Aston Villa vs Bristol City: Pre-match Thread
« on: April 11, 2019, 06:13:15 PM »
Huge game in our season; feels somewhat like a make-shift playoff quarter final.

Luckily - due to all of the recent results across the board - dropping points wouldn't be quite as disastrous as it seemed it might be a few weeks ago.

Hause seems 50/50, do we go with Mile and Tuanzebe at CB? Does Smith change the system to 2 up-front with Kodjia and Tammy?

I think we'll win.

With Mings out can see us conceding but I just have faith that we will score more. Abraham to make amends for his penalty miss- 4-2 to us.

Hope Hause is fit because I’d worry about Jedinak against a very mobile team.

Kodjia for El Ghazi and Albert to keep his place over Green.
The biggest conundrum is Whelan or Hourihane. I’d go for Whelan now he’s had a rest.

The rest pick themselves.

Home win (but a draw wouldn’t be the end of he world).

I'd quite like to see:

              Steer

Elmo Axel Jedi Taylor

            Whelan

SJM      Jack     Hourihane

         Tammy Kodj

Subs - goalie any fit defender Henri Uncle Green El G Kienan

2 1 to us

Hause sounds likely to play.
Aston Villa 3-1 Bristol City. I've voted a Villa win 7 times in a row - this is number 8!

Smith said, probably a little tongue in cheek, that Kodjia's performance on Wednesday might make him have to rethink his formation. But I don't think he'll do it.

Wednesday, his hands were tied if he wanted something out of the game, the midfield only had to play with that intensity for 45 minutes, not 90, and probably most telling was the fullbacks playing up to Smith's ideals, but again they only had to do it for one half.

These are a different proposition to Rotherham, I'll be surprised if we don't revert back. Maybe Kodjia getting a nod, and Hause coming back in would be more than helpful.

Steer

Elmo
Tuanzebe
Hause
Taylor

Whelan

McGinn
Grealish

Adomah
Abraham
Kodjia

3-1 us, could be anyone, Weimann for them.

I think you should both change your predictions. Law of probability says so.

If we can't win 'em all, as the table stands then a draw wouldn't be such a bad result.
Villa 2 (Godfrey, Greenhalgh) Bristol City 2 (Galley, Garland)

I'd consider replacing Tammy with Kodjia:
Steer
Elmo  Hause   Axel   Taylor
Adomah   Whelan   Grealish   McGinn   El Ghazi
Kodjia

Keep the same system, that's essential.

I wouldn’t mind a change of system especially as our correct formation relies on Green and/or El Ghazi who are both hot and cold. With Kodjia in form I wouldn’t be averse to him and Tammy as a proper front 2.

We have been on the wobble in recent games, and still managed to get results. At some point, we will get back on track again, I have no doubt about that. If it happens on Saturday, so much the better.

Either way, I predict a win.
