Compare this to the years of dirge under Lambert and Bruce.  Such a relief.

On a night where Norwich are going out to Crawley, quite.

Palace out to Colchester as well. Looked like most of their first team played as well.

Crewe, Norwich, Colchester. What's the connection ?

We finally have a properly run club where we play a certain way and even though we made 10 changes all the players know what is expected and how Dean wants us to play. Having players desperate to get in the first team creates competition and hopefully gone are the days when players don't give a shit about playing in the Carabao Cup.

Some of the football was superb and yes it was only Crewe but lets remember Luton, Burton and the like over the last few years.

Loving it.

We have a squad.
Finally a squad of players who are capable of stepping up and being professional and able.

I’m calling it now. I am going to fall in love with marvelous.
He was superb and I am completely convinced he had a 100% pass completion rate...I didn’t see he give the ball away once.

Well done lads.
Loved the marvellous backheeled nutmeg

Granted it's against very poor opposition but Konsa and Hause both seemed very comfortable with the ball at their feet. Really helped us play out from the back with ease. Davis movement and hold up play was excellent too.

Not so convinced by our midfield without the ball including our two wide men. Crewe played through us very easily at times and against better opposition that would be punished. Pity about Targetts injury, hopefully not serious .

Yes may be poor opposition but  we have messed up against very poor lower  tier teams regularly is the past seasons so well done Villa boys. A thoroughly professional performance.

Tip of the hat to Lansbury for a superb assist for Jacks goal.

Think he got three assists? Jack, AEG and bit of a scramble off a Hourihane delivery for the first.

Knackered after watching that, but it was thoroughly professional, and we scored some good goals. Work now..

That's got to be on Saturday's Soccer AM, surely? That's if it's still on, and anyone still watches. 😂

Looked good going forward. Sometimes I wish Davies didn't over try.  He was chasing down balls which in reality he had no chance whatsoever of getting.  He would be better slowing down and waiting for the right opportunity.

Defence and in particular Hause had their moments.  Not overly impressed.  Steer had a good game but you have to wonder if Crewe had a striker of even championship quality what would have happened.

All in all a decent date night now its onwards and upwards.

Comfortably dispatching lower league opposition in a cup game? Well planned squad rotation? A consistent way of playing regardless of who is in the starting XI? Six goals?

What is this witchcraft?!

Dean Smith’s Villa. Times they are a’changing.
