Gareth Barry was certainly flustered
Cause his shorts were filled full of custard
Though he played like McGrath
And was partial to the bar
At Villa, he was absolute mustard.

His first England call up was in 2000 when John Gregory was manager, he had a run of games for England early on then nothing for years. I don't think Sven liked him (as a player) and never called him up.

His England regular days were definetely under O'Neill though maybe thats what he meant.

Great Villa player. Unfortunately for him, a lot of his Villa career was playing for awful sides under the likes of GT2 and O'Leary. In fairness to MON , I think it was him anyway who moved Barry into the centre of the park. He was superb for a while in a three man midfield, night against Ajax at Villa Park probably his best game for us.

It was GT in his second spell that played him centrally. The game when we beat Chelsea 3-1 after going behind early (Crespo???) saw him play brilliantly against Lampard and co.

Yeah credit to O’Neil got him a bumper contract shortly after joining and he repaid in kind. Had a very good first touch, good spatial awareness very good passer.

Think he was still a CB in a back three back in 2000 wasn't he?  To be totally honest, he didn't really tear up any trees under GT and O'Leary and it was only when O'Neill arrived and he moved to a more central position that he kicked on again.

A fabulous pro and a great servant for our club. Deservedly went on to win a premiership title to add to a brilliant career

Only sullied his career by moving to the bitters - but one day I may forgive him  ;)

Did they ask why he didn't take the penalty?
