I hope he had a last smile on his face when someone told him Dean Smith is manager .   Maybe it was too late. RIP again.

Weird how a new era at Villa dawns then this happens.  R.I.P Doug.

Over the years I have wondered what my reaction would be to this news.
I have also mellowed over the years, to the extent that I accept that we are all flawed and no one is perfect.
I will put aside some of my previous groans and accept that even if he was wrong he probably always thought he had the best interests of Aston Villa at heart.
He had a long Journey and it is always sad when some one dies, so sleep well Doug, if you go to the right place maybe you can get in the Heaven first Eleven and dazzle them with your Bicycle kick.
Condolences to the family.

Just after he seemingly put a moratorium on  scattering of ashes at VP he responded immediately and positively to a fax I sent to the club asking for permission to scatter my Dad's ashes in front of the Holte. Met me and the family on arrival and was brilliant. for that alone I thank hm. RIP.

Remember seeing him driving his Rolls out of the car park after the 3-0 West Ham win ( Milners last game ) reminded me of Mr Burns driving in The Simpsons.

Whatever you think of his spells in charge, he obviously loved the club. Still going up and down the country watching them into his nineties.

RIP Doug.
