I'm fine with Whelan if it gives license for the full backs to push further forward.  Our wide players can be much more effective when a player is offering the overlap.

....even if the overlapping player is Neil bloody Taylor again

Not ideal no. But it means someone has to track him as well, dragging one of their players out of position, then yes it's effective.

So long as he’s just a decoy and we don’t actually give him the ball !

I think Meh is the default setting now, maybe until the start of next season anyway

Mrs SE this morning: I don't know why you go all the way to Birmingham to see the home games. They always lose and you come back miserable.
Me: I need to see Glen Whelan.

I'm sure a good therapist could help you with that.

You're all going to hate me for this, but after seeing that starting 11 I've stuck a score on the farmers at 13/2.

Just how bad must Whelan be to be left out by Smith? He was worse than ever at Wigan and should never have been selected again. Smith has really started to worry me with his decisions. I see Green is missing,no doubt we will read later he was injured in training

On paper there are a many players there that shouldn't be. Hutton, Taylor, Chester, Whelan, Hourihane.

But that's the state of things laid bare for all to see.

No idea why O'Hare, Bree, Green or Hause can't feature though

That creeping, terrible feeling of dread has just inched closer. It's still a long way off, but It's there alright.

Looks like McGinn is going to be busy..... again! I said when Lambert took over the Ipswich job - We'll lose this, and I stand by my claim.

Whelan (& Hourihane) should be nowhere near that teamsheet on recent showings - 30K+ fans can't all be wrong surely?!
And Green had better be injured or Deano is going to lose a lot of support with that lineup. :(
