That pen should say "sport" not "sports". Grrrrrr. Pet hate of mine, along with this recent change to  two time instead of twice, or locker room instead of changing rooms. I could go on.

Have you also noticed how the picture of Wurzels Gate has a Wembley arch on it?

It's the roof of one of the stands.

Hardly an arch is it?

Surely it is "sports" as it hosts football and rugby?

I'm with you. American English is arcane. Is there more than one sport? Yes, so its plural and therefore sports is correct. World of Sport sounds like your typical UK English new-fangle bastardisation. Like saying Autumn instead of Fall.

It was only called "World" of Sport because the BBC held all the rights to anything you'd want to watch, whereas ITV's Saturday afternoons were padded out with cliff diving from Mexico or Canadian lumberjack championships.

You're right, there is. There are two. Association football is one, cricket is the other. FACT.

Fair enough.  You can't argue with facts.

As they only play one sport at a time in that stadium "sport" is correct.

Hats off to QPR for renaming Loftus Road the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium after a youth player who died recently. Lovely touch.
Yes that's good but it's still a shit stadium.

Sport is an umbrella term for all events of a sporting nature, there is no need to use "sports". Likewise if it had rained and snowed in the previous few days you wouldn't say "we had terrible weathers last week".

Slight tangent but remember the big World of Sports shop in Brum in the mid 80s?

I'll wait for Bad English to give us the definitive answer as to whether or not the plural of sport is the same as the singular. In the meantime, I'll carry on planning our Key Stage 1 sports day....

Pretty sure we used to have “sports day” at school not “sport day”.

Sports as the adjective, ie sports day, sports bar or sports presenter, sports equipment
