I thought his player ratings were a tad harsh but I agree with him that by their standards Everton were poor and yet still dominated and missed some sitters. Doesn't matter as a one off game we won but 35% possession, 3 shots on target (1 after 80 odd mins) and 0 corners at home isn't always going to end as well tonight did.

Loving our 6/7/10. Looking like they could quickly become a pretty destructive combination in the middle.

Just got back home. About to watch the highlights with a drink. Just wanted to say, a deserved win against a decent side. A massive well done to each every single player, manager, and staff member. Also, what a fan base we have. The atmosphere was superb!

I'm going to enjoy this weekend 👌

Central 7: did all that was asked of him.

Freddie 8: took a few minutes to get going and booked early. After that, fantastic.

Taylor 7: one shite cross, otherwise very solid.

The Merciless 7: playing through the pain barrier but still imperious at times. Was excellent the way he calmly walked the ball out of the penalty area after they hit the post, but if you're being critical he shouldn't have left Three-Oh Walcott alone in the penalty area.

Engels 9 MAN OF THE MATCH: how great is this bloke? Has to be in the Belgium squad now Kompany has retired. Feel free to let McGinn score on September 9th, though. Ta.

Luiz Women 7: less imposing than last week but still comfortable in possession and already seems to have a good understanding with the Super Brothers.

SJM 8: hard to get off the ball, used his arse to perfection, involved in one of our goals and didn't stop running all game. I could have just copied and pasted this from any SJM report, to be fair.

SJG 7: only showed glimpses of what we know he can offer going forward, but his serenity under pressure is vital when you're defending a lead. And he is murder to dispossess without fouling him.

Trezeguet 6: shows flashes of talent, but seems a bit easy to shrug of the ball at the minute. His career suggests that we will see plenty more from him, though, so not to worry.

Jota 8.5: best performance yet from The Pogonophile Puskas. He has every trick in the book and was excellent for the opening goal. Only tiring out and a substitution preventing him from challenging for MOTM.

Weselino 8.5: looked a completely different player after the goal. If he can keep that up then twenty odd million will seem like loose change.

El Ghazi N/A: worked hard and took goal well.

Elmo N/A: decent enough cameo.

However three matches and 1 goal shows that Scoring is not in Everton’s DNA so far this season. We have had 14 shots on target in our three matches they have had 6. Of course blocks by defenders don’t count for some reason, only if the GK saves it or it goes in the net, but I would state that this game was Everton’s standard.

Beautiful. Most nervous I've been since the playoff semi second leg at the Hawthorns, and before that probably '15  FA Cup final. Nights like tonight are what make it all worthwhile.

The bbc cant help having a poor stat dig
"The result lifts Dean Smith's side up to 11th in the table and gives Villa their first win in the top flight since February 2016"

Yes its hard to win in the top flight if you aren't in it.
I know the bbc do the same nonsense to all teams, but stats can mean everything and nothing. Sorry as a maths guy, this gets my goat.
I have a stat - we have lost less premier league matches than man city since 2016😊

We have won more Premier League games in the last one day than Birmingham City have in the last 3,051.

Fantastic result! I haven't stopped singing. I was travelling whilst the game was on and only heard the result after it had ended. If anyone has a link to Wesley's goal or the Villa fans rocking I would appreciate it. UTV!

Very pleased for Wesley.

Is Elmo for Trezeguet the first all-Egyptian substitution in British football? 🧐

Wow, that was such a great ball from Jota and a lovely run from Wesley. I'm glad that luck was on our side with some of the defensive clangers though. Two goals and a clean sheet against Everton is a lot more than I expected to be honest.
