I don't understand Rice's elevation to the England team.  He's okay but nothing more and is another one who does something good and then follows it with something bad. Henderson I don't get at all, for me he's bang average.  With Ross Barkley who hasn't showed anything of note in the team and against weak opposition. I'd say overall the midfield for England is a worry especially up against decent opposition.

I said exactly the same last night Bren'd...I don't get Barkley at all when Maddison, Mount and maybe in time our Jack could do a real job in that midfield. As for Rice all the Wet Sham season ticket holders in my village are saying what a really good player he is....after successfully breaking up play his passing was particulary poor in my opinion.

I think Jack has his work cut out to make the England team in the near future, when you consider Southgate went with Henderson and Barkley in the attacking midfield role for these games and would still probably call upon Mount, Maddison, Alli, Winks, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Foden before Jack, as things stand.

Agree with this, personally I think he's a long way off at the moment.

I thought Rice and Hendersonís positioning was very good for most of the game, but Rice in particular was careless when he had the ball and made far too many errors.

Also have Southgates midfield favourites of
Loftus -Cheek ,
Lingard ,
Delph.
Lallana
And world cup penalty hero Eric Dier

Plenty of competition.

I think Jack offers something that the rest donít.
Not sure if that is enough to get him in the team though.

Itís best for Villa if Jack is close to selection, continues to improve his game and yet just falls short of an England call up

Charlton v Small Heath this weekend. The two teams with the least shots on goal in the Championship this season.

How could I let last night's historic result pass without noting it on H&V? Fort William 1, Clachnacuddin 0.  A mere 74 games and 882 days since The Fort's last win in the Highland League.   As one of the many worldwide who keep abreast of their travails (and have actually been to a game at Claggan Park: they lost) it's worth noting that the club's Twitter announcement of the win has been liked almost 20,000 times!

Fort William is everything that is wrong with Central Belt, concrete and pebble-dash municipal architecture dumped in a stunning Highland setting.  Having said that, if you've just spent a week or so being exposed to Munro weather and midge bites, it represents urban sophistication and comfort in all its many manifestations.
