Bears/Pears/Domestic Cricket Thread 2019
« on: January 22, 2019, 11:22:23 AM »
Time to start this one then!

The home red ball game against Essex in July has to be played away from Edgbaston, it's being played at New Road.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/46959139

I thought they might use Portland Road or Stratford so this is an interesting devlopment. It starts on Saturday 13th July so I might have an overnight in Worcester and catch two days play.

Quote
Warwickshire have investigated the possibility of using an out ground within the county, but with Edgbaston hosting the second semi-final on Thursday 11 July and the reserve day scheduled for Friday 12 July – the Edgbaston staff will be required to be on-site throughout this period and are therefore not available to assist in the running of a first-class match at an out ground in Warwickshire.

Seems a bit stupid that we have to lose a home game. Why have the league schedules a game at Edgbaston when it's an international game, the thick twats? And could we not just swap home games with Essex? We are playing in Chelmsford in September.

Easy tiger!  You are our guests.  I am looking forward to the season.  Worcester will be competitive and three going up.

One of those promoted teams won't be Gloucestershire but at least we can showcase some talent for Warwickshire to nick.

I think it’s a great appointment. Has experience of the domestic game from his time with Kent and Yorkshire and won an international trophy with Sri Lanka. A strong pedigree which should help him support Troughton.

Seems a strange time for Farbrace to quit England, with Bayliss leaving after the Ashes.

Maybe he's been told he won't get or doesn't want the England job

I read something along the lines that he’d been told on the QT that he wasn’t in the running for the top job. He dressed it up as a “With Trevor Bayliss moving on it’s time for a fresh approach to red ball cricket”.

And only a few months before the World Cup as well.

Ashton Agar joining the Bears for the T20 Blast.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/47417253

with Elliott retiring and CDG not returning I imagine there’s a chance that we might sign another overseas player for the Blast.

Good signing that is.  Patel and Agar is a great spin attack that will slow teams down in the middle of an innings.  Now, could Fairbrace have a word with Chris Gayle before he comes home?
