Death Of Villa Stalwart
Gerald Harris, Villa's programme concessionaire for nearly four decades, has died at the age of 72.
Gerald, who lived at Sutton Coldfield, was a lifelong Villa supporter who had been responsible for distribution of the News & Record since 1968.
Always a popular figure around Villa Park, he was described by the club's operations director Steve Stride as "one of the nicest, most polite and most humble men I have met."
He leaves a wife, Dorothy, sons Dominic and Anthony, and daughters Teresa and Monica.
The funeral takes place at the Abbey Church, Sutton Road, Erdington, on Thursday 10th August at 1.45pm.
Nice guy . knew him personally. RIP Gerald

gutted for him that he may not now see us become great again.

I've just heard this news and I am blinking back tears as I sit at my desk.
I worked for Gerald last season and found him to be a true gentleman, well respected by all that knew him.
RIP Gerald.

Its always a shame when a good bloke passes on. I wish I had met him.

A small part of us old villa fans lives but a big part in the early years.
We used to have some great programmes and he was synonimous (!) with them over the years and way back in the 70s when pele visited etc.
Though I never met him i will say a small prayer tonight for hid family.

A name linked with the first Villa revolution. Whilst we never met his was a name I always associated with Villa during through relegation/third division and upwards simply because it was always on the programme. Sad but fitting that so many eras are drawing to a close together.

I thought the same thing, but he would have loved what is going on at VP now. May he rest in peace.

Hi,
I stumbled across this, I am Geralds Son, and am truly touched by the comments you have made, I can assure you it means a lot.
Like my Dad I am a pathological Villa Fan, and am really excited by the start we have made, I am sure he is looking down with a smile on his face.
Thanks again guys, you have made my night.

Condolences to you and your family Ant. Always sad, when a part of the VP fixtures and fittings is no longer there. Never had the pleasure of meeting your Dad, but I'm sure that he will still be rooting for the boys from wherever he is now.
RIP Gerald.
