Well that was a huge 15 minutes.

Can't say I was that impressed with us second half. Was petering out to a 0-1 which would've been a bit of a disaster. Thought Dean was way too slow making the changes.

All changed on the Hourihane goal which was lovely strike.

Gayle being sent off was icing on the cake. He is a niggly bugger but thought he was superb leading the line for them, Rodriguez was hardly seen second half.

We'll score there. Tough ask for them to score two just to get extra time without Gayle imo. One foot in the final just like last year.

A few players under par and then to give them a goal, we made incredibly hard work of it. But, excellent substitution, great goals, great pressure and ultimately a great win. Now they've lost Gayle for the second leg too, how much a blow will that be to them.

Well done Villa!

'Ave that you negative stripey tossers!

They'll have to cross the halfway in the second leg now, so in theory it should free us up to play some better football.

Is it ridiculous to be just slightly miffed we didn’t add a 3rd at the end when they were a man down and going to shit? Probably.

We’ll score at their place - they’ll have to come out and without Gayle they will struggle. Expect hoofball so I would have Jedi on the bench. Great result simply great.

Thought Taylor was good, defended well and got forward when he could.

Adomah hardly did anything, can see Green starting on Tuesday.

Such a strange game. The most ineffective I have seen many of best plAyers for some time. McGinn and Grealish really struggled. El ghazi looked our only threat. We looked leggy and devoid of ideas

To win was huge as they have to come out and play now

Smith’s ideas looked devoid today we must be able to adapt and have a plan B

Gayle getting sent off is huge

Given that we stank Villa Park out for two-thirds of the game, I'd say it was a bit ridiculous yes. It would have been ace though.

Franksy practically crying on air at Gayle getting sent off, ah bless.

If you were really a neutral broadcaster at this game you wouldn't show as much emotion as he is about that.

Grealish was the difference.  Never stopped, never gives up.  Kept dragging the side forward exactly as a captain should.

They played 5-4-1 and when we got into their 3rd it became 9 men defending the box so it was hard work to pick holes. The problem with defending like that is that you give people time to shoot from 20-25 yards and once we had Hourihane on that was suicide. They were then still trying to work out whether to carry on or press higher when we got around the outside and won the pen.  From there we could've easily had another because we were creating loads of half chances in the last 15-20 mins.
