I posted this on the Bournemouth post-match thread but its similar to others except for keeping Taylor in...

                    Heaton
Guilbert   Engels   Mings   Taylor
               Luiz      Conor
   Trez            SJM       Jack
                     Wes

Didn't have a clue he'd signed for Everton.

I'd go

              Heaton
Elmo  Engles  Mings  Targett
               Luiz
      McGinn  Hourahane
Trezeguet             Grealish
               Wesley
Yes this is also my preference.

DS does not have much history of changing the formation.
I would like to see Jack pushed further forward.

I don’t think Everton are as good as some on here and the pundits would like us to believe despite spending over £400m over the last few seasons. They look bang average to me having drawn against a poor Palace side and scraped a win against piss poor Watford. If we cut out the mistakes and take the game to them under the floodlights at Villa Park then we’ll come away with our first 3pts of the season.

3-1 Villa

My Everton mate's coming over from the IOM for it as well, and I too hope to see a 3-1 win, with goals from Wesley, Wesley and Wesley.
What a coincidence! We've both chosen the same score.

Weren’t we playing more of a 4141 formation in preseason? Especially against Bournemouth it seemed that Jack and SJM were too far away from Luiz...or was he sat too deep? Also Trez, AEG and Wes were too flat with little movement. Hopefully they will be working on the front 5 a lot more this week in training...there’s goals in this team but they aren’t all on the same wavelength at the moment. I’d be tempted to switch to 4231 with Conor playing alongside Luiz (we need Conor at set pieces), SJM linking with the two DMs, and Trez and Jack supporting Wes. I don’t think he’ll replace both FBs, but it’s time to bring in one of Targett or Guilbert.

                 Heaton.
Guilbert. Engels. Mings. Taylor.
         Conor.        Luiz.
    Trez.        SJM.       Jack.
                   Wes.

I'd be surprised if Guilbert started after not even making a squad yet.  I do like that midfield and forward set up though.

Yeah it’s an odd one...I’m starting to think something may have happened behind the scenes. I hope I’m wrong as he looked excellent in preseason, linked well with Jota, got up and down the pitch, and whipped in the kind of crosses that Wes should thrive off. I think Dean is introducing the new players slowly but surely and keeping it tight at the back rather than throwing them all in, so may be we won’t see them in action until the Crewe game.

Is there more to Guilbert not playing I find it puzzling that he was one of the better performers in pre season and yet did not make the squad.

Just read an article with Dean stating that Marvelous isn’t match fit yet but still no word on Fred:

In the first game I’m sure Dean commented that it was just case of numbers and mix of players on the bench as to why he missed out. So I imagine Saturday was no different. I fully expect a Freddie debut this Friday because we need to change something up and he showed in pre season just how effective he can be down the right.

This will be tough, hoping for a win but expect a 1-1 draw.
