How many games is that now when the opposition has had somebody sent off?  Is it three or four?

Are Grealish McGinn being targeted or are they just very (very) good at drawing fouls?

Well the Brighton player was yellowed for preventing a quick freekick which is instant yellow now and then going through the back of Grealish so I don't think he "drew" the foul but on his form Saturday, it was the only way he was being stopped.

They use rotation fouling on Jack.
He is very good at bypassing them with change of pace and or direction.

The ref had a decent game really . Nice to see him book Mooy for stopping the freekick being taken when most refs we have had this season wouldnt have bothered and he thought the Conor goal was fine .

Jack was class on Saturday and Heatons save at 1 0 helped us stay in the game.   ELG had one of his mare games so wouldnt be suprised to see him dropped for Luis and play to CM against City unless DS brings Trez in and keeps the same formation .

Once man city get their match over with tonight could we go about starting the pre match thread for the 1230pm Saturday.
It's a big test match against the champions of the last 2 season and good thermometer to both were the villa are and also , importantly , if lesson have been learned from playing likes of Spurs anf Arsenal away.
Hopefully show the courage and not naivety but a decency in block and organisational defending. Couple this with the attacking gusto and some goal intent but not ridiculously so open that they have freedom of stadium formerly known as wastelands !!

We know Dean and he has an idea in always wanting team to attack but being left open or getting stuck in our own half with no where to go , no matter how good opposition, is something i don't want to be seeing again !
Has to look at ways to counter threat Man City and be in game 90 minutes not one of these holding on to a 1-0 lead then being dominated and losing 4-1

Be interesting to see what happens and what's been learned both by Dean Smith and the players.

I'd take 0-0!

I thought the ref was poor. He allowed the familiar three strikes against Grealish -cleverly delivered by three different opponents but couldn't wait to show a card to Conor who hadn't even committed a foul.

Arguably, he should also have sent off the full-back who kicked Jack to the ground in the second half, Jack springing back up to supply a pass that McGinn skied wildly. The foul was clearly a foul with the ball nowhere near, so he should have gone, playing-on or not.

At least we can't blame him for the crap VAR decisions -step forward Martin Atkinson. Those who were at the Bournemouth game may not have been surprised...
