Sheffield Wednesday v Aston Villa: Pre-Match Thread
« on: April 02, 2019, 12:33:38 PM »
Another huge game and the chance to make it 6 out of 6.

I feel confident that the issue Bruce faced in matching pass and move sides while our manager will feature again Saturday.

They're undefeated under him, but have managed only draws against anybody top half, with dour 11 behind the ball stuff against Sheffield United.

First goal key, as he has them organised.

I'd go with;

Steer

Taylor
Mings
Hause
Elmo

Whelan

McGinn
Grealish

Adomah
Tammy
El Gahzi

We'll we have far too much for them, with our midfield 3 in particular being significantly better than what they have. They have bumped along and got outplayed by Stoke. I am hoping for the same here.

1-3 Villa.

The first team seems to be picking itself at the moment, and I can't see any changes until we pick up an injury.  Nice to know that we have a few options on the bench as well though.

Need to get at them from the off, and get the first goal.  They're still close enough to the play offs to feel like they're in with a shot, so if they come at us, I'm sure we'll pass them to death and beat them easily.

If we play like we did first half against Blackburn, they won't be able to live with us.  Away win.

I fully expect Dean Smith's Villa to do to Steve Bruce's Wednesday exactly what Dean Smith's Brentford did to Steve Bruce's Villa.

Funny how these situations arise isn't it... Bruce could still play a part in our success / failure of getting the fuck out of this shit division.

I wonder if Bruce is preparing to deal with the threat Hutton poses.

Yep something like that. Bruce will be Bruce and we will press his side back until they break.

I would bring Conor in for this because on the break he can get into goalscoring positions. Nothing against Whelan who has been excellent recently and the old man needs a breather. Also tempted to get AT back in also. We have to use our squad and they looked a little gassed in the second half versus Blackburn.

Massive game.  Win and we knock another rival out of the running imo.  The recent run has been amazing with 4 play off rivals beaten (small heath were at the time, stop sniggering at the back!).

If we play like we can, there is no way they can live with us. 2-0 Villa. McGinn and El Ghazi.

I heard he is watching Lewis Grabban videos. He knows that his team have to watch that lad. He is a bit useful and tasty.

“It’s going to tough. Scott Hogan is quick and they will hit long balls to him down the flanks. We’ll have to be at our best to beat them.”

One of Grealish's early league appearances for us was as a sub against potato-head's Hull. They picked up four(?) bookings in the brief time he was on for whacking him up in the air. I doubt these will now employ any other tactic to try to negate him.

2-1 win for us. Wednesday have shown some solid form under Bruce but as a team I think they are quite limited regarding ability.

And can we please put in a display that'll finally rid everyone of any lingering opinion they might still hold that we were wrong to let Bannan go!
