I think we’ll only sign him if we get another defensive injury.

It's much the same as Pires - a short-term move to get us out of a short-term problem.

Hopefully with a bit more success than that particular example.
I'm sure Collins can get up the pitch for a corner in less than ten minutes.

Mirror reporting that James Collins tore up his £50k contract literally an hour after signing it! This was due to picking up another injury (calf) when he went out to train. He's gone up massively in my estimation - by refusing to be paid whilst injured. This action could yet see DS offering him another deal when he regains fitness. Are you watching Micah Richards??

If we have given him a contract worth £50k a week if he plays or not, then we really haven’t learned a lot.

Two hundred grand a month for a 35-year-old who was released by his previous club? I can't see it myself.

Indeed, what a mental thing to do given our circumstances

Maybe it was 50k for a couple of months? It just say "50k contract" in the original post.

Yes, I'd say that was probably for 5 weeks. So £10k a week.

It doesn't seem to bother Micah Richards conscience by picking up a rumoured £60k per week for doing nothing! I can't believe that the club can't cancel his contract after being out injured for getting on for 2 years! You may as well stick all that money in a pit and burn it! A disgrace.

If that is true then that is excellent by Collins.  With that said, now we are this close to the transfer window I'd be looking elsewhere.

10k a week for 5 weeks, not 50k a week. Even that soft ****** Lerner wouldn't have paid that.

This is Aston Villa we are the most used club in the land. I thought Purslow said the days of handing big contracts to ageing players was finished! Obviously not!

I wouldn’t call £10k a week for 5 weeks a big contract.

Hold on. Does anyone truly believe we have a 35 year footballer who prior to training with us was probably on a PFA pension $50k a week to train with us? Come on everyone...

The clue is in bold - the contract is worth £50k, not £250k.

At least, it better be!!!
