Franksy practically crying on air at Gayle getting sent off, ah bless.

If you were really a neutral broadcaster at this game you wouldn't show as much emotion as he is about that.

Who does that Twat actually support? Is it just ABV?

Such a strange game. The most ineffective I have seen many of best plAyers for some time. McGinn and Grealish really struggled. El ghazi looked our only threat. We looked leggy and devoid of ideas

To win was huge as they have to come out and play now

Smith’s ideas looked devoid today we must be able to adapt and have a plan B

Gayle getting sent off is huge

Today for 75 minutes reminded me of the play off final, just playing our own way without any desire to change and expecting the opposition to fall away.

Glad it worked out today but IF we get through hopefully this would be a bit of learning curve to DS in acting quicker in a final.

These next few games is probably going to define our next 5 years so we need everyone at top of their game.

He's a gigantic BELL, so it's not especially surprising. The Villa-hating tw*t.  ::)

Agree Paul e, that defensive mindset is difficult to change.
But they were tiring and the pressure was beginning to tell.
I doubt they will play much differently on Tuesday.

Guy I know from going to watch Walsall says in his youth he won a young commentator competition (Rob Hawthorne off Sky was other winner) so he went to Pebble Mill to commentate on a match and Franks was his mentor (must've been early 90s).

He said he was a SHA fan in those days although seems now he's ABV just for the sake of it and get more calls coming in.

I just wanted a win today. I thought it would be two close games so I didn't really expect anything better than a one goal lead going into the second leg. The fact we demoralised them to an extent by turning it around was a bonus.

Baggies played precious little football today, just defended in depth and tried to catch us on the break when either one of our moves broke down or by hoofing it long and chasing after it; and if we looked like doing something dangerous then a foul was their response.

Jack and Tammy getting clattered in the opening minutes showed their intentions and the foul count 3-14 and bookings 0-4, plus the red were a perfect summary of how the game went.

Although we struggled to break them down, we stayed patient and the subs came on to good effect.

The second leg should be interesting - they'll have to be positive which should give us more space around the box.

Just need everyone to be fit and ready and for Deano to have something up his sleeve tactically.

Wow! I will take that.

I said to my Mrs at 75 mins I would take a 1 0 defeat because I could see them spawning another from a set piece & I thought there is no way we can be as bad in the 2nd leg. The Gayle sending off is massive.

I did have a nice little bet on us to win at HT at 4/1. Happy Days!

Is it ridiculous to be just slightly miffed we didn’t add a 3rd at the end when they were a man down and going to shit? Probably.
Given that we stank Villa Park out for two-thirds of the game, I'd say it was a bit ridiculous yes. It would have been ace though.

Possession 69% to 31%
Shots 21 to 5
Shots on target 6 to 2

Yeah we really stank the place out......WTF....FFS!!!

Only a nose could be that anti-Villa all of the time though.

Where did he grow up - any ideas?

Nah losing today would've been a disaster, really wouldn't have seen us going through if that had happened. WBA sort of team who can score a couple with just 30-40% possession.

Going there with a lead AND their main source of goals not available to play is absolutely f***ing brilliant outcome considering how it was going.

I think that's a good example of stats not telling the full story.  From those you'd think we mullered them from the kick off, which we didn't.
