Barrie Hole

Oscar Arce:
Sad to hear of the passing of Barrie Hole, one of my first Villa heroes, at the age of 76.
He was a skilful half back, as they were called then, but the apocryphal tale of the half back line of Brown, Arce and Hole was not true, as they never actually played together.
Famous for falling out with Tommy Doc, along with the Thursday drinking club of Edwards and Godfrey, he got back into the team briefly before moving back to Swansea, where he played, retired and later ran a family newsagents until he sold it on in 2004.
He was of course a Welsh International, playing 30 times for his national team.
RIP Barrie.

Bernie:
RIP Barrie Hole, one of my early favourite Villa players. I seem to remember him scoring a rare headed goal in one of the first few matches I went to, at home to Carlisle, in a 1-0 win?

wittonwarrior:
Never got to see him play just before my time, but have heard of all the fables including the rose and crown and missing shots.  He seemed my kind of  man.

RIP Barrie
