What kit is this ?
« on: January 25, 2019, 07:01:56 PM »
Does anyone know the story about this kit ?
It came up in conversation today, with Samir, who is organising the Henson 87 Kit purchases

Clearly the base kit is the 82/ Euopean Cup winning kit. That’s the easy bit. The badge , however, is on the left of the chest as opposed to the middle ( as in the home version of the Super Cup/ World Club final)

Then there’s the fact that Mita didn’t sponsor us until two seasons after the 82 winning kit ( Davenports were our first sponsor in 83)

The shorts are also those that went with the home shirt of the kits that replaced this one.

So why was Sid wearing that one, when there was a new one available ?

It seems to have some commemoration writing under the badge. Was there a one off game ?

Could it be from the centenary tournament? That's not even a guess, I'm just trying to think of something when we had Mita that could've involved a one off kit.

That should always be our away kit.

That seems to be the 1984-1985 away top with the 1984-1985 home shorts. I think that season we had claret shorts and blue socks at home and white shirts and socks away with blue or white shorts depending on the opposition colours.

It’s the Turin Shorts- the face of our Lord. Repent all ye sinners.

It's the 1982-83 away shirt because I can't think of any combination of words that would be the size of what's underneath the badge except Champions of Europe, and the Mita logo makes it after January 1984. It's definitely the 1983-84 home shorts. Sid was injured throughout that season. Which makes the entire thing a mystery.

And so we come to what me and the world's saddest man greatest anorak on matters Villa (my mate Greg) reckon:

It's not from a match. It's likely a promo photo featuring the logo of our new sponsor, a player who just happened to be around and training on his own and a few random bits of kit that Doug kept at the back of a cupboard "because they might come in handy one day".
