Of the serious contenders, Albrighton and Delph.
Possibly Cahill.

None of them. They're either getting too old or wont be good enough for Villa in the future (I hope).

I kind of agree, but it’s hard to think having Milner around the club would be a bad thing.

One of the most difficult things I'll ever have to type, but here goes...

He's been replaced.

LFS... I am looking at two claret and blue cycling tops which may get lost in the post...

Which ex Aston Villa players would you have back?

If we...... no, when we go up which ex Aston Villa players would you have back?

I want us to bring back players who should never have left..... Daniel Sturridge (he is on a free) Gary Cahill (he is on a free) Marc Albrighton (£5m?) and Barry Bannan (£6m?) Enda Stevens (£4m?)

Sturridge would have to be on some kind of pay as you play deal due to his appalling injury record.

Bannan and Stevens are Championship level players and at best squad players/injury cover at Premier League level. I certainly wouldn't be spending ten million on the pair of them.

Cahill is 33 but I wouldn't mind signing him up for a year or two.

Albrighton would be an excellent signing.

Delph disqualifies himself for the way he treated the club and fans with his going/not going/gone routine.

Milner. Maybe Albrighton, as we are weak on the wing. Ashley Young possibly too. Benteke only if he's cheap.

None. You should never go backwards

What, never? Liverpool shouldn't have brought Rush back, then? How about Man U with Hughes or Ajax with Cruyff? Staunton and Cowans both had impressive second spells at Villa, too. As did Milner.

I'd take a chance on Benteke if we got promoted and you could get him for ten million. I'd take Milner, for a third time, on a free if we could and wouldn't mind Johnstone back. Although the Baggies fans don't seem too keen, so not sure.

I've no wish to see any Gardners in claret and blue again.

Can't make my mind up whether I could accept Delph.

Oh, and yes to Albrighton.

No to Sturridge. We have a bad enough injury record as it is.

Thing about CB is a lot of people assume he’d thrive back here because he’s really loved by the fans... but I’ve been to a few palace games and they love him there too, which makes me think it’s not a confidence thing and he’s just past his peak.

I honest to God wouldn't want a single one of them back if we got promoted. Why on earth would we look backwards if we get promoted ?

The only ex player i'd think about would be Milner but not really sure what the point would be now we've got the new Milner already in McGinn

Good grief, set your expectations a tad higher if we go up please  ;D

The only issues with your post is that new players need time to adjust just look at Fulham who spent £100m in the summer on 12 players and they will be back in the championship with a bigger wage bill

Getting in players who know the club and converting some of the loans to permanent signing must be a better option

Benteke is a strange one.  I really thought he would go on to be world class.

He went to the wrong team in Liverpool. He can be a great finisher and a good all round player, but Rodgers didn't play to his strengths and he hasn't recovered. I seem to remember that he was always streaky, even at his best.

Definitely Ross McCormack
We need to get rid of him first.
