I wonder if Smith is saying we don't need another striker just to give Wes a bit of a boost although let's face it, it's obvious we do.

Yep I’d say that much could be true. I wouldn’t think it’s also very wise to allow other teams know were a bit thin on the ground in that area and pretty desperate for other   options.

I'm not sure it's a huge state secret.

At the moment he's our Libor Kozak. Scuffled in a few close range goals but little all round ability if we're serious about being top half team in the long run.

A Benteke style forward in this team would really push us along so much. Hard to find one though. More chance of finding the one who barely scores at Palace than the gem we got from Belgium.

Ha ha maybe, but the big man got selected for Brazil so you never know, all the other clubs might think we only need a back up option!

I just hope regardless of whether people think he’s pants  or could be the best thing since sliced bread that they just get behind him, make him feel loved and wanted and it certainly won’t do him any harm. Confidence is a magical thing.

If he can't handle the pressure he shouldn't be playing here at this level. He's no precious snowflake who needs to be coddled by the supporters.

Snopes should have a page dedicated to the myth that footballers are genuinely influenced by, and aware of, what supporters write about them on the internet. Don't flatter yourself by thinking that your very own personal #thoughtsandprayers count.

Oh, yeah, and Benteke isn't coming back no matter how much anyone wanks over the thought of it.

Watching him I get the feeling that although he's a big unit he doesn't cope with the aggression that's handed out, he seems to wave his arms about a lot.

Maybe Wesley will come good in time, but looking at the PL Table now there is no time for sentiment. I'd rather see Davis in his position if he ever gets fit. At least Davis holds the ball up better and is far more skilful than Wesley. Smith does seem stubborn over this and it's glaringly obvious to everyone that he at least needs cover in that position. I would like to see a proven experienced loan player just to try and help us survive this season.

Awful.

Didn’t even look like he was trying today. Wins nothing in the air, jogs around contributing nothing, pushed off the ball like a one legged six year old, no desire or drive

He’s one of the worst strikers we’ve had in a long time.

I know they are different types of player but watching Jamie Vardy buzzing around energetically, always looking for space, then watching this useless lump loping around like he’s just necked a couple of pints of bong water was embarrassing.

Total lack of effort.  Rely on him for goals and we are down.

I see him on par with Jordan Bowery. Horrendously out of his depth.

I flatter myself to think that having watched football for nearly 40 years I can spot a dud when I see one.  And he is one.

We see it, the crowd see it, even the commentators see it.  So why doesn’t Dean?  I know we are short of strikers but I would literally play anyone up front in place of him now.

I'm clinging on to the fact that he has played well in the past and this loss of form is to do with a lack of confidence over a lack of ability. The worrying thing is that for a big lad, his hold up play can be so poor,  he doesn't give our midfield or wide players a chance to move up the pitch and also his lack of pace means we can't launch it in to the channels for him to run on to, to release pressure. I've just seen the Maupay goal for Brighton today, long ball over the top and he's quickly on to it, you could never see Wesley scoring a goal like that.
