Also I know itís pedantic but I donít like how smith talks about him being a big money signing. £22m isnít that much for a striker these days, so it sounds small time, and also itís surely not great for taking the pressure off him anyway.

We messed up badly.

Way I feel it went we identified Maupay as number one target once we knew Tammy would've be available. Wes was plan B option but we signed him first given he was generally easier to sign (bet Brugge couldn't believe we offered them 22m).

We then decided with him looking o.k in pre season and Maupay being priced at nearly 20m we didn't want to spend 40m on two strikers for whatever reason.

Maupay as the starter with his movement and finishing ability would've been a much better fit for us. He's settled in well at Brighton who play similar style. Then Wes could've learned the premier league with sub appearances and goals coming off the bench as plan B and he certainly wouldn't have got any stick off the crowd that way.

The area of the pitch where we made wrong decisions. Ultimately you don't get things right in that area and you run serious risk of relegation.

Can we loan him out to a Championship club in January so he can score some goals and gain a bit more confidence?

35 fouls now conceded by Wesley .
Most in the league by any player

Does he keep kicking Grealish or something?

Can't we just try supporting him? He's a long way from home and we don't play in a way that gets the best out of him. Obviously that's a problem, but it's not all on him.

He was playing in Belgiumbefore he came to us, so be is used to being away from home. We don't have luxury of waiting or adjesting the rest of the team for him in hope he may come good. As previouslymentioned, ther is nothing in his play that you can point at and say he is doing x or y.

How many players have we signed costing more than that?

Bit like the snake that tries to eat its own tail.  Wesley commits fouls on himself.  By that I mean his positioning and judgement of the movement of the ball oblige him to foul an opponent to win possession.

Wes did at least two blatant shoves and pushes .
One was on GK into the net and another was when he couldn't be bothered to jump and just shoved a player.
That illustrated how lazy he was as no attempt.
Generally found him trying , but lacking , yesterday sometimes some blatant disregard for team play and lack of competing.
Wes tries but not sure what else he can do apart from actually coaching.
Raw is the term for sure.

In fairness, he was aiming to kick the opposition but kept missing.

I'm beginning to wonder if someone is getting a backhander each time he plays ;)

I'd like to see Davis and Wesley on the pitch at the same time. With Grealish playing just behind them. Wesley might get a little more joy if the opposition centre backs have more than one physical battle to try and win.

e.g.          Davis. Wesley
     Grealish
         McGinn Hourihane Marvelous
     Targett   Konsa   Engels.    Guilbert
                       Heaton

It's really not that far removed from what we're trying already.

From the Graun's ten Premier League talking points today:

"1) Aston Villaís forward line needs improving in January
The difference between finishing 17th and 18th in the Premier League is often a striker who can score 10 goals a season. Aston Villaís line is being led by Wesley, a £22m summer signing from Club Brugge. Thus far he has scored four goals in 16 Premier League appearances, the last coming more than two months ago. There is no doubting the Brazilian is short of confidence, not troubling Kasper Schmeichel on Sunday, but his hold-up play and lack of physicality must be a concern for Dean Smith whose reserve, Jonathan Kodjia, was deemed not worthy of replacing Wesley in Villaís thrashing. Admittedly, Leicesterís defence is the best in the league but Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu barely broke sweat. January is fast approaching and Smith will have to do some business to avoid the drop. Do nothing and Villaís fate could be sealed quickly."

I donít think anyone in the Championship would take him.  They would have to be mad.

Small Heath it is then. What a motivator, look Wes, either start doing the business or itís the tramps on loan until May.
