I'm impressed you weren't cold, it was a bitter wind. I had two punctures and a fall! I did look out for you for that pint!

Who did I see in the Velo about 80 miles in? Asked about the top and said the Brother (in law?) got it them.  Liked the colour scheme but I think I would have needed a full zip one.

Could've been my brother, I got him one. If he ever answers my text, I'll ask him.

Yep, you met my brother. He said a couple of people had asked him about it, and he'd got a fair few "Up The Villa"s along the way.

He rides in a little group with my other brother and a few mates over Sutton side on Sundays. He was concerned that they ride a little faster than he does (he was optimistic he could average 11mph, but was expecting the others to be more around 13), so he'd swapped to an earlier start with one of them. About 45 minutes, but enough, he hoped, so that he wouldn't have to really overdo it to stay with them once he got caught.

But the shirt must have inspired him. 7hours 18, close to 15mph. 34mph through the start gate, top speed of 42.5, and they never caught him. It was close, about quarter of a mile at the end, but he won!

I'm quite proud of the old git. And to the rest of you yesterday, I tip my cap. Fantastic effort.

Sounds like it was him then. I know a couple of others said they were going on it as well.

Tell him congrats. The closed roads and great weather helped as it was not too hot or windy. And not having to stop and start all the time saves energy and conserves speed. Taking the food stops out of the equation I did an 18.5mph speed but the stops, including for the unfortunate soul near Atherstone, added 45 mins on.

True story... when I lived in Cumbria, I went into a pub and someone had on the previous season's Villa top. When I went to the bar, I was stood next to him so I said how rare it was to see a Villa top up there. To which he said, 'I'm a Burnley fan but it was in a sale and it's the same colours.'

So this is why I wanted the Villa cycling top... me plus two little Villans at the end of my charity ride. I set off the day after my dad joined the Holte Enders in the sky and missed the final for this. Monday was torture until about mile 50 when I found out the result.
