 at WHL around about 1966, not fully confident on the date. Lew Chatterley got the goal. You would need to have been alive back then to realise just what a result that was as we were so bad and they were so good.
-
I'd vote for the only one I went to, LC in 94. Got soaked but didn't care, great night out.
-
Dave S, that would have been one of Colin Withers's greatest games, keeping a clean sheet despite Villa being under terrible pressure for most of the match.
-
What a great thread, so many to choose from.
I was at the 2-0 table topping game, the league cup quarter final and the 4-3 Jim Barron game.
But my favourite I wasn't there for, the 4-2 win in 2000. 2-0 down, pull a goal back from the spot and break out into a goal of the season competition, with each goal outdoing the last.
-
Dave S, that would have been one of Colin Withers's greatest games, keeping a clean sheet despite Villa being under terrible pressure for most of the match.
Indeed it was. Didn't Lew Chatterley break his nose scoring the winner too? What a complete surprise that win was.
-
Withers and Slogger were my first heroes.

Hand it over, hand it over, hand it over Arsenal...
I think I was at this one, not much memory of it mind i wasnt even a teenager back then.
was it a midweek game
-
Adrena, they were mine too!!

Fourthed.
If only because I only made my mind up to go down at 9 o'clock on the Saturday morning.
Imagine doing that now?
The top of the league game under SGT and the LC quarter final were also top nights out.
