Yes the opposition are down to ten men!
« on: September 22, 2019, 06:33:34 PM »
1 nil up, Arsenal down to 10 in first half- lose.

0-0 v West Ham with 25 minutes left, stays 0-0.

WBA. Brunt off and we have whole of extra time to score a goal. Can't and luckily we take better penalties so it's all forgotten.

Forest 5-5. Were 5-4 up I think when Forest had guy sent off, couldn't hold onto the lead.

Play off final- Fulham down to ten men for last 25 minutes, can't score and nearly go out of business as a result.

Home to Boro 17/18- Adama sent off after three minutes, finishes 0-0.

11/12, last home game of McLeish. 1 up v Spurs and Danny Rose sent off for lunge. We spent rest of match camped near our own box and are clinging onto 1-1.

Man. United, home in Feb 2010. Nani sent off after 20 minutes, remains 1-1 and they looked more likely to win that game.

Sure there's a few other examples I can't recall at this point in last decade when we've had decent chunk of game v top 10 and haven't won.

Worst thing for me is we have players with pace and skill which is what you need to keep ball v 10 men but seems we go to pot constantly under so many different managers when the game is there to be won.

I thought Monday night in last 20 v West Ham was schoolboy stuff of just charging into the middle of pitch at every opportunity but this today might've been even worse particularly as the manager had options to change it and get us over the line.

It has to be a training exercise at Bodymoor now surely.

Can't we just ask referees not to send off opposition players?

I can feel my asshole twitch any time I see our opponents have gone down to 10 men. It almost always inevitably means we become more defensive, have less of the fucking ball and just lose a grip on the game. It's a pain.

On the flipside, we go down to 10 and we're often hopeless.

Yep see what happened v Palace. Ten minute spell after Trez red card, Palace must've had 8 or 9 corners and eventually the goal occurred.

Still got away with the late goal but they ramped things up straight after red card. We certainly look clueless with what to do when it happens. I know we won away at Rotherham with ten but they are a mid table league 1 side at the minute.

For it to happen in 5-6 games in last three seasons and we don't win any is just really poor.

Our forward players have been the guilty parties. How many times have El Ghazi, Trezeguet, Jota fired limply at the opposition keeper?

Think there are primarily two difference types of game that you reference there that illustrate two different key areas that we need to improve on even discounting sending offs::

West Ham/West Brom/Boro/Fulham - our inability to create good chances against teams that defence well (and generally with a deep block)

Man U/Spurs/Arsenal - our lack of composure and poor ball retention that allow us to relive pressure (and then counter well against teams that will still be strong with 10 men)

You should count in Palace. We go to 10 and lose the match.

Is Ipswich away last season another one?

Well remembered! That was a bad one as Ipswich were complete rubbish last season so not beating them with 10 took some effort.

As a Brucie bonus you can get a seat with a button on Saturday that will allow you to make a sub past the 70th minute when we're clinging to a 1-0 lead and half our players are dead....

It’s interesting (ironic?) that it’s when we went down to ten men ourselves against Rotherham that Dean made the change both early and in system that lead to us taking the game to them and a massively improved performance in the second half.

That, admittedly, ignores the recent Palace game - but that was a complete shit show from start to finish no matter how many players we had.

Rotherham are mid table in league 1 now so think it was more the vast gulf in quality for that one.

How can it be a "CLUB THING"  when it has happened across different teams, managers and players?

Maybe if you are Burnley you should start with 10 on Saturday  :o

We beat the Albion in the 1st leg, but we were already winning by that point.

That's what gets to me when supporters can see the team flagging after half time but he waits until they score before making changes.
